Meet Luke or Lukie. He is a handsome 2 yr old lab mix. He is a small fry; something good in a little package.
I have been working with him for a few days now. When he first arrived he didn’t know his name or any commands. After a few sessions Luke does know his name and sit.
He is getting better with stand. Down is a work in progress. He starts to lie down then basically rolls a little and ends up laying on his side. It’s not exactly what I want but he is so funny doing it. He is what I call wiggly piggly. He’s in constant motion. It is a challenge getting his harness on. We need to work on that. He isn’t used to wearing a harness so he squirms. Today he jumped in a plastic chair at BCK that actually helped me get the harness on. I am sure that wasn’t his intent. Thanks buddy
Yesterday I took him in the small yard. He did not like the snow. He was holding his paws up as if to say what is this horrible stuff. Today he was fine.
Today we went for a walk for about 30 minutes.
I thought for sure Luke would need to be on the front clip of a harness. Nope, he was really good. He does zig zag quite a bit but he probably hasn’t had a lot of leashed walks. He also wanted to stick his whole face in the snow. There must have been some great smells. He was into it. That was the only time he pulled hard. He wanted to get deeper into the snow but my hiking boots are not high enough. I would have had snow in my boots. Sorry buddy, next time I will put on my muck boots.
Luke is catching on and we really are on day 3 of training. He is the happiest guy. Tails is always wagging. He takes treats gently. He is doing well. I am really please. He is a perfect size. He won’t take up too much room in your bed or be a couch hog.
Stay tuned for more Luke stories

I met Luke off of the transport from Arkansas today and he was full of energy and kisses! He is a very handsome boy and a bit smaller than I envisioned he would be. He weighs about 58lbs.
I did have to tether him for the ride even with my barrier as he really wanted to make the journey to BCK in my lap.
After about 5 minutes in the car, he settled down and realized that he wasn’t getting through the barrier to me and laid down and chewed on the bone I brought for him for the hour ride to BCK.
Deb H. was there to meet Luke and we took him for a little walk and then for some playtime in the yard to run off some energy before taking him back to his quarters.
He is a very friendly boy and a quick learner. Deb taught him sit pretty quickly. So far we know he likes to chase after a ball but doesn’t bring it back and he loves string cheese and ice and takes treats gently. He also LOVES attention and pets and giving out lots of wet kisses!

If you are interested in meeting this goofy, adorable young boy before making a foster commitment, please reach out! He’s a great dog and deserves to be in a home instead of the kennel!

Meet Luke, the ultimate playmate and adventure buddy! This happy go lucky 1 year old is full of friendly kisses and is always ready for some fun!
Luke is a young, energetic Labrador mix is a bundle of fun with a playful spirit and an independent streak. He’s an affectionate athlete who loves nothing more than a good game of fetch, exploring the great outdoors or a loving neck scratch.
Luke has never lived inside and will need work on basic manners, leash and house training but he’ll pay your attention back with love and kisses. He is food motivated and a people pleaser so training should be a snap.

With his friendly nature, Luke is a people-pleaser and gets along swimmingly with his furry friends too.
Luke is always up for a good time and is eager to find his forever family to share all life’s exciting moments with. Could you be the lucky one?
