Sugar # 3

Sugar is a sweet laid back 6 yo female lab that was surrendered to Brookline because her Mom was entering a Retirement Facility.

I have just posted Sugar.  She is a great dog who would be perfect in any home environment…with or without other dogs or cats…children of any age….single or married couple…really any home.  She is a sweet, affectionate, quiet lab who just needs a home that will take care of her the way she deserves to be taken care of.  She has been to two events and met lots of other volunteers who can also attest to her wonderful personality.  Her medical issues are completely under control at this point and she is almost done all her meds.  She is a great pill taker as all we do is put the pills in with her food and she eats them right up!

July 5 2011
Hey all you Sugar lovers out there.  I know I said I would probably be available for adoption by now but my FM wants to have me see a dermatologist (whatever that is) for my ears before she makes me available.  So since I’m not ready just yet, I wanted to let all my fans out there know how I’m doing.

Today is the 4th of July so I went to the Southampton 4th of July Parade today.  I was a big hit!  My FM put on my Adopt Me vest and lots of people came over to give me pets.  Smart FM took business cards with her and handed them out to the people that stopped to pet me.

I met this one little girl who really, really, really wants her aunt to adopt me but her grandmom isn’t too sure.  This little girl spent the entire parade hanging out with me and I thought that was great.  FM said she is so very proud of me and impressed with how amazing I was.  I let this little girl (6 or 7 yrs old) play with me.  I didn’t care about the fire engines or the loud bands or even the group of kids doing a karate demonstration.  I didn’t pull on the leash or drag my FM over to play with any of the other dogs there.  I didn’t even bark the whole time I was there, unlike those other noisy dogs!  FM and FD kept saying how none of their dogs would have been so calm, cool and collected!

I’m on different medicine for my itchy skin and ears and it has really helped my scratching!  The vet put me on prescription dog food to see if that will make a difference once I’m off my medications.  I sleep through the night on the bed with FM and FD.  I always signal when I need to go out.  I am a great pill taker.  FM just puts it in with my food and I gobble it up:-)

I do counter surf if I get the chance.  However, I prefer the paper trash to food!  I get along great with the other dogs here as well as the two cats.  Like I said before, I’m a little afraid of the cats so I don’t bother them at all.  I would be great in a home with or without other dogs or cats.  I am such a happy dog that I could be in a house with any age children or no children at all!  I’m doing really well on the leash so walking me isn’t a problem.  I still need to loose some weight but my FM said she isn’t worried about that at all she just wants my ears to get better:-)  My FM also wants everyone to know that I hardly ever bark!  She says that is amazing since I am in a house full of barkers.  The other dogs bark for no reason and get each other all wound up but not me!

That’s all for now.  Keep checking back because my FM said she will let me send out another update once I go to the dermatologist.  Happy 4th of July everyone!

Here's me (left) & Winston going for a walk with our sisters.. . . now we're taking them for a walk!

 June 28, 2011

Hey all you Sugar lovers out there!  It’s me, Sugar, again.  I just wanted to send everyone a quick update on me.  I am doing great in my foster home.  I love the other dogs.  I love chewing on the bones and other toys here as well.  My FM says the funniest thing about me is I am afraid of the cat:-)  You see, I wag my tail and walk over to the cat when I see her but when that freaky thing turns around and tries to rub against me, I run as fast as I can in the other direction!  Everyone here thinks its cute but I don’t get it myself.

I’ve become a very good girl about not bothering the other dogs while they are eating.  See I eat my food right away but my foster brothers take a little longer.  Before, I was trying to push them out of the way so I could eat their food too.  But now I just go and lay down in the family room and wait for them to finish.  Then I like to go in and clean up any crumbs off the floor.  My FM tells me I’m a great helper girl:-)

I’m almost all done my medicine and while I am still a little itchy, it is nowhere near what it was before, thank goodness!  My ears look a lot better and so do all my other problem areas!   My coat is also cmopletely different.  It is getting softer and smoother. My FM says that depending on what the vet says on Thursday, she is going to make me available then.

So get ready all you families out there looking for a sweet, lovable, fun, cuddly, entertaining and all around great girl labby!  I’m going to be a popular girl (aren’t all blonds) so I should be able to find my new furever home quickly:-)

Here are some new pictures of me so you can see how wonderful I look.  Enjoy
Love,

Sugar

Hello everyone in Brookline land.  It’s me, Sugar with a new and exciting update!  I have been in my foster home for one week now and things are going GREAT!  I went to the vet on Monday and it was like that scene from the Wizard of Oz when everyone is at the beauty salon in the Emerald City.  I got a full work up and lots of medicine to come home with that is making me feel and look much better:-)  I have been on the medicine for only 4 days now and my ears look really good.  You can see from my pictures how the left one looks like a normal labbie ear and the right one is on its way as well.  Between the steroids and the Benadryl, I am not anywhere near as itchy and I can sleep thru the night again like a sweet girl like me needs.  After all, what woman doesn’t need her beauty sleep!

Here's me "before".

Here's me "after".

