Goober is a 1 year old super sweet, love bug who would love to cuddle up with a furever family. He loves people, other dogs, going for walks, playing with toys and in water and is happy to try anything else you want to do. He’s a very willing student and likes learning new things. He’s treat motivated, which makes life easier!Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixGoober is a tall, goofy guy, but is surprisingly gentle for his size. He still has a few bad habits that we’re working on, but he’s getting better every day. He jumps up less, pulls less on leash (especially when using the gentle leader), is better at playing with other dogs, has a great “sit” and is learning “down”, “wait” and “stay”. He will be very excited to explore a new home, so will need some supervision and guidance until he learns the house rules.

Goober has not lived in a home since he’s been with Brookline – we pulled him from a shelter, and then he has been spending time at a kennel.  So the adoptive family will need to be committed to working on housebreaking him.  He will need to be supervised and treated like a puppy at first.  They will also need to work on crate training him.  But this sweet, goofy guy will reward them with lots of snuggles!

Goober has been doing very well! He had a trip to the vet last week because he has “happy tail”. He has been leaving his bandage alone, so hopefully it’s healing up under there. He has a follow up appointment next week for a recheck. We’ve been working a lot on his leash skills, which are improving with use of the gentle leader. Goober loves his playtime in the yard and with his friend Teddy. His social skills have been getting better and he’s not as overly excited when he sees other dogs or plays with them. He’s a wiggly ball of love and just wants to snuggle up with people for cuddles.

After we had the snow about a week ago, Goober had a wonderful time racing through the snow!  He’s so fast!Black Labrador Retriever Mix Black Labrador Retriever MixWe have been practicing some leash skills and have been working on “wait” at gates and doors.  He’s starting to get the idea.  I also introduced the gentle leader to help discourage pulling on the leash.Black Labrador Retriever MixGoober and his friend Teddy enjoy playing together.  After a solid 10 minutes of vigorous play, they finally started to slow down.

Goober is becoming a very good student! He is very eager to please, and to learn new things. He is getting much better about his jumping on people, but still forgets himself and will jump on the gates because he’s so excited to go outside. He loves toys, but does not seem to have the retriever gene. He’s happy just to run around and entertain himself with the toys. He’s a very happy guy and absolute love bug. I was sitting down at one point and he half crawled into my lap to cuddle!

He’s going to be a great addition to a lucky family!

I had Goober meet another dog today. They were a bit uncertain of each other at first, but ended up playing fairly well. Goober likes to play with his front feet, and jumping on the other dog. I can see why some other dogs may not enjoy that style of play. If they had more room to run, they might have played differently.black labrador retriever mix black labrador retriever mix black labrador retriever mix

Yesterday, Goober was good in the car after the first couple of minutes on his rescue ride from the shelter to Kamp.  He greeted everyone happily when he arrived.

Goober is settling in well on his first day at Kamp.  He is a very sweet, and affectionate dog.  He loves to lean against you to get petted, and then will flop over to get a belly rub.Black Labrador MixWhen he gets excited, he does currently jump up on you.  He’s very tall, so he can lick you right in the face!  This is something that we will work on while he’s here at Kamp.  He does respond to him name, and knows “sit.”  He’s very gentle taking treats.

He can be strong on leash, but has already started getting the idea that pulling doesn’t work.

He is very curious and has enjoyed exploring his new home.Black Labrador Mix
