Freddie #3 Fox Red Labrador Retriever Male 1 Year Old ID #3712

Freddie is a farm bred dog who was purchased by one family and passed along another because he had too much energy.  At his second home, he lived in a garage, separated from the other dogs and people in the house.  Freddie still has his puppy disposition and needs to learn how to be a house dog.  His rescue ride took him from the garage and into a foster home where he can learn some house manners. Please read his blog from bottom to top.

“Loooooking good!” Freddie the Prince is such a handsome, sweet boy!  He even posed for an Easter photo to celebrate the occasion.  Yellow Labrador RetrieverHe is 86lbs. of sheer enthusiasm and curiosity.  Given how Freddie really hadn’t had much opportunity to be his best dog self, he’s taking the chance and learning how.

First, Freddie is learning house manners.  Although he is so gentle, he has no understanding of personal space, but he’s starting to catch on.  Freddie’s definition of “close” is “on top of,” “leaning against” or “breathing on” whomever is closest.  Let’s just say, he just really wants to be close to FM or the resident dogs.  Although Freddie is a bit curious, he is quickly corrected with a “no” or “uh uh.”

Housebreaking is going pretty well.  He has learned that the crate isn’t a horrible place and goes into it when it’s bed time.  He’s quiet all night long as the night light is on.  When FM needs to go out, he has stayed crated without issue up to 4 hours.  He gets along well with the resident dogs and they are a calming influence on him, so he probably needs a house with a chill resident dog.

This guy is learning how to play as well.  He wasn’t interested in toys or bones when he arrived but quickly learned the “joy of toys.”  Freddie found a tug toy and Dol quickly taught him how to play tug.  He has occupied himself with the Nyla bones and soup bones.  But, to FM’s surprise, Freddie LOVES to play fetch.  Within minutes of learning about balls, he was flinging them around the room and scrambling after them.  Taking that outside, he can chase down the ball clear across the yard.  It’s great to see him having fun.

Freddie was recently neutered, so keeping him from running around has been challenging.  He really wants to get going.  So, we walk – a lot.  One on one, he is easy on the leash.  When he walks with the resident dogs, it is a bit more challenging, but he is adapting quickly.Yellow Labrador Retriever  For a dog who didn’t get much exercise before, he is making up for lost time. He is really looking forward to more time in the yard with the resident dogs, getting out all of that redheaded energy. FM is really looking forward to seeing this big boy become his best self.

Fast Freddie rolled right into his foster home and made fast friends with the resident dogs.  He wasn’t quite fast enough to catch Dolly as she raced him around the yard, but he did manage to wear himself out.  He quickly settled in with Gus as well, ate some dinner, and made himself right at home.

Freddie followed the resident dogs throughout the first floor of the house and claimed his favorite spot, in the corner of the family room. Yellow Labrador Retriever He didn’t try to get onto the furniture or claim a dog bed yet.  He also didn’t seem interested in any of the dog toys that were in the basket either.  Freddie was captivated by the television and apparently is a Wheel of Fortune fan.  Who knew?!Yellow Labrador Retriever

If he’s not running outside or snoozing in the corner, Freddie’s looking for pets and ear rubs. His big block head makes that easy.  So far, he hasn’t touched anything that he shouldn’t and has been respectful of everyone. His tail never stops wagging and his Lab smile shines.  Stay tuned for more about this handsome boy!
