Charlie Goes on Vacation

This week, Charlie traded in the Philadelphia city streets for the quiet charm of the South—hello, South Carolina! We packed up the car and made the drive down, and Charlie was a total champ the whole way. He’s always loved car rides, and this road trip was no exception, ears flopping, eyes bright, and tail gently wagging as he soaked in the changing scenery.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Arriving in the suburbs for the Fourth of July holiday, Charlie embraced vacation mode like a pro. He enjoyed lazy afternoons in the backyard, grill outs with new human and dog friends, and even a few poolside hangs (he didn’t swim, but he looked regal lounging nearby). Yellow Labrador RetrieverWith fireworks in the air and laughter around the patio, Charlie remained calm, gentle, and curious about all the excitement.

He met kids, dogs of all temperaments, and plenty of new adults, and charmed every one of them. Charlie has this peaceful, affectionate presence that makes everyone feel at ease, even the more “high-maintenance” pups who came and went during the celebrations. He happily sniffed around the yard, investigated new toys, and joined in for neighborhood walks, adapting quickly to his new routine and space.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Despite being in a new environment, Charlie was completely at home. Whether he was relaxing in the shade, greeting guests with tail wags, or sharing quiet moments with his foster family, he showed just how adaptable, and lovable he really is.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Today, Charlie makes his way back to Philadelphia, where he’ll visit the vet one last time for his final shots. After that, he’ll be officially ready for adoption, healthy, healed, and filled with love to give.

This vacation showed us even more of Charlie’s amazing personality: flexible, sweet, playful, and so incredibly loyal. Whoever opens their heart and home to Charlie will be getting a true gem.

Cookies, Car Rides & Cuddles – Life with Charlie

Charlie continues to be the perfect foster companion—calm, cuddly, and full of love. These past few days have been packed with little adventures and big moments, all of which show just how special he really is.

Let’s start with one of Charlie’s favorite activities: car rides. Whether it’s heading to the park or to a vet appointment, Charlie rides like a seasoned traveler—relaxed, smiling, and always eager to look out the window (or curl up for a nap). yellow Labrador RetrieverAfter his recent neuter surgery, he was overjoyed to see his foster dad pick him up. That happy tail wag and bright-eyed grin said it all—this dog loves his people deeply.

Speaking of recovery, Charlie has been doing exceptionally well. He bounced back with ease, never letting it dampen his spirits. He’s back to his walks (up to 5 miles if we’re feeling adventurous!) but is equally content with a short stroll—as long as he’s by your side and getting those well-earned pets.

Charlie’s also been on a cookie crusade lately. We’ve visited the pet store a few times over the past couple of weeks, and he’s sampled some of the cutest and tastiest treats around—pineapples, owls, ladybugs, you name it! He lights up with joy every time he sees a cookie coming his way.

Beyond the treats and car trips, Charlie’s been showing his social side too. He’s friendly with other dogs, tolerant of other animals, and absolutely wonderful with children.Labrador Retriever and dogs While his hearing isn’t perfect—likely due to past ear hematomas—he’s incredibly smart and responsive, especially when you make eye contact. That gaze of his can melt just about anyone.

And when the day winds down? Charlie becomes a cuddle champion. Whether it’s curling up in his cozy bed or gently resting his head in your lap on the couch, he makes sure you know how grateful he is to be safe, warm, and loved.

Each day with Charlie reveals more of his gentle, goofy, affectionate personality. He’s been through a lot, but you’d never know it from his joy, resilience, and the love he so freely gives. Whoever gets to be Charlie’s forever family is in for a real treat.

A Morning at the Museum with Charlie

Today was another beautiful day with Charlie, our lovable senior foster pup. The morning started early with Charlie enthusiastically trotting to the door, tail wagging, eyes bright, and clearly ready for his favorite activity—his walk.

We took a scenic route today, making our way to the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Charlie soaked in the culture the best way he knows how: through sniffing every corner, bush, and pathway along the way. You could see the joy in his step as he proudly strutted past the Rocky Balboa statue, completely unfazed by the tourists but always happy to greet any passing pup with a friendly wag.

Despite his age, Charlie doesn’t let anything slow him down. We walked nearly 3 miles this morning, and he kept up like a champ! To protect his paws from the pavement, Charlie wore his stylish little booties—he might be a senior, but his gear is top-notch. He gets quite a few smiles and compliments from fellow walkers, and he seems to enjoy the attention.

After our museum loop and a quick stop at the fountains (where Charlie posed like a natural for some adorable photos), we made our way back home. There, Charlie happily devoured his breakfast and curled up next to me for some well-earned cuddles. His gentle, affectionate nature truly shines during these quiet moments.

Charlie is the perfect mix of adventure and affection. He’s got the heart of a puppy with the soul of a wise old friend, and every day with him is a gift.

Meet Charlie!Yellow Labrador Retriever

Charlie has quite the story- with a happy ending!

On May 31, a Brookline foster volunteer got a call from her local pet shop in Conshohocken (Ruh Roh’s Pet Shoppe-they’re amazing!). The manager has hosted Brookline events before and knew we had a heart for labs. A woman came into the pet shop and surrendered Charlie because she could not take care of him anymore. Even though the pet shop does not do this, he had a big heart for labs and couldn’t say no. Charlie immediately latched on to the manager, got lots of treats and attention. People, cats, and dogs were all over the shop, and Charlie didn’t care one bit. He was so excited to meet a new friend. When the volunteer from Brookline came to see Charlie, he was kind and sweet. He let her evaluate him, and he even let her give him a bath!Yellow Labrador Retriever Charlie stayed the night with her, and he got to meet another Brookline Foster (Seamus) and her cat!Yellow Labrador Retriever

Then, Charlie went to the vet and got evaluated and thrived! He loved the belly scratches, and they made up for all the poking and prodding.

Charlie got some vaccines and tested positive for Lyme and a yeast ear infection. The vet thinks he is about 9 years old. After some antibiotics and a check-up, Charlie made his way to his foster dad’s home! Charlie landed in the best possible place he could to find a loving home- Brookline Lab Rescue! Stay tuned for Charlie’s adventures–an older pup with a puppy’s spirit! Welcome to Brookline, Charlie!
