Farm to Family – Lucy 2

What do we say about Lucy…

She was a farm girl who found out being a beloved family member was going to be just right for her. She did it on her own terms and timeline, which was fine with us. Once she began to trust, and understand she was family, she never stopped evolving. So many milestones along the way.

From not wanting to leave her safe spot in the sunroom, to realizing the living room was okay, but when there are people in the kitchen that is the spot to be. Figuring out that the big gray bearded guy wasn’t so bad after all, even though FM is still the best. From being unsure about riding in the car to realizing riding shotgun is where it’s at.

Figuring out that going outside means a cookie when I get back inside, so I may as well just walk in and out of the door until they close it. That’s after figuring out what treats were, when she first got here there was no understanding of what treats were.

From staying at the other side of the house when we got home, to greeting us at the door. Realizing that if I sit near Foster Mom or Foster Dad while they’re in the living room I’ll get pets. Knowing that if I plop on the floor in front of Foster Mom and show her my belly, I’m gonna get belly rubs, and realizing how much she likes belly rubs. Bopping Foster Mom and Foster Dad on the back of the legs just so they know I’m here to help. Finally, from having a splotchy wiry coat, to the beautiful shiny coated girl she is now.

If we wouldn’t have seen it for ourselves, you would have a hard time convincing us that this is the same girl that Brookline volunteer, Maija, met us with the day of her rescue from the farm just 8 months ago. What an amazing transformation she has made! From the girl who feared anyone else’s shadow, to one who wants to be in your shadow.

Now, ready for her next adventure, Lucy is with her wonderful forever family. She is living her best life. With love and support from her new family, Lucy has proven she can and will thrive.

Lucy’s journey has been a pleasure and privilege for us to be a part of.
