Dori #2 Black Female ID #3641, Bobo #2 Black and White Male ID #3648

Dori and Bobo came into the rescue due to unfortunate circumstances being faced by their owner. Lucky for the family, Dori and Bobo, one of Brookline’s volunteers, was involved and was able to offer placement for these two. They were having to change their living situation but were unfortunately not able to take their beloved dogs with them. There was a beautiful note written to who would be their temporary families (Foster Homes).

What an exciting week for Dori & Bobo. They got their welcome box from volunteers, Taylor and Theresa, who do an amazing job with the goodies our fosters receive.

Bobo and Dori both dove right in. From the squeaky stuffies, to the tug rope, bones and snuggle blankets.

We know how most labs are, and the squeaky toys didn’t last too long. The bones and rope are still big hits though. Sorry our pictures don’t due the excitement justice, or maybe they do, as a number of them are on the blurry side.

Both Dori and Bobo take turns sleeping in and next to our bed. Once it’s lights out, they find a spot and settle quickly.

Bobo is quite the watch dog for the deer in our back yard. We have a sunroom that overlooks the back yard, and he lets everyone know when there’s a deer back there. Working with him to settle down after the initial alert, but it’s a work in progress. Both Bobo and Dori have been known to check out what’s on the counter, and in the garbage, so we’re working on that as well. So far as walking on a leash, it has been so cold here in the Poconos, we have limited there time outside so no real updates on leash manners as of yet.

Because of the counter surfing and garbage interest we are crating them when no one is home. They crate together and came with a massive crate that they both comfortably in. At times when we are home they will retire to the crate of their own accord for a little quiet time.

Both will seek our attention when hanging out in the living room. They will step up on what you’re sitting on to say Hi, or to show you the latest item they are playing with. Of course, they have to be told how nice that item is, they really appreciate it, and are quite proud of their current possession.

We do have an appointment set up for Bobo for his neuter in the beginning of March, so they should be available shortly after that.

Sunday Funday has been kind of quiet here today. We had a late night with our son’s 18th birthday party. Lots of teenagers coming and going and Dori and Bobo enjoyed meeting everyone! The party was down in the basement but both dogs greeted all who entered and tried their darndest to get past the gate to go down and join. Eventually we took them down for the singing of Happy Birthday they basked in all of the attention.

Today we are all kind of couch potatoes and even squeezed in a nap. Black Labrador MixesAll 3 dogs joined in. They all found their spot in bed and we had a nice quiet nap.Black Labrador Mixes Black Labrador MixesBobo has started watching deer from the sunroom. He likes to bark at them. He is also very interested in people walking by and delivery drivers. He’s a very good watch dog. He has a deep bark and I believe he would be a great deterrent to anyone that was thinking about entering uninvited. He continues to be more confident and will go find things to do or places to rest without Dori.  We have not has any accidents in the house and he will come tell us if he needs to go out. He is definitely a lover and will swat at you to get attention. Tomorrow we will be getting his neuter scheduled so we can start moving towards getting adopted.Black Labrador MixesBlack Labrador MixesDori is such a sweet girl. She loves attention and hugs!  She is never far away, even trying to step into the shower in the morning when we are taking our showers.  She loves to show off her “things” bringing toys and bones over to show us. Her tail is always wagging and she is such a chill girl. We have been crating them together in their gigantic crate when no one is home. I watch them on the camera and they are usually sleeping. They like to be touching and are very cute snuggled up.

Once again we are very glad that we decided to take this pair on. You can tell they were loved and spoiled.  They are very low maintenance and will make a great addition to someone’s family.

Oh my stars, these two are adorable! We’ve only had this pair together for a couple days but they have already stolen our hearts.  I was afraid we were going to regret taking on a pair of older dogs but they have really been easy so far. Here’s what we know so far.

