Farm to Family – Lila
Lila spent the first 6 years of her life as a breeder dog on a farm in Pennsylvania. When having litters was no longer easy, the farmer contacted Brookline. The day of her rescue ride Lila rode to meet her new foster dad Jeff. On her ride home, she kept looking out the back window as if she was saying goodbye to her old life.
At her foster home, Lila met her foster fur sister, Ruby, and Kim, her foster mom. She was nervous and cautious, but after being soaped up with shampoo and washing off the smells of the farm, Lila began to relax; her tension eased. Lila’s beautiful loving nature began to shine through, and everyone knew this was the start of a lovely new adventure for her.
Over the next few months Jeff, Kim and Ruby showed Lila what being a house pet is all about. She went on real dog adventures like hiking, car rides, long walks on the leash and swimming in the Delaware River. Lila even made an appearance at a Brookline event in Warminster where she met some lovely potential adopters (more on that later). She tackled every challenge bravely and proved to everyone that she loved her new life.
Once spayed, the most important task was to find Lila her forever home. Unsurprisingly, one of the families who met her at the event in Warminster had been following her blog and applied to adopt her. They were looking for a new lab who would love an active adventurous lifestyle. Jeff and Kim were so happy to choose them.
Lila’s adventures continue as she integrates into her new forever home. She’s been with us for three months, now. Together, we’ve experienced many new activities that bring her such happiness and much joy to her new parents. For example, she figured out that the couch is a wonderful place to lounge and has taken the corner cushion as her designated spot. Her new nighttime routine consists of eating dinner then finding her favorite bone of the day and jumping up on the couch.
When Lila is not lounging on her couch, another favorite activity is her long walks through various neighborhoods. She is always very excited when she comes across a fellow dog friend, particularly one golden retriever. She also loves to chase the many bunnies and squirrels she encounters and finds much joy in almost catching them.
A true Labrador Retriever, Lila loves the water! If there is water, Lila is in it. Whether it is a sprinkler, a pool, a river or stream.
Finally, riding in the car has become another favorite of Lila’s. She has learned that sticking her head out the window provides great entertainment and lots of good smells.
Lila’s transition from Farm to Family has truly been a success. We can’t thank Brookline enough for rescuing her from her old life as we all look forward to many new adventures still to come!
