Drake #5 Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 3.5 Months Old ID#3774

Yellow Labrador Retriever MixMeet Drake! This adorable Labrador mix had a hard start to life in the country side of Arkansas.  His mom was a stray who was discovered by a great family who tried to gain her trust by feeding her in hopes of getting her to a rescue.  She was showing up everyday to the feeding station, but she suddenly stopped visiting. The family set out to look for her and stumbled upon her litter of puppies who were about 4 weeks old at the time.  Unfortunately, they also discovered her body a short distance away. Someone had shot her in the head. The family gathered up the puppies and contacted a local rescue for help. As that rescue is at full capacity, they reached out to Brookline for help in rehoming some of the litter. After about 4 weeks in transport delays, this adorable bunch (Drake, Maye, and Dancer) are now in Brookline foster homes.  Please read Drake’s blog from the bottom up to learn more about him.

Drake enjoyed a few magical days in the backyard with snow-free grass for the very first time since moving up here from Arkansas.Yellow Labrador Retriever MixHe was thrilled to discover sticks and all sorts of prickly little treasures he didn’t even know were hiding under the ice. 🌱✨

He also went on fun neighborhood walks with Frank and Ellie, finding so many new things to see and sniff — every corner was an adventure! 👃🐾

And then… the Blizzard of 2026 arrived.Yellow Labrador Retriever MixPoor Drake found himself nose-deep in the fluffy white stuff all over again, wondering how winter could change its mind so fast! ☃️😂🐶

Drake and Frank have officially become besties and now spend their mornings wrestling over a rotating collection of toys. It’s the best kind of puppy chaos! 🧸🐶

Drake is sleeping great in his crate in our room at night, though he’s pretty sure he’d rather move downstairs and snuggle with our two dogs all night long. (Nice try, Drake — we’re not ready for that yet!) 😄💤Yellow Labrador Retriever MixHe’s also taking mid-morning naps in his crate, and we’re now able to leave him and get on with things  while he snoozes away.

Such good progress as he grows more confident, independent, and mature every day. 🌟🐾

Drake is still waiting — knee-deep in snow — for his forever family 😬 🐶🐾Yellow Labrador Retriever MixHe’s sure they’re out there somewhere… and maybe they even have a winter home in much sunnier climes 😎🌤️

Until then, he’ll be dreaming of warm laps, sunny yards, and endless snuggles. 🐾💙

Just some cute Drake photos showing how he loves to spend his day — he is truly a cuddly boy.Yellow Labrador Retriever MixYellow Labrador Retriever Mix Drake is doing wonderfully sleeping 5–6 hours a night in his crate in our room and happily takes naps in his crate or stretched out on the couch.Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix

He is content being wherever his people are and especially enjoys snuggling with our Frankie.Yellow Labrador Retriever MixBeing left alone in a crate is still stressful for him right now, so this is something that will need to worked on gradually and gently as he matures.

House training is going great — no accidents for a while,  we take him out frequently. He often jumps off the couch after a nap with that urgent look in his eyes and we sprint outside together. He’s really doing well ! 🐾💙

Drake thinks this soft melted snow today is the best!! Not in Arkansas any more🐶💙🌾

Think Frankie will miss his mini me.🥺Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix

Drake had a very restful Super Bowl Sunday — in fact, he slept through the entire game!Yellow Labrador Retriever MixProbably a mistake on our part, because when he finally woke up at 11:00 pm, he was full of beans and ready to party.Yellow Labrador Retriever MixAfter an hour of fun and games and one last potty break, we carried him up to his crate in our room at midnight, and he slept straight through until 5:30 am. Whisked him downstairs and right outside to pee in the morning and on with the day.So about five hours between night time potty breaks — not too bad at all for such a young boy! He’s also getting much more predictable with when he needs to go out and pacing at the door, especially about 20 minutes after eating,  really good progress.

Drake is a sweet confident young puppy.

Drake gets on well with our two dogs and really doesn’t bother them as much as our previous foster puppy who would sit on Ellie’s head  !!!!!Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Yellow Labrador Retriever MixDrake is doing well with relaxing in the crate for nap time if he can see you.

In the crate where he can’t see you is a work in progress as he thinks he’s missing out on something fun.

At night he settles quickly in the crate in our room, might need a little reassuring that you are there but quickly tucks himself in for the night.Leash walking outside in the backyard, he pulls to where he wants to be, but is light so easy to maneuver and similar to Nala our previous foster he tries to squeeze through outr fence. Hence the leash! He is now used to the harness and has no issues wearing it.

He eats well.

He has learned sit and come and is motivated by treats.

He does very little puppy biting

He gives lots of kisses and loves to snuggle up on your lap for a nap. So get your favorite movies ready as you won’t be able to move !

He does try to see what’s on the counter but he’s not quite tall enough yet — soon will be as his legs are long!!!

He’s a typical puppy. He plays hard throwing toys off the couch and retrieving them, barking at his own relection in the fireplace and watches videos of himself on my computer!  And  then he crashes and falls asleep for a good nap.

Drake has been an easy foster so far he’s just a very sweet boy who wants to join you in whatever you are
doing. These puppies were obviously well socialized in their first foster home.

Drake is eager to please and will fit in easily to a forever family as he learns what is expected of him.

Meet Drake named after that “Drake Maye” by his evaluation volunteer who is obviously a Patriots fan!! who knew…Yellow Labrador Retriever MixDon’t know how that happened to our bleed green Eagles family.🏈🦅💚

Weighing in at 23 pounds, this handsome red puppy is a confident young man who had absolutely no hesitation walking into our home, introducing himself to Ellie and Frank, and immediately launching a full investigation of their toy collection.

Ellie has already decided Drake is her new playmate and has been showing him the ropes, while Frank is still on the fence about having a new mini-me in the house.

House training is for the snowmen in this weather! 🥶❄️

We’ve had a couple of successful outdoor potty trips, but it’s soooo cold that we’ve set up pee pads by the door for Drake.

Drake is already learning to go to the door when he needs to go, and we’ll get serious about the outdoor-only potty training once this arctic blast passes. For now, we’re choosing survival over perfection 😄🐾Yellow Labrador Retriever MixDrake has had a couple of naps in his crate. After some serious yelps of protest, he finally settled once I lay beside the crate and held his paw through the door.

Ellie chose to snooze nearby where he could see her, which seemed to reassure him that he wasn’t alone. ❤️🐾

Drake is very interactive with us, and you can see him trying to figure out what is going on around him all the time.

Drake gives lots of kisses and the occasional puppy nibble, loves to be cuddled upside down on your lap,Yellow Labrador Retriever MixAnd can entertain himself for several minutes bark-fighting with a stuffed cow!🐄😂

Drake is curious, social, and will make a special new family member for someone— No matter which team they support 🏈Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix
