“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” – Karen Davison

Labrador/GS mixSweet Gusty came into foster care with me 3 months ago, skinny, full of worms, and unloved.  Her world is starting to change and she is learning what it’s like to get loving attention. This bright eyed girl is now 50lbs!Labrador/GS mixHer world will forever change when she finds her own special someone to give her the pampered indoor dog life she deserves.  She’d love to be your loyal companion and snuggle buddy.Labrador/GS mixGusty is a smart girl and knows “sit” and “stay”.  We are working on “paw” and “down.”

Gusty likes to play tug and keep away with her furry friends, and is good about entertaining herself.

Can you give this girl her new beginnings and start a lifetime of love together!Labrador/GS mix

This week, I have been working on “sit” with everyone.

Gusty picked it up in no time. She likes those treats!

Gusty is my little sweet, laid back, loving little darling!  Labrador/GS MixShe loves to soak up all the love she can.

A little dirt doesn’t hurt that girl, LOL.  When it’s hot, I guess it’s time to cool off in a nice dirt hole, especially if you been busy listening to what going on in the yard.

Gusty and Iclyn had a trip to the park over the weekend.

Initially, Gusty was walking with my husband George and she kept stopping and looking back at me.  We decided to switch walkers as Gusty was much more relaxed and walked much better when she was walking next to me.  She did great though for her first time out at the park. There were lots of new sights and sounds, I was really proud of her.

Playtime in the yard is always more fun when you have someone to do it with!

Gusty is a sweet girl and would love to find a forever family of her own!

Gusty is healing well from the spay surgery.  They’ve all been relaxing together in the yard.

She also really likes playing ball in the big yard, and is usually the one to get the ball first.

Gusty enjoys socializing with people and other dogs and is very friendly with everyone.Labrador/GS mixLabrador/GS mix Labrador/GS mix

We’ve fostered over 350 dogs and puppies in 4.5 years and they are the best litter we have ever had. They keep their shelter and pen clean and prefer to go outside their pen on the grass, they all get along together and with the other dogs, they have absolutely no resource guarding and can all eat together, they don’t jump on you, and are getting so much better with leash training. From all the pups I’ve had, they have by far been the easiest litter.

Gusty had a couple of busy days. Gusty and her sisters were brought to the vet on March 3 to get spay.  They have come a really long way thanks to their foster working on their socialization and leash skills.

Gusty was a bit unsure while she was at the vet, but foster Dad reassured her and with his help walked over to the scale. She usually does okay on leash but was more hesitant in this new place.

She sure was happy the next day though to be reunited with foster Mom and Dad!

Gusty and her sisters, Wynter, Mittens, and Iclyn are all staying in the side yard since they are still unaltered and we don’t need any accidental litters coming along.

The girls all like hanging out together and playing chase with each other. This is Gusty (light pink), Mittens (purple) and Iclyn (no collar) having some fun.

Gusty and Mittens like to chase around the yard together alot.

When it’s time to clean out their pen, they all like to supervise.  I imagine their conversation goes something like this:

Gusty: Yall think she needs helping cleaning our pen?
Iclyn: She looks like she’s doing fine.
Labrador/German Shepherd MixMittens: We can supervise
Wynter: Word!Labrador/German Shepherd Mix

Gusty had a hard start to life. Her parents are outside dogs in Arkansas, and Gusty and her littermates were not wanted or cared for by their owner, and were left to fend for themselves. When they were found by a good Samaritan, they were underweight and full of worms. They are now currently in a foster home with a rescue in AR who reached out to Brookline to help rehome them. Gusty has gained weight and has been treated medically and is now waiting for her forever family to come along.
Labrador/German Shepherd MixGusty can be shy with new people but with time trusts her caretakers and likes to get put her head in your lap to get pets. When Gusty sees her littermates getting some attention, she doesn’t hesitate to run over and join in. Labrador/German Shepherd MixGusty would do best with a furry friend in the home to help build her confidence and trust in her new people. Gusty loves to play with toys and enjoys a friendly game of tug with her littermates. She also likes when her people toss her a toy so she can chase after it.Labrador/German Shepherd MixGusty would love to learn all about the joys of living indoors and what it’s like to be loved on by her people. The litter is currently living in a shed with a fenced run and they keep their living quarters clean. She is food motivated so she should house train readily.Labrador/German Shepherd MixGusty is good with other dogs but has not been exposed to cats.Gusty is heartworm negative and will be UTD on all vaccines prior to transport from Arkansas.

Please give this sweet girl a chance to find out what it’s like to be loved and safe in a home of her own!
