Abu Chocolate Labrador Retriever Male 1 Year Old

June 2, 2019

Abu is your typical one-year old young chocolate lab. He is a gorgeous blockhead with big beautiful eyes and a soft coat. Chocolate Labrador RetrieverHe is a super friendly and smart guy who loves his people and wants to be with them all the time. The owner currently has an electric fence for Abu, but he learned about a month ago how to get past the signal by jumping over it and will take off after rabbits and squirrels or will just go for a leisurely stroll on his own. He always comes back to his home, but as a result Abu would do best in a home where he can run around freely in large space with a physical fence.

Abu is currently crated during the work day and sleeps in his crate at night. He does well in the crate, but he does get a bit bored sometimes so he will need some mental stimulation if he is crated in his forever home. When he comes out of the crate or first meets new people in the home, he is full of energy as to be expected and jumps up on people. He will mouth a little bit, but he has the gentlest mouth I have ever experienced, and I honestly would not really call it mouthing. He does tire himself out pretty quickly after about 15-30 minutes of hyperness and running around and will lay at your feet for belly rubs. He has had some training and knows basic command and is very treat-motivated and smart.  He does pull like a freight train on the leash and will absolutely need a harness and some work on his leash behavior.

Abu loves all dogs he meets. Even though he is an only dog, he goes to the local dog park and he visits with his canine relatives and he gets along well with them. He is mostly curious and just wants to play with other dogs no matter their size. He has met a cat at the owner’s relative’s home and he barked at it but then when the cat swiped her paw at his face he immediately backed off and took the cat’s cues. Abu would be fine in either a home with a resident dog or not. Cats are still a bit of an unknown as he does have a high prey drive even though he learned quickly to follow the cat’s cues.

Abu loves everyone he meets and immediately wants to be friends. He currently lives with a teenage boy, and he would do best in a home with school-age kids or older. It is probably best he does not live with younger kids due to the potential knockdown factor when he is excited and jumping.
