Blue #5 Yellow Labrador Retriever Male 10 Years Old #3566
Meet Blue! He is a 10 yo handsome, playful and affectionate boy. Blue’s owner was moved to nursing care, and Blue was left outside with a cut open bag of food which molded over time, and no access to clean water. Thanks to a compassionate neighbor, Brookline was contacted to help Blue and to get him out of the scorching heat and his dire situation. Blue is now safe and in a foster home. Please read his blog to learn more about him while in foster care.

Yesterday was Blue’s best day yet. No accidents, he is signaling when he wants to go out. He paces then heads to the door. You have to keep an eye because you might think he is just nervous. He is eating all his food no grazing. He is having short interactions with Mabel and Sadie to get treats.
Mabel and Sadie are being so good keeping a distance while he recovers. When the three are together, they are gentle with a few sniffs. Looking forward to them being able to fully interact and play and take walks together. He loves playing with his toys, he does not chew anything in the house.
He is doing so well he is ready to find his forever home soon. He is a sweet soul who will need love and snuggles to help settle and feel safe in his new home.
Continued training and support will be important to get him to where he needs to be. He’s about there now but consistency will be essential. Blue is smart, sweet, but needs to build his confidence for all he has been thru. I think once he’s playing with our dogs taking long walks, we will see him grow even more. 💙

Blue had a great day. You can tell he’s starting to feel like his old self. He wants to play and spotted some rabbits and squirrels that got his attention. He did not go after them but was alert watching them. He continues to do great with house breaking. He thrives with scheduled walks. He sleeps thru the night and wakes up without any accidents. He is eating great. More and more. Hoping he puts a few pounds on. He was very nervous when he arrived, he is more settled but when going to his forever home he will need to have a period of adjustment to feel safe in his new surroundings. He has been thru a lot. He is so sweet. He loves to follow me around to see what I’m up to. He checks in with our dogs and they all want to play but we are still in recovery mode. Things will be so much more fun when the three of them can start to play. Blue is just a sweet loving happy dog who wants to be part of the family and be with his people. 💙

It has been a week since Blue’s surgery and he doing great. He is eating much better. Finishing his food not grazing that much anymore.
He is eager to get out to play and take longer walks and play with Mabel and Sadie but another week and he will be good to go.
He continues to sleep thru the night no accidents. Being in a house is a big transition since he spent a good part of his life outdoors. He is doing well with house breaking but he will need continued training when he arrives in his furever home as well.
With continued love, patience and guidance and treats he will build great confidence and do great. We are very proud of him and his progress. What a sweetheart💙

I’m so proud of Blue. He is doing great with house breaking. His regular scheduled walks are going really well. All this while he is still recovering from his surgery. Blue has the greatest energy sweet and kind just wants to be with his people. He listens well and knows sit and stay. He is getting more settled now the last two nights sleep all thru the night with his collar on a dog bed. I’m still sleeping in the room with him but once we are totally confident with the house breaking, he will be fine. We are still using the belly bands to assist with the training as well. And most importantly he is eating great. I am mixing his dry food with his wet and some rice. He was grazing but I just sit on floor with him and cox him to eat more
and he will finish the bowl. He takes treats very gently. He is a sweetheart 💙

Day 2 was much better. Blue was a little less nervous. We put him in the crate to keep him more still. This did help. We gave him lick pads and puzzles to pull focus and try to keep him still. He’s really wants to play and roam around. Bell bands are working their miracles. He is eating his wet food really well and taking lots of treats and peanut butter toast. When he had surgery, they did take X-rays and he has arthritis in his legs and spine. We are hoping with good nutrition, some supplements and appropriate exercise we can get that better as well. Honestly, he has great energy and wants to participate with our pups too. He had a great night I sleep down in the living room with him. He sleep on a dog bed right by my sofa and sleep from 10:30PM to 6:00 AM. He stirred a few times but stayed still and no accidents. Today we are back to work. I work from home so we have a camera so I can watch him and I’ve been taking him out every hour. Trying to get him on a good schedule and working on getting him used to the house and housebroken. He is so sweet, loving, and smart.

