Lucy #20 Black Labrador/Hound Mix Female 4 Years Old

Labrador/hound MixMeet Lucy!  Lucy is a very affectionate and loyal 4 year old Labrador/hound mix that is being surrendered by her owners.  After 2 years, they determined that her hound breed characteristics don’t match living with cats. She has an instinctive urge to chase the cats due to her hunting heritage which the cats don’t appreciate.  The cats do correct her and she has had cuts and scrapes but she still engages in chase with them.  For everyone’s safety, the owners feel that Lucy needs to be re-homed.  Lucy is currently looking for an adopter, a foster to adopt family or foster family to help move her into a more appropriate home as soon as possible.  For more information on how you can help, please contact Brookline at info@brooklinelabrescue.org

Sweet Lucy is still waiting patiently for her forever home.  Lucy and her family moved from a house to an apartment about a month ago. This means less space for everyone – including Lucy and the cats.  I’m happy to report that, though things are still tense between Lucy and the cats, it has been better than the family expected. They think the fresh start in a new space means there’s less territorial behavior.  The cats can, and occasionally do, sneak into Lucy’s space in the living room.  Lucy is on edge and jumpy when that happens.  The family thinks Lucy will be much happier and more relaxed in a cat-free home.

Another positive update is that Lucy is doing well with being left alone. No signs of separation anxiety! The family crates her whenever both mom and dad leave and Lucy is fine with it. She is relaxed in the crate and does not bark like she did in the old house. Their schedules have changed since the move, so they are leaving and coming home at different times each day. This has not been an issue for Lucy.  Good girl, Lucy!

Lucy continues to prove that she is a smart and trainable girl. The family bought a new couch and wanted to keep Lucy off it. They trained her to lie down in her own spot in the living room, a cushioned bench that sits at the window next to the couch. Lucy has learned that the bench is “her spot” and she doesn’t even try to get on the couch!  Smart girl, Lucy!  Here are a few pictures of Lucy relaxing in her spot. I’ll bet she loves to lie there and look out the window!black lab mix

Lucy is an adorable 4-year-old girl who is spayed, up to date on all vet care, good with kids, crate-trained, housebroken, playful, smart, good with dogs (though she’d prefer to be the only pet), and – as she has shown with her recent move – adaptable to new situations!

Lucy is an energetic, sweet, friendly, affectionate, and playful girl once she gets to know someone, and thinks that she is a lap dog. She is initially cautious when meeting new people, approaching slowly and backing away if you try to pet her before she is ready. She seems to do best if you ignore her and let her come to you. Once she is comfortable, she is very playful, enjoying fetch and tug. Lucy would benefit from an adopter that is willing to help build her confidence through socialization and training classes.Labrador/hound MixShe loves going for hikes and walks.  Lucy walks well on leash but can bark at other dogs. She would do best with a family that is dedicated in meeting her daily exercise needs as she does have a lot of energy to burn and are willing to work on her leash manners around other dogs.Labrador/hound MixShe loves going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, but she needs close supervision because she sometimes plays too rough and she does not always listen to corrections from other dogs. Lucy seems to prefer larger breed dogs when it does come to playtime at doggie daycare. We are recommending that Lucy be placed as an only dog as she can play rough and doesn’t really get other dog’s cues when they want to stop and for ease in transitioning her to a new home.Labrador/hound MixLucy is crate trained and sleeps in the crate overnight.  Lucy does okay alone gated in the kitchen for a full work day but needs to be crated when left alone outside of her usual daily routine. Lucy would thrive with a structured daily schedule where she could anticipate when her people would be coming and going.Labrador/hound MixLucy is ready to find a family that can match all of her needs so that she can live a happy and stress free life!