My foster mom is transitioning me over to her dogs’ food because one of her dogs has food allergies too.  But don’t worry, they get the food at Petsmart and it isn’t anymore expensive than other quality dog foods:-)  My foster mom says I am so awesome because she just throws my antibiotic in the food bowl and I eat it right up with my food…yummy!  And speaking of food…I am only given 4 cups of food instead of the 6 I was getting before I came here.  My FM and FD were worried that I would be miserable but I’m not at all.  I lay on the floor in the kitchen during dinner and I don’t even beg for food!  Okay, if I finish my food and no one is watching I will go eat Winston’s but someone catches me everytime and makes me stop.  I say if he isn’t going to eat it, why let it go to waist…I mean waste:-)

Here's another "before".

And here's another "after".

My FM tells me how lucky I am because I am the only foster dog they have had that they let sleep in the bed with them.  She says something about them missing having a dog in the bed with them so they are breaking one of their cardinal rules.  While I love to sleep on their bed, I don’t mind sleeping on the floor either.

I go back to the vet on 6/29 so get ready because I will be available after that I’m sure!  I am a really wonderful dog (everyone agrees) who would be a perfect addtion to anyone’s home.  I have never lived with other dogs and I get along great with the three other dogs in my foster home.  In fact, if Coal stops playing with me I give him a little tap on his nose to let him know I’m not done yet:-)  My FM is trying to get a picture of that but hasn’t been able to yet.  I never lived with cats before and all I am is curious about them.  Although if they look at me and walk towards me, I back away from them.  My FM calls me a scaredy dog.  I am starting to pull on the leash but my FD is going to start working with me on that.

That’s it for now.  Enjoy the pics and I will catch up with you later!

June 14, 2011

Sugar went to the vet last night and had a full work up.  They took cultures from her ears, between her toes and in her private area.  Her ears and privates look like cauliflower:-(  The cultures came back with yeast between her toes, bacteria in her privates and yeast AND bacteria in her ears!  No wonder she is soooo uncomfortable:-(  We are giving her 2 Benadryl twice a day so at least she is able to sleep at night!  Her anal glands were so full that it was extremely painful for her to have them expressed.  They clipped her nails, took urine and blood.  I should have those results over the next few days.

Sugar came home with a strong antibiotic, steroids and an antibacterial shampoo that I need to bath her feet and private area in 2x/week.  And not only is Sugar going to be on steroids but the vet said to feed her the amount for an 80 lb. dog since that is what she should be.  Boy is she going to be hungry:-(  I will let everyone know how she is doing this weekend.

June 10, 2011

Today was another wonderful day with Sugar!  We were all away for about 4 hours today so we put Sugar in our room since we still want to keep them separated when we aren’t watching them.  Sugar was fine in our room.  She eats her food immediately so that is good.  She has seen our one cat, Pounce, a few times and there has been no more of a reaction than curiosity so she will be fine in a home with cats:-)

She loves Coal and the two of them play as much as we will let them!  It is really sweet to see my Coal play so nicely with an older dog instead of the rough and tumble, tear the house down, whirling dirvish that happens when he plays with Tucker.  Sugar likes playing with Coal so much that if Coal stops, she smacks him in the head with her paw:-)  He better watch out because when she looses some weight and we get her allergies under control she is really going to give him a run for his money!  However, I think that my poor, sweet Tucker is jealous because he hasn’t really interacted with Sugar at all:-(

Wrestling with Coal.

Winston is also warming up to her.  In fact, one of the pictures is of the two of them laying together.  You can see how light yellow Sugar is next to my handsome Winston.  Sorry but the two of them are too big and I couldn’t get them both completely in the picture:-)

Napping with Winston.

June 9, 2011

Hey everyone out there in Brookline Land.  My name is Sugar and I just wanted to tell you how great my new foster home is!  First off, this really nice lady picked me up from my mom and I got to be in her sweet ride (she has a Cadillac) when we went to meet my new foster mom.  My new foster mom has a really cool SUV but it’s no Caddy:-)  Anyway, I came home here and I got to meet my fur foster brothers Winston, Tucker and Coal.  Winston looks like me but is a much darker yellow.  Tucker is this GIANT Great Dane/Irish Wolfhound that just thinks I am the Cat’s Meow (not exactly sure what that means but my new foster mom says it’s a good thing).  Then I met crazy Coal.  He’s a lot of fun and I have already started playing with him.  Although my foster mom keeps telling him to take it easy and said we can’t hang out together too much for the first couple days.  Something about me needing to settle in first.

I like to play with my foster brother Coal.

After exploring the backyard and the inside of the house, my foster mom and dad took me out front and gave me a nice cool bath.  I was a VERY good girl!  I just stood there while my FM bathed me.  It felt really good to be cooled off like that.  Then my FM took me for a quick walk down the block and by the time we got back, I was almost completely dry!  My FM said at least this heat is good for something:-)  I didn’t pull on the leash or anything.  My FM kept telling my FD that obviously people don’t know what pulling like a champ really is.  FM and FD kept saying something about people coming over and trying to walk Tucker.

I went for a nice walk & didn't even pull on my leash like crazy.

I have just eaten a little dinner.  My FM started mixing in their dogs’ food because she said Tucker is allergic to lots of things too.  My FM said she is going to get me to the vet real soon so we can start to figure out what I am allergic to and help me not be so itchy!  That sounds like a great plan to me:-)  Oh well, I’m really exhausted now so I’m going to take a little nap.  I am including some pictures of my first day here so you can see how awesome I am:-)  Check back soon for an update from me.

It's been an exhausting day. Time to nap. :)
