Ace #4 Black Labrador Retriever Mix Male 6 Weeks Old ID#2894

black labrador retriever mixAce came into Brookline’s care on 11/26/2020 as part of Nora’s litter when she started to give birth around 2am in her foster home.  Ace was the last to be born in those early morning hours of Thanksgiving around 4am.  He was the second smallest weighing in on 11/28 at 15.9 oz.  Please read his blog from the bottom up to learn more about him.

black labrador retriever mixAce is now six weeks old and growing big!  He is the tallest pup and is tied for the heaviest pup with Bianca at 10.9 lbs.  The puppies are too big to weigh on the table top weigh scale so now I weigh them on a regular scale while I am holding them.  All the puppies got their dewormer on December 30, and have been doing well.  They get another dose next Wednesday, and will be going for their 8 week vaccinations on January 22.

Ace is the quiet one out of the bunch, though he does enjoy his playtime.  We have been letting the pups explore different surfaces, like wood, tile, carpet and rubber flooring.  Ace wasn’t too excited about exploring outside of the pen initially.  He’s still a little unsure about the wood and tile and climbs right up on a lap if there is one available.  Down in the gym, Ace was more comfortable on the rubber flooring, and it didn’t take long for him to start exploring, playing and running around with his siblings.

Ace really likes to be held and get belly scratches and will come running when someone calls.  He loves to play with the crinkly, long legged bear toy, mini tennis balls, the plastic ball with a bell in it, and the chew toys (rubber keys and nylabone).

Five weeks old!

black labrador retriever mixWell, it seems that Ace has certainly been enjoying his gruel, and all the eating is packing the pounds on this little guy. He has gone from one of our smallest to the biggest pup in the litter at 6lbs, 13oz! Ace is the most labby looking of the litter, and has super soft fur.

black labrador retriever mixAce is very laid back most of the time.  Because of this, Ace still is the victim of sibling sucking by his sister’s Frankie and Eliza.  However, he is starting to throw his weight around, and has gotten quite rambunctious in his play.

He loves his chew toys and pouncing on siblings. Ace plays hard and then sleeps hard!  He’s not much of a complainer, and waits patiently for his food, and playtime with his people. He was a good sport at our Christmas photo shoot and relaxed under the tree.

black labrador retriever mixAce is now 3 weeks and 3 days.  Ace continues to be a sweet little boy.  For some reason, all his siblings really enjoy sucking on this guy when they start to get hungry.

black labrador retriever mixAce doesn’t seem to care and just sits there so we have started to scruff the offenders (usually Frankie and Penny) to get them to stop bothering him or we give him some time alone to get a break from it. All of the pups are starting to get teeth now so I don’t think it can feel to comfortable.

Ace is starting to play.  He stomp his front feet and try to get others to play with him.  When there are no takers, he plays with the balls or bites on a chew toy.  Ace also likes to rearrange the blankets and pull them around.

Now, he always can be found snuggled up with a sibling or a stuffy, or wedged between blankets or on the soft dog bed.  He enjoys being held and gives gentle kisses to us all.

black labrador retriever mixThis adorable pup was born very early morning Thanksgiving day (11/26/2020) to my foster Nora along with his five sisters and one brother.  I’ll never forget their birthday since it is my birthday too! We decided we would name the pups from our cartoon shows and movies. Ace was named Ace after the character on Lilo and Stitch but also because when we were naming our two resident black labs, the three choices were Jet, Max and Ace.  We voted and Jet and Max were the winners.  My husband really liked the name Ace so now we have one.

Ace is a sweet little boy.  He started out as our second smallest pup weighing only 15.9 oz but is a great eater and is catching up quickly to the other pups.  He is the third heaviest pup at 1lb 15 3/8oz.