Dori. She appears to me mostly Lab and behaves as such. She likes to be close to her people, she is not shy about demanding attention and she is amazingly sweet.  She is mostly a couch potato with an occasional burst of energy…usually when food is involved.  Her paperwork indicated that she followed her brothers lead but I am finding that she is quite independent and can be the instigator of shenanigans. She eats her food nicely, enjoys marrow bones, a peanut butter filled kong and is always up for a belly rub. She has a beautiful shiny coat and a very pretty face.  She listens well but is not above sneaking into the kitchen for a little counter surfing. She has had no accidents in the house and she will hop up in bed at night but seems to prefer sleeping on the floor. She dreams a lot and makes cute little noises when she dreams. On the days I work from home she likes to be under my desk or on the couch behind me. She is a really lovely girl.Black Labrador MixBobo. What a clown this boy is. He is adorable with his frosty face and his white socks. His one floppy ear gives him a slightly goofy look. He is really tall and definitely moves like a shepherd.  This boy does not act like a senior. He is playful running through the house with whatever toy or bone he is currently interested in and will playfully toss it in the air. He is also very affectionate and will park his front end on my lap to get petted.  He loves to have his ears rubbed. He also eats nicely and obeys sit, come and down. He is a trash picker and has figured out how to open the cabinet for a little dumpster diving, He’s also tall enough that counter surfing takes little effort.  He likes to sleep in bed and on occasion slides off the bed.Black Labrador MixWe have been crating them when unsupervised or when we are not home. My first attempt ended with a break out and trash can party so we had to reinforce the locks. I have a camera watching the crate as well.  Bobo has not had any more accidents in the house and I am more aware of his signals that he needs to go out.  They both need to watched to make sure they are not accidentally chewing on non dog items. Both have picked up throw pillows and slippers.Black Labrador MixOverall I am very happy with how this has gone so far. We definitely need to work on manners but these are both really good dogs. Black Labrador MixMy initials concern that we were making a mistake taking on 2 dogs has proved to be unfounded. Instead we have 2 really sweet dogs that are a lot of fun to have around.

Last Saturday night Kevin and I were on our way to meet some friends for dinner. We were discussing that now that the winter break was over, we should start seeing some new dogs coming in to the rescue that needed foster homes. I kind of laughed and told him lucky Dori and Bobo found foster homes because I was not going to let a pair of senior dogs end up in a shelter.  I had been watching and was relieved that they were safe, both going to foster homes.

Monday, we got the first call. Dori was in need of a new foster. The resident dog where she was staying was not happy to have her there and she needed to be transferred.  We talked about it for about 2 minutes and said sure we could take her. Logistics were worked out and she was delivered to Kevin’s work on Tuesday. She was nervous and you could tell she was upset. Understandable after losing her human and canine sibling. She paced and whined the first evening but settled in nicely at bedtime. She tried sleeping in bed but ultimately decided to sleep on the floor next to me. She was eating and going outside to potty, kind of settling in but still upset. She started howling pretty regularly. I joked that she was a Lab/Wolf mix. She would come for petting and treats but something was off. We understand that decompression can take a while and quietly reassured her that everything was going to be okay.  She continued to do okay and then………………

The second call came on Friday. Bobo was not doing well in his home…was displaying signs of anxiety, did some damage after being left alone and was just turning out to be too much for his foster.  This time the discussion was a little more involved. Did we want to take on a second dog? Are these truly new behaviors or are they problem dogs? Are they truly bonded and the separation just too much for them.  So, after a call with Chris, we decided to go ahead with both as long as the supersized crate they were used to could be procured. Kevin went to pick up Bobo on Saturday to beat the impending storm.

The change in both dogs has been nothing short of amazing. Dori is confident, playful, affectionate and loving. She loves playing in the snow, working on her peanut butter filled Kong and laying on the big dog bed chewing bones. She’s a pretty girl and not super big at 77 pounds.  She loves hugs and tushie scratching.

No more howling or pacing. Her boy is here with her and you can tell it made all the difference to her.

Bobo is also confident and a bit more reserved.  He is very regal. Well except for the one floppy ear that makes him look kind of silly. He has had a few accidents in the house and still needs to be neutered. We will be working on that ASAP.  He is very tall and very Shepherd forward. His paperwork lists him as Shepherd, Husky, Lab.  He’s  85 pounds with a lanky build. He likes to be brushed and lays near a person whenever possible.

They have both tried sleeping in bed. I usually have my electric blanket on scorching, so they don’t stay all night but they are quiet and sleep through the night. Tomorrow we will see how they do crate together while Kevin drives me to work if my office actually opens.

We  know that placing 2 older dogs may take a while but we think this pair will be worth it. Stay tuned for more info as we learn more about this super cute pair.
