Brew Bear is not much of a water dog so we have been doing indoor activities to keep him busy and engaged in this heat!
He also went on a little field trip to Tractor Supply. He was such a good boy and enjoyed meeting and getting petted by several people. No other dogs there to practice walk by with, but there was still a lot to look at and sniff!

Brew Bear has been working hard with his trainer on good manners, and has made tremendous progress.
When on leash, he has learned “with me” which means heel, and “free” which tells him he is free to sniff and enjoy the walk. He is also learning to ignore other dogs on walks as Mr. Social wants to go and greet everyone he passes! He has found he’d much rather get praise and treats than bark at passing dogs.
This big boy really wants to please, and not only loves verbal praise and treats, but play time with a ball or tug toy is the best! Brew loves running and playing with a variety of balls – check out the video and watch him with a spring pole.
He has gotten really good at waiting calmly until released, even if there are fun things like peanut butter or toys. Of course he knows his patience pays off, as he gets to chase the ball when he has listened!
Chasing butterflies is also a favorite pastime – what a character!
Brew loves talking walks, playing with balls and being with his people.
This handsome dude is hoping to find an active home where he can get lots of play time followed by snuggle time!

Brew Bear spent some time in a busy condo community with his foster, and we found out that a really busy environment is probably not the best scenario for Brew Bear right now. This playful boy gets a bit too excited in meeting new people and dogs, and has trouble knowing what to do with all of that excitement! So he often ends up jumping and barking and sometimes getting a bit mouthy. It makes those daily walks a bit of a challenge.
So we decided that it would be helpful to work with a professional trainer in a board and train. This gives him the opportunity to learn how to greet both people and furry friends appropriately, whether on leash, through a fence or just hanging out. He can brush up on his social skills with a professional’s help.
She has found out that Brew LOVES to play with a variety of toys and balls and something called a spring pole, where he jumps up and grabs a tube that bounces up and down. He is also learning to be a good listener and the value of waiting patiently, as it earns rewards. This helps when he gets overly excited. He is making great progress! This boy really wants to please, and he is becoming a star pupil!
Stay tuned for more updates about this handsome boy!

Bear Bear loves to play with his friend Teddy!

And as always when he is outside, the ball is a big hit with Brew Bear.

I took Brew Bear to a local trail through the woods. He loved exploring and chasing butterflies when they got close enough! He was a very good boy in the car and on the walk.
Now that we’ve had some warm days, I got out the pool and filled it up. Brew Bear enjoyed checking it out, and testing the water.
He had a great time in the big yard chasing the birds and butterflies! He’s such a silly guy!

Brew Bear is a handsome boy!

He is still enjoying his playtime in the big yard.
Brew Bear has been practicing his sit and stay, and then down and stay. This is the first time we practiced it outside in the yard. We’ve been practicing it in the smaller courtyards where there are less distractions. He did pretty well even with more distractions.
Brew Bear has also been working on the obstacles, and did really well!
Brew Bear likes getting some couch time too to chill and chew on toys!

This handsome, approximately 2 year old pup is now ready to find his forever home. He is super sweet and super affectionate, and love to play with his toys, go for walks, and take car rides.
Brew Bear loves everyone he meets, and has been meeting a variety of dogs and doing well. Since he hasn’t been in a home, he will need someone willing to work on house manners, but he does keep his kennel clean. He is crate trained and does not seem to be destructive, as he sleeps with his blanket every night. He is still working on not jumping when he is excited, and he does best on a Gentle Leader. He is easy to walk but gets excited when he sees other dogs or leaves blowing in the wind!:)

Brew Bear is recovering well from his neuter surgery. He also got his ears repacked. We have been practicing quiet walks on leash. He is really enjoying seeing all the birds, although he keeps wanting to chase them! We are trying to practice some quiet activities as he heals up.

Brew Bear met some more friends. Brew Bear and Teddy had a great time playing.
He does really seem to like the ones he’s met so far, male and female. He met a little puppy through the fence too. He really wanted to play. I wanted to do as much as I could with other dogs this week since he gets neutered soon.
When Brew Bear finally met and played with the puppy , he was a superstar!
This is his last chance for doggie play for a couple of weeks once the neutering gets done.
Stay tuned to hear how Brew Bear does after surgery!

Brew Bear is doing so well! He has been doing a few meet and greets with other dogs and is gaining confidence.
His manners are improving, jumping up much less now.
He was very good for his bath and nail trim too!
He especially loves windy days and chasing the dried leaves that blow around!
He has been practicing a down/stay.

Brew Bear loves playing with toys! He’s so sweet and a bit silly!
Brew Bear got a bath this week and was a super star! The groomers’ dogs are in there and he enjoyed watching them pup around.
I also took him around to meet some easy-going dogs that were in their crates. He was very friendly and curious, wanting to sniff and say hello to each one. I have not had him play with any dogs yet because we are still getting to know him and want to make sure he feels comfortable.
Brew Bear likes to go between my legs so I can scratch his back. He’s a leaner too.

Brew Bear is doing great! He’s so sweet and on the calm side. He now has a bed and a blanket in his kennel run, and has not chewed either of them. He got a treat filled kong too, which he loved!
He loves toys, but would rather play tug than fetch, so we will be practicing “drop it.” We started practicing making trades for toys or treats.

Brew Bear is a 2 yr old lab mix that arrived at Kamp after being pulled from ACCT Philly just before his time stamp was up and he’d be euthanized for space.
He just went to the vet today for a thorough exam, bloodwork, fecal, and treatment for his ear infections. He was a very good boy for them! He is incredibly sweet with people, although might be slightly shy at first. Even though he’s a big guy he’s very gentle and surprisingly good on leash.
The shelter did some good work with him getting him used to going on walks and being around other dogs. They said that he’s dog selective and seems to react more when the other dog barks at him first. He prefers a slow introduction to other dogs. Going for a walk together is ideal.
He’s been very quiet and relaxed his run, and is enjoying getting to know us and all the smells in the yards. He loves playing with toys and chewing on them. He doesn’t seem overly interested in fetch at this time. Stay tuned for more updates as we get to know this handsome boy.
