Just checking in with Midknight’s latest news!
Last Wednesday Midknight had his big day – neuter surgery, vaccine updates, 4DX test – the WORKS! We were hoping that we would be able to announce his last call, but he still has significant swelling in his surgical area, so we’ll postpone last call for a little longer. But that’s ok! FM and FD, as well as the little people, enjoy this sweet boy’s company so we’re fine hosting him as long as he needs us to.
More details:
– the 4DX test was all negative. So heartworm preventative has been started. He has also had his first flea and tick preventative.
– his microchip was inserted when he had surgery
– his walks are one of his favorite activities! We are shortening them because of his swelling, but he will definitely need a home where he will get lots of walks!
– his leash skills are improving. I estimate about 60-70% of our walks are with a loose leash. But then he catches a whiff of a really good smell…
– as he has settled into our home more, his sniffing of the resident dog and cat is not as intense and obsessive. So everyone is coexisting happily now. In fact, another confident, well trained dog in his forever home would be an asset. He has learned a lot from Archie – where to potty, what time to expect treats and meals, to keep moving when we’re walking, etc.
– he has met more people and dogs, and has done well. As long as the introduction is slow and calm, he doesn’t get frightened. But we do have to keep a good hold on his collar to keep him from pushing his nose into “personal space”. That is a bad habit we continue to work on!
– Midknight has a very cute way of grabbing his leash and walking himself to the gate when we’re heading out for a walk – he prances with delight!
– he is starting to tell us when he wants to go out or wants to be petted by giving a bark or 2. But otherwise he’s a quiet guy – no barking at squirrels, birds, or other dogs on walks.
I think that’s about it for now. Midknight is a very sweet boy and will make some lucky family very happy!

Greetings Brookline World!
Midknight had a visit to the vet today for a check-up so tonight would be a good time for some general updates:
– he is a healthy boy! He weighed in at 73 lbs. The vet thinks the scabs on his ears are nothing to be concerned about, but we will apply some fungal ointment once a day for the next week, just to be on the safe side.
– Midknight was well behaved in the waiting room at the vet’s office. After a thorough floor-sniffing, he sat calmly by FM’s side and greeted several people and dogs cautiously when they offered to meet him.
– Midknight has had several visits to the local dog park. He is most interested in all the smells! He did a little bit of chasing and running, but sniffing was by far the most interesting activity!
– he is co-existing with the resident cat now. Since he can be trusted more, he has earned more freedom in the house. He likes to spend time with his peeps watching TV in the evenings.
– Midknight is a high spirited, happy fellow! Now that he knows us better, he really wants to be with us all the time. We thought he might like to spend time in the fenced back yard during the day since he didn’t have a yard at his original home. But that hasn’t been the case. If his people are inside, then he wants to be inside too. And if his people are outside, then that’s where you’ll find our boy!
– in keeping with his happy nature, you can count on Midknight to get a case of the zoomies at least once a day! He still isn’t interested in playing ball, but he has a rope toy that he likes to toss into the air and then race around the yard with. I haven’t been able to get video yet, but I’ll keep trying!
– he likes to be brushed and loves belly rubs!
– Midknight’s next big day is Wednesday…. neutering day! He’ll also get all his vaccinations updated that day. Assuming all goes smoothly and uneventfully, Midknight should be looking for his forever home soon!

Greetings Brookline World!
Midknight has been in his foster home for almost a week now, so we have a few more details to add to his profile!
– Midknight likes his crate. It is left open for him to go in and out of during the day, When we have to leave the house for a little while, he easily goes in with “go in your house”.
– Midknight has been quiet all night long, from about 10:00 – 6:30. The first few nights we crated him, but since then we’ve allowed him to be in the gated kitchen where he sleeps on his big comfy dog bed. We don’t hear him all night!
– He hasn’t chewed on anything he shouldn’t, even though there are shoes next to the back door (which he could chew on if he wanted to)
– He has started to ask to go out, by standing by the back door. Still no accidents in the house!
– We took him on a 2.5 hour car trip to our vacation house. We used a smaller crate (the one that his previous own used), which fit into the back of my SUV. He was a little restless at the start of the trip with a little bit of whining and standing in the crate. But after about 30 minutes or so he settled down and rested quietly for the remainder of the drive.
– The resident cat has allowed him to get close enough for a good sniff and is not as wary now.
– Midknight is still overly enthusiastic about sniffing his foster brother, Archie. Yesterday Archie had a grooming appointment, so of course he came back smelling very differently. Midknight couldn’t stay away from him. Archie escalated his corrections with growling and “yapping”, but Midknight wasn’t deterred. I’m thinking now that he should be an only dog. Of course, after his neutering, the sniffing might be reduced. I will keep you updated on that!
– He has met several more strangers out on walks and was friendly with them. But again, we keep his leash very short so he doesn’t push his nose into a place it doesn’t belong!
– Midknight LOVES his people! We have kept him confined to the kitchen because he is so annoying to Archie, but he really wants to be where we are. He stands on his hind legs, looking over the breakfast bar to see where his peeps are!
– His fecal panel results were all negative – yay!
All for now!

Midknight has been with his foster home for 2 days and we’ve learned enough about him to update his blog!
– First of all, Midknight is a sweetheart! Although he was attached to his original family, he has done surprisingly well adjusting to the new people in his life: a foster mom, foster dad, and 2 grandkids, 7 and 4 years old. He likes to be near us and gets a little anxious if he hears us in another room while he is in the kitchen.
– He doesn’t mind his crate and will go in there to rest periodically. He has slept well in the crate in the kitchen both nights, from 10:00pm – 6:30am.
– He hasn’t had any accidents in the house.
– He is fine with the resident dog, although his overzealous sniffing gets him a correction occasionally. He accepts the correction appropriately. Midknight doesn’t chase a ball, but he will chase the resident dog, who IS chasing the ball! I guess you could call that playing together? Sort of?
– MIdknight‘s nose is his CONTROL CENTER. He came from a city environment, so all the suburban grass, plant, and critter smells in his foster home must be overwhelming for him. He can’t move fast enough to get to everything he wants to smell! I wonder if he has some bloodhound in him? He would probably excel at Nose Work or Tracking classes! One bad habit his nose has caused is he likes to sniff people’s “private parts.” We’re trying to teach him that is a no-no.
– Midknight doesn’t jump up onto people, but he does happy jumps straight up into the air when he’s excited. He also can reach anything left on the counter. We are careful not to leave anything he shouldn’t have on the counters.
– He’s not especially food motivated right now. In fact, we’ve had to add some yummy extras to his kibble.
– He is very handsome with a pretty black coat and adorable white toes on 3 feet. He does have some scaly skin and scabs on his outer ears, which will be seen by a vet this week.
– He has an appointment to be neutered in 2 weeks. He will also have his vaccinations updated.
– He is very interested in the resident cat, but they haven’t gotten too close yet (Kitty is old and Midknight‘s sniffing is a little too enthusiastic…)
– Midknight absolutely loves his walks! We have switched from a harness to a prong collar for him, to save our shoulders from his Olympic level pulling. He’s already getting the message that the human decides the route and the pace of the walk, not his nose. He will definitely need to go to an active home that will commit to his exercise needs!
In summary, Midknight is a very nice dog. He will fit well into a loving, active family that gives him all the exercise and attention he needs, while continuing his training on his manners and leash walking!
