Lance #2 Yellow Labrador Retriever Male 8 Years Old ID #3567

Meet Lance: The Sock Bandit With a Heart of Gold šŸ§¦šŸ’›Yellow Labrador Retriever

Allow us to introduce Lance—an 8-year-old, cream-colored English Lab with movie-star looks, a zest for life, and… a slight misunderstanding about what qualifies as food.

Lance recently found himself at the vet after his previous family made the difficult decision to surrender him due to life changes—and, well, his impressive (and expensive) hobby of eating things like socks and eye drops. While his culinary choices are questionable at best, his former family clearly cared deeply and wanted him to have the best chance at a happy, safe life. Enter: Foster Mom (FM), Foster Dad (FD), and their resident dog crew. Please read his blog from bottom to top.

Lance’s Two-Week Update: Beach Boy Era Activated 🌊🐾

Lance has officially been with us for just over two weeks, and he continues to prove he is, in fact, aĀ veryĀ good boy—just with a few classic Lab ā€œfeatures.ā€

At home, Lance has fully settled into the good life:

  • He loves his daily walks and hikes
  • Peacefully coexists with the resident dogs
  • Has fully embraced bedsĀ andĀ couches as his rightful lounging spots
  • Eats every meal like it’s his last (with gusto and enthusiasm)
  • And thoroughly enjoys destroying stuffed toys… but politely doesĀ notĀ eat them (we appreciate the restraint, Lance) – Many thanks to Brookline for his Foster box full of goodies!Yellow Labrador Yellow Labrador

The Great Beach AdventureĀ šŸš—šŸŒŠ
Last Friday kicked off a big adventure. Bright and early, FM loaded up all three dogs for a road trip to the beach.

Plan: Lance in the way back, resident dogs in the back seat.
Lance’s plan:Ā absolutely not.

Within seconds, he climbed over the seat and claimed his spot. Adjustments were made, all dogs were secured, and off they went.

During the 1.5-hour drive, Lance was calm but alert—sitting up, looking around, taking it all in. FM suspects he may have been wondering,Ā ā€œWhere am I going now?ā€Ā (Don’t worry, Lance—this trip had a much happier ending.)

First Steps on the Sand… and Immediate Opinions
Once at the beach house, Lance did a quick home inspection before heading out for a walk to the beach.

The moment he smelled the ocean, everything changed.

Ears up. Nose working. Brain:Ā activated.

And then… PULL MODE ENGAGED.

Once his paws hit the sand, Lance made it very clear he had one goal:Ā GET. TO. THE. WATER.
He pulled, whined, barked, and pleaded his case passionately. FM, channeling her inner strength training, held firm—but ultimately had to retreat. A wet, sandy dog was not ideal right before the workday.

Round one: Ocean 1, Lance 0.

Weekend Highlights: Social ButterflyĀ šŸ¦‹
Saturday brought visitors, and Lance was thrilled. Yes, he greeted guests with some enthusiastic jumping (he just hasĀ so much love to give), but he quickly settled and transitioned into cuddle mode. He was a hit, as usual.Yellow Labrador

Sunday Redemption: The Ocean WinsĀ šŸŒŠšŸ’™
On Sunday, FM had a strategy: tire Lance out first.

After a solid 3-mile walk with Lance and the 5-year-old resident dog, they headed back to the beach. Surely now he’d be calmer, right?

Wrong.Ā šŸ˜„

Lance doubled down on his mission—pulling, whining, and lobbying hard for ocean access. Finally, FM gave in. Shoes off, socks off, leash in a firm grip… and into the water they went.

Pure. Joy.

With only a 6-foot leash’s worth of freedom, Lance made the most of it—dunking into the waves, splashing, soaking, and living his absolute best life. This was not his first beach trip, that much is clear.

And in a surprising twist? Melissa joined in too! Previously not a fan of the ocean, she was inspired by Lance’s enthusiasm. Peer pressure, but make it wholesome.

