Cody #15 Yellow Labrador Retriever Male 2 Years Old #3559
Meet Cody! This very handsome almost 2yr old boy was surrendered to Brookline by his breeder. Cody’s hip radiographs did not pass OFA certification and therefore he could not be used for breeding. He is a big goofy boy who is learning how to live in a home instead of a kennel. Cody is very loveable, playful and entertaining!!!

This loveable boy is ready to find his forever home. Cody has become more confident and relaxed living in a home environment. He’s always enjoying new experiences instead of being cautious about them. We went for a walk at nearby Promenade shops last evening and he walked up to strangers to get a pet. He also went into a few stores and navigated the automatic door opening and closing without panicking. I think Llbean was his favorite because he got a treat.
Cody does love the company of other dogs and would enjoy a home with a buddy. He also loves to run and being on restricted leash walks since his neuter surgery has led to a few zoomies in the house. A firm NO and he stops.
If you’re looking for a loveable gentle giant, this is your boy!

Cody continues to be a big goofy boy. His exuberance as he runs through the yard is fun to watch. He doesn’t always pay attention to what’s in his path so there have been minor collisions with items in the yard. Cody enjoys going for walks and gets so excited when I say “let’s go for a walk”. We are working on not bursting out the door. He walks well on a gentle leader only pulls if he sees another animal but responds to “leave it”.Housebreaking has improved tremendously!! He’s only had one accident in the last 5 days and that was my fault. He signals by going to the door but he doesn’t make a noise so if you aren’t paying attention and I was on a phone call and not paying attention.
Cody lets me brush his teeth, clean his ears, brush him and cut his nails. The nail cutting should probably be a 2 person job because he turned it into a wrestling match with lots of face kisses.
He has learned that dog beds are more comfortable than the floor and he likes PB on lick mats. He knows come, stay, leave it but “sit” is still a work in progress. Cody will be neutered 4/28 and will be ready for his new home once he’s healed. He will be a great addition to any family, he’s so sweet and loveable…and very entertaining.

Cody continues to be such a big love bug! He met one of our young neighbor girls who always comes up to my dogs for kisses, she was so excited to meet Cody and the feeling was mutual. He gave her lots of kisses while she giggled.
We had a vet appointment yesterday and Cody was a great patient! Everyone commented on how sweet he is and they also said he is very strong!! They may have had a wrestling match drawing his blood when they took him in the back. Cody weighs 97lbs!Cody had his first rail trail walk and did very well walking with a gentle leader. He enjoyed greeting people that came up for pets. He was a little leery of a guy who jogged past us. He stopped walking and watched him go by and then we were able to start walking again.
There has been good progress in housebreaking. Cody has started to signal by going to the door. If one of my dogs doesn’t go out with him then he just stands on the deck looking in so I go out with him. I still put the male wrap on him during the day but overnight in the crate and he’s fine without.
Cody is good for car rides! He will get in on his own if my dogs are in the car. If they’re not along , I climb in the back and he follows me in and then I get out the other side, close that door, tell him to stay and run around and close the door on the other side. I’m sure the people watching in the parking lot at the Vet office were entertained. We’re looking forward to clear skies because he loves to be outdoors and running and playing in the yard or going for a walk.

Cody is a gorgeous large yellow male with a big blockhead!!! He’s not quite 2 yrs old. He’s basically a 105lb puppy!!! Cody loves to give kisses!!! He doesn’t realize his own size and not familiar with living in a house so bumps into doorways, furniture and you if you’re not paying attention. Cody is learning that you don’t get into trouble chewing on bones like you do when you get caught with a sneaker in your mouth. He does respond to correction very quickly, a firm NO stops him. Cody chases balls and loves to run after or be chased by another dog. My neighbor came with their 2yr old golden last evening and Mosely and Cody had a great time running together. Jim texted me a picture 10min after they got home showing Mosely sound asleep and Cody was flat out at my feet. It’s wonderful to see how dogs can just meet and get along and be joyful!!
Cody was very happy and excited to meet my dogs and has been learning to follow their lead. He is a very strong boy and can be a champion puller on leash if he sees a squirrel but otherwise he will walk in line with my 2 dogs or back next to me which is great so I can walk all 3 together. We have gone for several walks through our neighborhood between rain showers and he is doing good on a martingale collar. Cody was interested in chasing my 2yr old cat when he first saw her and she does run because she likes a good game of chase but a firm NO and he stopped. He then met the 4yr old cat who does not run but will puff up and hiss and Cody just walked away without any correction from me. In less than 48hrs the cats and him are good together, the younger cat actually came up and rubbed her head in his chest this morning and he just sniffed her.
I am very thankful for male wraps!!! Housebreaking is going to be a work in progress. Also, thankful for Amazon and one day delivery because the Xlarge male wraps were a little snug so needed to get 2X. Because Cody is a big puppy and everything is fun to him, he thinks I am playing with him while trying to get the male wrap on him. It would be a funny video watching me wrestle him until I have it in place. Luckily I have years of experience wrestling with big dogs and large animals trying to get them to do something they don’t necessarily want done. It’s also hard not to be laughing while I am trying to get it on him because he’s not only bouncing around but licking my face every chance he gets.Cody goes into the crate at night with a little coaxing and treat. The first night he didn’t make a sound but last night he started whimper about 2hrs into the night and so took him out. I put him back in and he barked for the first time but again “NO” and he stopped and is quiet until I get up at 6am. He has been eating with a little coaxing. He takes treats gently. He really is a gentle giant!! He’s like a big teddy bear!!!
