Dolly #2 Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 5 Months Old ID#3448

Yellow Labrador RetrieverMeet Dolly!  Dolly is an adorable yellow Labrador from Mississippi.  Dolly and her 4 siblings came into Brookline through the help of one of our rescue volunteers who was notified that the pup’s owner was seeking good adoptive homes for the litter but had been unable to do so on their own.  Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about her while in foster care.

Dolly has had a great couple of days she now sleeps in our room at night in her crate from 11pm  to 6 am and actually only gets up then because we do.

Today Dolly had a vet visit for check up.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe weighed in at 34 pounds.

The vet thought she could do with gaining a few pounds which Dolly was delighted to hear.Yellow Labrador RetrieverHe gave her a glowing report praising her soft shiny coat and lovely teeth. She didn’t even flinch when he trimmed her dew claws what a brave girl!

Since she’s only had a couple of car rides so far we will be taking her on some short fun rides to help her feel more comfortable with car travel.

Dolly is very active during the day, in and out of the house running like a greyhound.

She loves to be off leash in our fenced yard its lovely to see her free spirit.

In the evenings she is content to curl up on the couch and cuddle until it’s time for the last walk of the day.Yellow Labrador RetrieverOn walks she walks beautifully when she’s alone but her competitive streak kicks in when walking with our dogs and she pulls a little.Yellow Labrador RetrieverDolly also has a funny quirk: she loves sneaking off with slippers or garden boots! We’ll catch her darting past with one in her mouth, its best to retrieve them quickly before she nibbles the soles!

As for manners Dolly quickly learnt  “sit”and “wait”  we are still working on keeping those little paws off the counter!

She’s curious about what we are eating and tries to sneak a taste! another work in progress.  She’s a just puppy!.

She still eats very quickly but adding water to her food has slowed her down enough that our dogs can finish their food before she goes to check if they got something more delicious than she did!

Overall Dolly has become comfortable in a home amazingly quickly its as if she has always been here.

Dolly will quickly come to love her forever family as they encourage her to be the perfect little lady she has shown us she is destined to become.

Miss Dolly had another good night slept from 11 to 6 in the crate straight out to be busy and back for breakfast.

She was a bit nervous on our first walk around the block but soon realized it was fun to sniff! She  met the neighbors who thought she would be a popular pup and all commented on  her silky soft fur.

House training is going well she needs to go out after playing, sleeping or if something exciting happens! So frequently!Yellow Labrador RetrieverDolly hasn’t learnt to do her business on her walks yet so after a walk it’s straight out to the  backyard to pee. That will come with time as walks become more routine.

She loves to play fetch and drops the toy back at you feet. She is  getting very good at controlling the slide to retrieve the toy on the slippery floors!

Speeding around the backyard is the best, our resident dogs and all humans  quickly get out of the way as Dolly is directionally challenged when zooming!

Watching football yesterday turned into the first snuggle time with our dogs which was lovely to see, maybe because the Eagles were not playing everyone was more relaxed!Yellow Labrador RetrieverDolly is highly food motivated and has to learn not all food is hers, again I’m sure this comes from her having to compete for food with her siblings.

Dolly is such a sweet girl who is always watching what everyone is doing and if she should join in, which she always does!

Dolly arrived yesterday with her siblings after a long  journey all the way from the South!Yellow Labrador RetrieverAfter a warm shower and a hearty meal, she was still raring to go—guess she must have snoozed all the way up from Mississippi!

She eats with gusto from a raised bowl; it seems like she’s used to competing for food, so we’ll be helping her learn to slow down.

Another volunteer suggested a little trick: floating her kibble in water so she has to take her time picking out each piece.

House training is coming along, though Dolly sometimes gets so excited running full speed outside that she forgets to stop and pee!Yellow Labrador RetrieverBut she’s already making progress.

Last night, she slept soundly in her crate from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.—after some initial barks, she settled in and fell asleep sitting up!

She stayed dry and clean all night, and when she went out first thing, she was quick to take care of business.Yellow Labrador RetrieverPlus, she conquered the deck steps—after a moment of hesitation, she’s now going up and down like a pro.

Dolly is fitting right in with our two resident dogs, although they seem to be wondering what kind of little whirlwind we brought home!

She adores a good cuddle and melts right into you, as if she’s grateful for a moment to relax.Yellow Labrador RetrieverSweet, spirited, and full of fun, Dolly is an energetic five-month-old who’s always ready to learn—though she just might put her own spin on things!