FM, meanwhile, enjoyed a scenic half-mile walk home in wet sweatpants and soaked sneakers (turns out they were standing aĀ bitĀ too close to the water). Worth it? Absolutely.

Spa Day & SunshineĀ ā˜€ļø
Back at the house, both dogs were treated to spa showers, towel-dried, and then relaxed on the sunny back deck to finish drying off. Not a bad way to end a beach day.

What We’ve Learned About Lance
If there was any doubt before, it’s now crystal clear:

šŸ‘‰Ā Lance is aĀ water dog through and through.

A home with access to a beach, lake, or any swimmable body of water would be a dream come true for him. Swimming isn’t just something he enjoys—it’s something that lights him up.Yellow Labrador

Final Thoughts
Lance continues to be a loving, goofy, easygoing companion who just wants:

  • His people
  • His walks
  • His cozy spots
  • And, ideally… regular access to water for swimming

He’s the definition of a Labrador Retriever, and he’s making the most of every new experience.

Stay tuned… Lance may be lobbying for a permanent beach membership. 🐾🌊Yellow Labrador Yellow Labrador

Lance’s One-Week Update: Living His Best (Couch-Loving, Cupcake-Stealing) Life šŸ›‹ļøšŸ§

Lance has officially been with us for just over a week, and we’re pretty sure he’s thinking, ā€œYes, I will be staying forever, thank you.ā€

This week’s big discovery? Furniture.

Beds. Couches. Soft, cozy, human-approved lounging spots. Lance has decided that sleeping in the bed is, in fact, the greatest invention of all time. That said, he’s still a good sport about using his crate when left alone with the resident dogs—because, as we all know, Lance + unsupervised freedom + snack opportunities = potential shenanigans. Safety first for our favorite ā€œingestion riskā€ boy!Yellow Labrador

Velcro Dog Status: Activated šŸ’›

Lance has also revealed his softer side—he loves to lie on Foster Mom and prefers to be touching her at all times. A paw here, a lean there… just in case she forgets he exists (as if!). Melissa is still adjusting to sharing the spotlight, but with a little reassurance that FM’s love is not a limited resource, everyone is settling in nicely.Yellow Labrador

Easter Extravaganza: 19 Humans, 3 Kids, 1 Lance

Lance tackled his biggest social event yet—an Easter gathering with 19 people, including kids ages 2, 5, and 7.

Overall verdict? Superstar.

Yes, Lance can get a little jumpy and occasionally mouthy when meeting new adults (he just has a lot of enthusiasm to share), but he responds well to correction and settles down quickly. Most importantly, he was gentle and appropriate with the kids, which made everyone very happy.

…But Then There Was the Cupcake 🧁

In true Lance fashion, he reminded us that his ā€œselective snack acquisitionā€ skills are still very much intact.

While seated guests were right there, Lance executed a flawless counter-surfing maneuver and snagged a cupcake—wrapper and all—from the middle of the counter. Gone in seconds. No regrets.

So yes, continued supervision is a must. Food is simply too tempting, and Lance is both clever and opportunistic when it comes to baked goods.

Health Check: Doing Great!

Lance is continuing his course of doxycycline for Lyme disease and is handling it like a champ—no GI upset, no issues. Just taking his meds and carrying on with life like the resilient boy he is.

Routine Pro = Happy Dog

By now, Lance has fully learned the household routine and thrives on it. He knows what to expect, when to expect it, and how to maximize treats along the way. He’s settled, content, and truly a joy to have in the home.

The Bottom Line

Lance is everything you’d want in a Labrador:

Loving

Affectionate (very… very affectionate šŸ˜„)

Goofy

Social

Great with kids

Dog-friendly

With a side of:

Counter-surfing talent

Occasional jumpy greetings

Lifelong need for ā€œthat is NOT foodā€ supervision

He really is the best boy, and everyone who meets him falls in love.

