Hazel #5 Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd Mix Female 2.5 Months Old ID#3775

black labrador mixMeet Hazel!  This fluffy girl was part of an accidental litter between neighbors in Arkansas.  Their Mom was a pure bred German Shepherd and Dad was a chocolate Labradoodle.  Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixHazel was 1 of 9 in the litter, and grew up with her Mom and siblings until she was transferred to foster care with Monticello Second Chance Fur Dogs Rescue at 8 weeks.  As they are inundated with litters of abandoned puppies and adult dogs, they reached out to Brookline to help place the puppies into loving homes.  Hazel is now in a Brookline foster home.  Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about this adorable girl!

Hazel has officially been with us for one week, and her personality continues to shine more each day. We’ve seen an increase in puppy shenanigans as she gets more comfortable, especially when she’s playing with our 8-month-old Lab. They are so fun to watch together! Even so, she’s still surprisingly laid back for a puppy and knows when it’s time to settle.

This girl is smart. Hazel will sit for a treat and is already sitting and waiting patiently at mealtimes. She also made quite the impression at the vet this week. She was an absolute rockstar and the perfect patient during her exam.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixCrate time is improving, too.  She still fusses for a few minutes when she first goes in, but she’s been settling down on her own.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixAnd somehow… we think she’s gotten even fluffier this week. This little fluffernutter is incredibly sweet and loves to cuddle!

Hazel continues to show us what a sweet, thoughtful girl she is. She’s working hard on her potty skills and is doing a great job letting us know when she needs to go out by heading to the door. She has had a few accidents recently, mostly due to an upset tummy, so today it’s all about chicken and rice for this little lady.

Crate time is improving, too! Hazel may still protest for the first few minutes, but she quickly settles in and relaxes once she realizes it’s time to rest. Each day she gets more comfortable with the routine.

When it comes to playtime, Hazel is wonderful with the resident dogs. She enjoys being part of the fun but also knows her limits. When play gets a little too rough, she politely steps out of the way and gives herself some space. It’s clear she’s a gentle soul.

We’re so proud of the progress Hazel is making and love watching her confidence grow a little more each day.

Hazel’s first night was pretty typical for a new puppy, and overall she did really well. She had about 10 minutes of crying before settling into her crate, which is honestly a win for night one. She was up about every two hours to go potty, but once we moved out to the couch next to her, she gave us a solid three-hour stretch of sleep.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixPotty training is already looking promising! Hazel goes almost immediately when we get outside, which will be very appreciated on those freezing cold nights. She has had a few accidents in the house, but they were mostly my fault, not hers. She lets us know when she needs to go out by crying and has even started heading to the door, which is a great sign this early on.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixToday she’s been fairly laid back for a puppy, maybe still tired from her journey over the past couple of days. She’s playful without being overly wild (much calmer than my lab puppies were at this age), eats well, loves playing with toys, and thoroughly enjoys a Milk-Bone after her meals. Hazel continues to show just how sweet and easygoing she is, and we’re enjoying every moment getting to know her.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd Mix

Hazel traveled for 24hrs from Arkansas with 3 of her siblings and arrived safely to PA,  and was welcomed by her new foster family.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd Mix Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixHazel did so well on the drive home. She settled right into her crate with a bone and happily chewed away for the entire 45-minute ride. Once we arrived, it was straight to the spa for a much needed bath, and she handled it like a champ.Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd MixShe did great meeting my two resident dogs and has already proven herself very capable of tiring out my 8-month-old lab puppy (no small feat!). She is gentle and enjoying the love from my 4-year old daughter.

Hazel is super sweet, incredibly soft, and oh-so fluffy.

We’re excited to get to know this girl better!
