Misty is officially retired! She was spayed on Thursday. Surgery went great and she is doing really well here at home with her recovery. She was a favorite with the nurses and even came home with some cute pictures and her nails painted purple.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Misty had a slight limp in her rear left leg when she came into our care. It doesn’t seem to slow her down and she does not limp all the time, we notice it more when she is really active. While she was sedated, the vet did an orthopedic exam on her and took some x-rays. The vet determined that she probably had a partial tear in her CCL at some point in her life which is now healed, but due to that injury, arthritis is now present and is causing her to limp. (Misty’s right knee and hips look great.) The vet wants her to be on a joint supplement which we will start right away. Surgery is not needed.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Misty is ready to play again but we are doing our best to keep her quiet. That isn’t hard to do since she is such a good girl!  As long as she continues to heal well, she will be available for adoption next week.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Misty continues to learn new things every day. She has discovered how to play with other dogs and she likes it! She has quickly gone from shy farm dog to director of fun and games. Misty now initiates play several times a day, even when the others are sleeping. She loves to run around in the backyard and wrestle in the living room. Misty’s motto is anytime is playtime!  Here are two videos of her playing with the resident dog and one of her playing with our granddog – Misty is the one in the green collar!

Misty enjoys a good sunbath or dip in the pool with her friends after each play session.

She has discovered the joy of a frozen peanut butter Kong and an afternoon nap in the air-conditioned house.

Misty is going to make a wonderful pet for some lucky family!

Misty is a rockstar! She says this living in a house thing is no sweat!Yellow Labrador Retriever

Walking with my doggie friends

Misty had another good night sleeping in a crate in our bedroom. She has mastered the steps and now follows me up and down easily. She eats well, and potty training is also going well. She has only had one accident in the house, and that was the first day, and the foster mom’s fault for not paying attention.

She loves going out for a walk in the neighborhood. She doesn’t pull, but does zig-zag. Since she has probably never been leash trained, this is to be expected. She isn’t scared or reactive to cars or people or dogs – she just trots on by and likes to stick with her pack. We went about 1-1/2 miles this morning in the humidity, and she was a tired pup when we were done, but rallied quickly to follow the college kid around the house as she packed to go back to school. The resident dogs also follow the college kid when she is home, so it was a parade up and down the stairs and around the house all morning. 😂Yellow Labrador Retriever

Waiting for the human foster sister to come back inside

Misty is curious and sometimes tries to pick things up that are not hers, but she listens well to gentle corrections and is easily redirected. She isn’t destructive; she just likes to carry things around. She is learning what she may have and what she cannot. She does watch what the resident dogs do, but just peacefully coexists for now. Kota, the younger resident dog, has tried to get her to play a few times. Misty wags her tail and appears interested, but doesn’t seem to know what to do. Kota has taught many fosters to play, so I think Misty will be running around the yard with Kota in no time.

Misty loves to fetch tennis balls.  Here is a video of her retrieving skills!

Misty, a petite 3.5-year-old cream English Lab, has left her breeding life behind!

Chillin’ in the car

We picked Misty up yesterday and drove 45 minutes to the pet store for a bath. Misty was so good! She just laid quietly in the back seat of the car and then jumped out and walked on leash into the pet store like she had done it a hundred times before.

Bath time!

She needed a little help getting into the tub, but once we got situated, she seemed to enjoy the pampering. After her bath, we drove right to the vet to update her vaccinations. She was the perfect patient and charmed the staff with her sweet, friendly personality.

Waiting for the vet and enjoying the toys

She was super sweet and gentle with everyone. They gave her a complimentary pedicure and ear cleaning because she was such a good girl and easy to handle. After she was vetted, we headed home to have a sniff around the yard and meet the resident dogs. Introductions went well, and Misty had a fun time checking out the backyard and the house. She ate dinner very quickly, so we are using a slow feeder with her.

Her tail didn’t stop wagging until she fell asleep. Poor girl had a very busy day!

Misty was fine with the few steps on and off the back porch, but she did not know what to think of the stairs to our second floor. When it was time for bed, we helped her up the stairs so she could sleep in our bedroom with the other dogs. She slept through the night in our extra-large travel crate, where she could see her foster mom. She was cautious and slow going down the stairs in the morning, but made it with a little encouragement. Misty has already gone back up and down the stairs by herself today. She is a quick study and very food motivated, so she will be easy to train.