Stay tuned… and maybe keep your cupcakes a little farther back on the counter. 🐾Yellow Labrador

Lance’s 5-Day Update: From Sock Suspect to Star Pupil 🌟🧦

It’s been five days with Lance, and we’re happy to report… he has officially settled in like he’s been here forever!

Even better? We’ve had zero incidents of Lance sampling the household dĆ©cor. No socks missing. No mystery items swallowed. Either he’s reformed… or he’s lulling us into a false sense of security. Time will tell. šŸ˜„Yellow Labrador Retriever

Walks: The Ultimate Treasure Hunt

While Lance is a perfect gentleman inside, the outside world is… well… very exciting. Our neighborhood streets are basically an all-you-can-sniff buffet. And trash day? Oh boy.

Picture Lance: eyes wide, nose working overtime, absolutely thrilled by the endless parade of trash bags lining the curb. FM, meanwhile, is getting a full upper-body workout redirecting him away from his ā€œfinds.ā€

The good news—he’s improving! Lance is starting to respond to ā€œleave itā€ and the classic ā€œeh eh.ā€ There was one moment where FM had to perform a quick ā€œmouth retrieval operationā€ to remove a particularly prized piece of street treasure, but Lance cooperated and let it go. Progress!

Routine = Lance’s Love Language

Lance has fully embraced the daily schedule, and honestly, he might be the most enthusiastic participant.

Morning routine:

Wake up → immediate backyard potty break (lesson learned!)

Group walk around the block with the crew

Then the best part—FM grabs a treat, and Lance sprints into his crate like it’s a game show prize booth. He settles quietly while she’s out. Such a good boy.

Breakfast is now served outside, and a new slow-feeder bowl has helped… slightly. He still eats like he hasn’t seen food in weeks, but we’ll call it refined enthusiasm.

After breakfast, the dogs relax while FM enjoys her coffee (priorities), followed by one more walk before the workday begins.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Office Life: Professional Napper

FM’s office now features three dog beds, which basically function as Lance’s daytime headquarters. After a little toy time (closely supervised—Melissa still claims ownership of all things fun), everyone settles in for a full day of napping.

It’s a tough job, but Lance is committed.

Adventures & Social Calendar

Most evenings include a hike in the nearby park with Melissa, and Lance absolutely loves it. Fresh air, new smells, time with his pack—it’s his happy place.Yellow Labrador Retriever

This week also included a return visit to the vet, where Lance was thrilled to see his old ā€œfriends.ā€ The staff couldn’t believe the difference—they said he seemed like a whole new dog: calmer, more relaxed, but still the same loving, goofy guy they remembered.

He did have a 4DX test (since there was no prior record), which unfortunately came back positive for Lyme disease. The good news is it’s treatable, and Lance has already started a 30-day course of doxycycline. He’s feeling great and handling it like a champ.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Puppy Party Success šŸŽ‰

Last night, Lance attended a dinner party with two fellow Labs, and it was a full-on puppy party! He was an absolute hit—charming, well-behaved, and soaking up attention from all the humans.Labrador Retriever

Like true Labradors, the group decided that getting pets from the adults was far more important than actually playing with each other. Excellent priorities all around.

So… Who Is Lance?Yellow Labrador Retriever

If you looked up ā€œLabrador Retrieverā€ in the dictionary, Lance’s picture would be right there.

He is:

Loving

Goofy

Toy-obsessed

People-focused (he loves attention)

Friendly with every dog he meets

A world-class ā€œstare at you until you pet meā€ expert

Is he perfect? Almost. He’s still working on not jumping up to say hello and polishing those leash manners—but these are totally trainable and improving every day.

Final Thoughts

Lance continues to show us what a special dog he is. With a little structure, consistency, and a watchful eye for ā€œforbidden snacks,ā€ he’s going to make one lucky family incredibly happy.

