Sandy #10 Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 4 Years Old ID#3753

Yellow Labrador RetrieverMeet Sandy!  Sandy is a purebred Red Fox Yellow Labrador who was surrendered to Brookline by her owner so now she is finally done with her breeding farm days.  Sandy is in need of some medical care and some extra TLC to make her feel safe as she settles into her foster home.  Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn all about her journey while in foster care.

It’s been almost 3 weeks since Sandy came to our home. She’s so sweet and just wants to be near you. Sandy helps me do yoga by laying next to me and goes between putting her head on my shoulder or going belly up for some belly rubs. Yellow Labrador RetrieverSandy walks next to you with a loose leash, sometimes so close that she may bump into your leg. If she can lay close and put her head on your lap, she just goes to sleep. Sometimes she puts her head on my feet if she can’t get up next me. Yellow Labrador RetrieverSandy’s foot injury is almost all healed up and is looking good. It has never stopped her from going on walks, one of her favorite things. She’s so gentle when meeting up with the neighborhood kids and loves to give them kisses. Sandy has been good about meeting other dogs if they are calm but some of the neighbor’s dogs in electric or physical fence that charge at the fence and bark will make her be reactive also. She’s not aggressive, she just starts barking and pulling and spinning but a firm NO and make her sit and she will eventually stop and then we continue our walk. My male dog has taught her that squirrels do not belong in the yard. Sandy may be a little overweight but she can run almost as fast as him when it’s time to chase the squirrels.

She’s did go into heat 2 weeks ago and will hopefully be ending that in the next week. Sandy is good about putting on her panties even though I can tell she doesn’t like them. When it’s cold and windy I put a little fleece jacket on her and she just sits there while I get her suited up. She’s very easy to deal with when doing things like nail trim, ear cleaning and now even teeth brushing.

This girl is going to make some family very happy!! She will be available soon and will be adopted out with a spay contract.

Sandy is such a sweet and loving dog. She is definitely starved for affection as she pushes her way in to get all the attention.Yellow Labrador RetrieverThis girl has blossomed so much in just one week from that shy farm girl!! These are the things Sandy has learned:

-orthopedic dog beds are great

-you need to do the lab dance and spin while your meal is being prepared

-cats aren’t so scarey

-kids are fun

-car rides are fun

-every time I go outside and do my business, I get a treat when I come in

-it’s great to meet people on walks because they give me lots of attention

Sandy continues to be such a joy to have in our home. She no longer alert barks at the cats and they even go up to sniff her nose and she just looks at them with no interest. Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe loves everyone she meets. Sandy gets excited for walks and we go out several times a day and she walks right next to me with no pulling, wish my own dogs were that good.Yellow Labrador RetrieverSandy was scheduled to be spayed 1/5 but she went into heat 1/2 so that will need to be done at a later date. She did have some Xrays today to see what was going on with her hind foot wound. The Xrays showed that there’s no breaks or concern with her hips and spine. There could have been a soft tissue injury as she has a healing wound on her foot and side of her nose. There is no nerve deficit based on exam. The veterinarian said her prognosis is good.Yellow Labrador RetrieverIf you are looking for a sweet and loving dog, Sandy is your girl.

She loves to snuggle and will lay her head on your lap and let out a sigh and just go to sleep. How can anyone resist this beautiful face?

It’s been a busy time for this beautiful girl since she got off the farm! Her name is Sandy but I call her Sweet Sandy!! She had a long ride in the car, quick stop for a bath(she actually didn’t smell bad, she just smelled like hay/straw) and then a vet visit. Sandy was a hit at the vet’s, she got lots of attention and the assistant snuck her a toy on the way out. She put her head on the vet’s lap and closed her eyes, it was so sweet. Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe did sit up, growl and bark and I thought she heard something outside the door but it was the picture of a cat hanging on the wall. We have 2 cats so that is a work in progress. She doesn’t look for them but if they come out and she sees them then it’s barking and a chase.

Introduction with my dogs was seamless. Sandy quickly learned what dog beds are and how comfortable they are. I love how the new foster is trained by my dogs, makes it easier for me. There have been no accidents in the house. I am crating her at night until the cat situation is completely resolved. She walks well on a leash and appetite has been great.Yellow Labrador RetrieverSandy’s blood work was good and will schedule surgery in the next week or two. The wound on her foot looks like possibly an old injury. Will do X-rays when she’s under for spay. It’s not oozing and doesn’t seem to bother her at this time. I cleaned her ears, she wasn’t happy about it but she eventually left me do it. Yellow Labrador RetrieverLooking forward to learning more about this sweet girl!!! She’s definitely come out of her shell a lot already!!!Yellow Labrador Retriever
