Chewy #2 Chocolate Labrador Retriever Male 2 Years Old ID#3431

Chocolate Labrador RetrieverMeet Chewy!  This handsome boy was brought to ACCT Philly with his dog friend after their owner abandoned them in an apartment.  His dog friend was adopted from the shelter quickly. The shelter environment was tough on this sweet boy but Brookline was able to find a foster home for Chewy and sprung him from the shelter!  Please ready Chewy’s blog from the bottom up to learn more about his time in foster care.

Chewy Is Still Waiting…
Chewy is past “last call” with no applications—but we’re not giving up on this incredible boy. We’ll keep sharing his journey and hoping the right family sees the gentle, goofy, loving companion he truly is.Chocolate Labrador Retriever mixPlease consider Chewy when you’re looking—or when your friends and family are looking—for a loyal, snuggly new best friend.

Today’s big adventure was a trip to PetSmart, and Chewy showed off some serious nose work skills—he even tracked down his own brand of kibble like a pro! Maybe there’s a future in search and rescue? 🐾

We walked past the cat section and Chewy just gave a curious sniff before moving along—

Back at home, he loves to snuggle up with our dogs. In fact, he blends in so well on our chocolate-colored couch that we often find ourselves looking around for him… only to realize he’s quietly sitting right behind us, watching us and wondering who we are looking for!Chocolate Labrador Retriever mix

Chewy really is something special. Smart, affectionate, and always up for a new experience. We just know the right family is out there

Chewy had his vet recheck and has been cleared for regular activities again—he’s feeling great and ready to play! Hooray!

And play he does! Chewy absolutely loves romping around with our resident dogs or just entertaining himself chasing a tennis ball around the kitchen island.Chocolate Labrador RetrieverHe’s got that ideal blend of youthful energy and easygoing charm— just happy to be included in the fun. 🐶💕Chocolate Labrador RetrieverOne of the most touching moments this week was at our son’s Miracle League baseball game. Chewy came along and proved, once again, what a gentle soul he is. One of the players took a special interest in him, and Chewy stood so patiently and sweetly, soaking up every pet and hug. It was a truly beautiful moment that showed just how kind and steady this young dog really is.

We often find ourselves wondering what Chewy went through before being rescued—he carries himself with such quiet grace and resilience, and then joyfully tosses a toy hedgehog in the air and lets rip for a mad five minutes of zoomies.

And to top off the week, Chewy had his very first bath since healing up—he was the best boy and only opened the shower door once (we will call that a win!!). After drying off, his coat looked absolutely stunning—soft, shiny, and snuggle-ready. He even got his nails trimmed at the vet—talk about a full spa treatment!Chocolate Labrador RetrieverChewy wants to please and be part of a family he has learnt so much in just 2 weeks with us and will make his forever family a happy, super smart companion.

It’s been a quiet week for Mr. Chewy. He’s been on leash duty all week, which has really improved his focus on the human at the other end.

How do you know your foster dog is improving on walks?

Easy: You only have to untangle the leash from half the mailboxes, fire hydrants, and signposts compared to last week. Progress!Chocolate Labrador RetrieverChewy’s been a champ with his antibiotics—no drama, just gobbles them right up like treats.

His incision looks great, and the head-shaking from his ear infection has stopped, so we’re hopeful everything’s healing up nicely.Chocolate Labrador RetrieverRecheck at the vet coming up and hopefully Chewy will be released back to regular activities.Chocolate Labrador RetrieverChewy is the sweetest young man and has quickly learnt so much.He  now comes to find me to give one  bark and tell me he needs to go out .

He gets so excited when he realizes  that you know what he was asking – super cute.

Chewy had his vet visit today and weighed in at 55 pounds so lots of yummy food in his future.Chocolate Labrador RetrieverUnfortunately after being neutered at the shelter he has an infection which requires antibiotics and restricted activity. He also has an ear infection, so the same antibiotic is treating that with the addition of some drops.Chocolate Labrador RetrieverHe was a very good boy at the vet just a bit squiggly, but they were able to get all the tests done with no problems and he gave them kisses after they had finished.  Chewy’s heart worm and 4DX came back negative great news. Chocolate Labrador RetrieverHe was good  in the car, I clipped his harness to a seatbelt latch and he stayed put for the journey. So some quiet days ahead for Chewy, but all for a healthy, happy future.

Chewy has been with us for just three days, and he’s already starting to settle in and learn the rhythms of our home. Chocolate Labrador RetrieverAt night, Chewy sleeps peacefully in his crate with the door closed, and since moving the crate up to our room, everyone’s been enjoying a much better night’s sleep!

Yesterday, he went on two walks and did great—he really seems to enjoy exploring the neighborhood and taking in all the new smells.

Chewy also loves a good game of fetch with his tennis balls, and he often picks a nylabone from our dog’s massive collection to chew on contentedly. It’s amazing how he seems to know what’s okay to chew and what isn’t—he must have had some guidance in the past.Chocolate Labrador RetrieverHouse training is coming along nicely for day three! We’re staying consistent with letting him out regularly, and it’s making a big difference.

Chewy is also drinking  less now—maybe he’s starting to realize that he doesn’t have to worry anymore. He has fresh water available all day and is slowly learning that he’s in a safe, loving place where he doesn’t need to fend for himself.

He’s a smart, sweet boy and we’re already so proud of how well he’s adjusting!Chocolate Labrador RetrieverVet visit tomorrow we will let you know how he does.

We’re excited to introduce Mr. Chewy, a 2-year-old chocolate Lab with a sweet personality and a heart full of potential.

Chewy came from ACCT Philly, where the shelter environment was starting to take a toll on him.

Thankfully, a temporary Brookline foster home stepped up and gave him a safe place to land for a few days before he made his way to us on Saturday. Chocolate Labrador RetrieverWe’re so grateful to them — and Amy had some great tips to share even after just a short time with him.

Chewy did well on the car ride over, happily relaxing in the back with Chris and handing out kisses. Meeting our dogs — and Lexi, who’s back for another stay — went smoothly. A little frisky at first, but he settled in quickly.

Chocolate Labrador RetrieverHe’s very friendly and affectionate. Amy mentioned (and we agree) that Chewy needs to learn not to jump up on people, but he’s eager to please and clearly hasn’t had much training before. He’s already learning the ropes.

His coat is shiny and healthy-looking, and apart from needing to gain a few pounds, you’d never guess he was living on the street. Chocolate Labrador RetrieverOne very helpful Amy tip: keep an eye on the water bowl. Chewy will drink as much as he can get, which means he also needs to go out frequently. He’s had a few accidents here, so he’s wearing a belly band and getting lots of potty breaks while we help him adjust.

Chewy is recovering from his neuter surgery and is still a bit swollen, so he’s on medication and we’ll be checking in with the vet to make sure all is healing as it should down there.

He has free access to a crate and has gone in on his own for naps a few times.

His first night was a little restless — I stayed with him, and he went back and forth between the crate and lying next to me. It’s all new, so we’ll give him time to settle.

Mark took him for a walk today — Chewy walks well on leash with just a bit of pulling, but he’s easy to guide. He notices squirrels but doesn’t chase them, which is always a plus!

He’s got a healthy appetite (maybe a little too enthusiastic) and eats from a raised bowl. Chocolate Labrador RetrieverLike all the fosters we have had Chewy dance/walks backwards in front of you when you are putting the bowl down for him! With Lexi here doing the same thing it is quite a circus.

We’re looking forward to getting to know Chewy more each day. He’s already made a great start, and we’ll keep you posted on his progress!

Despite his name Chewy is not a chewer!!