Stay tuned… Lance’s adventures (and opinions on trash day) are far from over. 🐾

The Meet & Greet (a.k.a. ā€œWill Melissa Approve?ā€)

Before making things official, FM and FD brought their chocolate Lab, Melissa (self-appointed CEO of the household), to meet Lance at the vet. First impressions matter, especially when Melissa prefers to be the alpha.

FM took Lance out for a much-needed walk after his 8-day kennel stay. He came in hot—pulling, huffing, puffing—but eventually settled into a more civilized stroll. Meanwhile, FD and Melissa approached from a distance. No barking. No drama. Promising!

As they got closer, Lance showed a bit of enthusiasm (understandable—new friends!), and Melissa issued a polite but firm ā€œI’m in charge hereā€ grumble. Message received. Moments later, they were mostly ignoring each other… until Lance sealed the deal by rolling onto his back for belly rubs and completely winning over FD. Classic move, Lance.

Freedom Ride & First Adventures

After confirming his microchip, updating his vaccines, and saying goodbye to his biggest fans at the vet, Lance hopped into FM’s car and headed to his foster home.

But first—adventure! FM wisely took Lance and Melissa on a 2-mile hike in the woods to burn off energy and build some neutral ground bonding time before heading home. Both dogs did great! There may have been a brief, suspicious encounter with horse manure (Lance says: ā€œ10/10 would try againā€), but FM was quick on her feet. Jury’s still out on whether he got a tiny ā€œsnack.ā€ šŸ™ˆ

Meeting the Whole Crew

Back home, Lance met the household’s senior yellow Lab, Freda. There was a quick sniff, a mutual agreement to mind their own business, and peace was declared.

Dinner was served—separately, of course. Lance doesn’t just eat… he INHALES. Even with a slow feeder, it’s less ā€œdiningā€ and more ā€œcompetitive sport.ā€ Given that both Lance and Melissa are highly food-motivated, all meals (and even meal prep) happen under strict supervision and separation. No one’s taking chances with flying kibble.

After dinner? Total collapse. Lance found his dog bed and powered down like he’d just completed a marathon.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Night One: Success!

At bedtime, Lance needed just a little encouragement to enter his crate—but once inside, he slept soundly through the night. Gold star, Lance!

Day Two: The Learning Curve

Morning brought excitement! FD let Lance out of his crate, and he bolted upstairs to greet FM and his new housemates. Everyone headed downstairs for the morning routine… and FM quickly learned an important lesson:

šŸ‘‰ Lance must go outside immediately.

He couldn’t quite hold it and had a little accident while waiting to be leashed. FM takes full responsibility—lesson learned!

After a quick walk and successful potty break, FM headed out for a run while Lance relaxed in his crate (with the proper treat-based incentive, of course). Breakfast was served and, unsurprisingly, inhaled. Another walk followed before FM left for an appointment. Lance remained calm and content in his crate—such a good boy.

Workday Vibes & Toy Temptations

The rest of the day was filled with naps in FM’s office and a couple of leisurely walks. We also discovered Lance LOVES toys—but since all toys technically belong to Melissa (according to Melissa), everything was put away before excitement levels could escalate. Safety first, fun later.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Evening Adventure & Sweet Dreams

To wrap up the day, Lance enjoyed a 3-mile hike in the woods. Despite the summer-like heat (and some enthusiastic huffing and puffing), he loved every second.

Dinner followed (again, inhaled), and now? He’s snoozing peacefully on the couch next to FM as this blog is being written. Not a bad life upgrade, Lance.

The Bottom Line

Lance is a lovable, goofy, affectionate Lab who is settling in beautifully. He’ll thrive in an experienced home that understands his one big quirk: he is an ingestion risk. Socks, random objects, mystery items—if it’s within reach, Lance may consider it fair game.

With the right, savvy family who can manage his environment and keep him safe, Lance is going to make an incredibly loyal, fun, and snuggly companion.

Stay tuned for more adventures of Lance: The Snack Detective šŸ•µļøā€ā™‚ļøšŸ½ļø