We picked up Blue yesterday. Blue is sweet and snuggly and was so great on the ride home.
It was a little over an hour and considering he was neutered on Friday he took the ride like a champ. As expected, he is very nervous. when we got home, he was panting and pacing.
We gated him in the living room so he has his own space. He was very sweet with our two resident dogs. They met briefly and then we spent the day with him in the living room helping him decompress. He is very curious and wants to explore. Also, we need to work on house breaking. He has not been in a home for a long time. We have been using Belly bands to help keep him from peeing inside and gently correcting when he tries. The belly bands have been amazing. Last night we put him in the crate to help him settle he was in need of some sleep. He did great. He was not happy at first but settled nicely and got some much-needed sleep. I slept in the living room with him. He woke up about 3:30 AM. I took him outside he went and then I put his bed right by the couch and laid down and went to sleep. Blue is very skinny and needs to gain weight. He grazes his food does not eat the whole serving at meal time. He did not eat but would eat plenty of treats. You can tell he is hungry. This morning, when I fed him he ate only the wet food, so I put it in a separate bowl and he ate it up. So, for now I’m leaving dry food for him to graze and wet for meal time with plenty of treats and oh he loves peanut butter. Taking his meds great with it. Right know he is napping taking a break from his neck pillow for a bit.

I had the pleasure of having Blue at our house for a few hours on 8/9. He was a lover from the moment I stepped in BCK to meet him. He was excited to see me and did a perfect sit and offered lots of licks. His default behavior when excited is a ‘sit’! He was hesitant to get in my car, so I did need to lift him up, but he’s not too heavy (needs to gain some weight), so it was easy to lift him into the back seat. He did great with the seatbelt and spent most of his time looking out the front window while we were driving and then at some point he laid down and relaxed.
Next, he met my 3 resident dogs. He was a perfect guest and a bit submissive. This boy will do great with other dogs in the house for his forever home. We played a game of fetch, and he loved it. He retrieves the ball and releases it nicely. He also takes treats gently. After that, he met our cats. When he saw the 1st cat, he barked, as it seems he has not met a cat before. Once he was able to sniff the cat, all was good. He was kind and gentle. He definitely will do well with cats in the home. He had no instinct to chase them. Blue enjoyed following me around. He so very much just wants to give and receive love! This boy is a gem! Unfortunately, our family is going on vacation, so it was just a short visit at this time. This sweetheart will do well in almost any situation! We hope to see him again soon.

Blue took a visit to the house and had a great time exploring. He was excited and very curious, exploring everything. He did not try to get up on any of the furniture or counters, and didn’t have any accidents while he was there. Blue is such a good boy!
Blue also met a new little friend, Willow! Blue certainly loves his canine buddies.
Willow loved playing chase with Blue. She is only 5.5 months so she’s got plenty of energy. It’s so cute how excited he gets when he gets to play with other dogs.

Blue is settling in well at Kamp. I introduced Blue to Bear and they did great together!
Blue was very curious and sniffed Bear all over. He then let Bear sniff him.
Once we got out into the grass yard, they ran around together exploring and sniffing.

Blue was very happy to make a new friend!

Blue is reported to be a super sweet boy, and very, very affectionate. The staff at Canine Kamp think he’s trying to make up for lost time since he was starved for attention for quite a long time.
He is good on leash. He’s gone on a couple of walks and he just wanders around exploring and sniffing, barely pulling on the leash.
He is also been very quiet, and easy-going about being in the kennel, even though he has lots of doggie neighbors.
He has been keeping his kennel run clean. Although he’s been drinking lots of water, he’s been doing a fantastic job holding it until he’s let out in the yard which he also loves to run around in and explore.

Blue LOVES his toys too!
Stay tuned for more updates as we learn more about this resilient guy!
