Dakota #12 Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 1 Year Old #3700

Yellow Labrador RetrieverMeet Dakota!  Dakota is an adorable, and super sweet 15 month old purebred Labrador who was surrendered by her owners.  They really loved Dakota but they just didn’t have enough time in the day to care for all of Dakota’s needs with work, school and three children under the age of 5.  The owners wanted Dakota to get more attention than they could currently provide and reached out to Brookline for help.  Please read Dakota’s blog from the bottom up to learn more about her while in foster care.

Dakota has started to settle in over the past few days. She is doing very well with her black lab foster brother and he is slowly teacher her how to play with him. Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe has been very interested in the cats but has not shown any aggression towards them. She is a total velcro dog and is learning that all the pets in the house get to have snuggle time with mom. Dakota is a champion food snatcher and counter surfer so we are staying on our toes when any food is out. We are also working on housetraining and are trying to learn her signals for when she needs to potty. She is doing well with going into her crate, and although she does bark a bit while in there, she’s making improvements each day. Dakota loves the kids and will follow them around if foster mom is doing work and not paying enough attention to her. Yellow Labrador RetrieverAt bedtime she likes to climb up to bed and squeeze herself in between foster mom and dad, usually sleeping halfway on someones head! Yellow Labrador RetrieverThis goofy girl is smart and food motivated so we know she will quickly learn her manners!

Today, I picked up the ever so sweet and super friendly OS Dakota.  She is a petite girl weighing in at only 51lbs.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe was excellent at the vet yesterday.  There was about 6 other dogs in the waiting room with us and she was friendly with them all but was much more interested in saying “Hello” to everyone who walked by her.  She was also a staff favorite. They said she was great when they took blood for the 4DX testing and when getting a pedicure in the back.  She took her vaccinations and chipping like a champ.  When we were done she of course had to say “Goodbye” to everyone!Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe rode really well in the car on our 30 min trip to meet her foster at Neshaminy State Park.  Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador RetrieverWe got there about 1/2 hour before our scheduled meet time so we took a 1.75 mi walk.  We were by the river and she happily waded around in a nice sandy spot.  Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador RetrieverThe walk went well, she loved sniffing all the new smells on the trail and again she wanted to say hello to each person that passed us on the lovely shaded paths around the park.Yellow Labrador RetrieverRight before her foster got there we stopped at a water spigot and she had no problem drinking right from the tap. When her foster arrived, Dakota happily walked up to meet her, and had no problem jumping right in her car for the ride home!

I predict this little sweetheart will be popular!!  Stay tuned for more updates!!
