Dex #2 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix 4 Years Old ID #3574
We picked up Dex from the shelter on Tuesday and boy was he ready to get outta there! He is an owner-surrender, that had been there a month and had had enough of that racket! Sadly, his mom was moving to a place where she couldn’t bring him. So poor Dex was surely confused and super-stressed about the whole thing. Please read the blog from the bottom up.

We expect the quiet life in South Jersey suburbia will be a welcome change. It will take him some time of course to decompress from a stressful turn of events. He is already settling in nicely.

“Practically perfect in every way”? Meet Dex.

This beautiful boy has been with us a week and has made amazing strides. When he arrived, he was of course, super-stressed from his month at the shelter but after about a day in our care, he figured it out – he was safe and at home. He relaxed.

Dex is a snuggle-bug, a great sleeper/bedtime buddy and Work From Home companion.
Dex walks pretty well on the leash – pulls a little bit – we are working on that. We think he wasn’t walked before? Because he did not know the word “walk”, but he LOVES it! sniffs EVERYTHING.
Dex has a bit of separation anxiety – especially when his preferred human, FD, leaves the house.

We are working on that too. When left alone, he is fine with run of the house.
Dex is not bothered by other dogs. We arranged a playdate with a neighbor dog and it was perfectly friendly.
Dex loves to go on car rides. So of course we had to hit up Starbucks for a puppacino.
Dex enjoys his puppacino
He was a perfect gentleman. Good manners and left zero mess.
This very good boy is going to be ready for his forever home very soon.

Dex – first morning visit to backyard
He rode in the car to his new foster home, beautifully. He explored the backyard, ate a little dinner, snuggled on the sofa and was ready for bed. He had already inspected every corner of the house and located the bed upstairs and decided it was for him, right? Chances are good he was used to sleeping on the bed with his mom.
He was a little but anxious when it seemed, to him, to be taking too long for the humans to settled down. But then he found his spot and went right to sleep. Dex is a good sleeper! Not a peep out of him all night and woke up at what we retired folks consider a reasonable hour.
Day 2 he went for some more car rides on errands and did great. He has been for a couple of walks in the neighborhood and is not the least bit reactive to other dogs. He does pull a little on the leash but get this, he doesn’t know the word “Walk” which makes us think he wasn’t walked much if at all before. He will improve.
Stay tuned as we learn more about this boy and he learns more about us!
