Hook NKA Abby Black Labrador Retriever Female 4 Years Old ID#2505
September 19, 2024
Lots happening here. Abby attended the Brookline event at Shy Bear Brewery in Lewistown on Sept. 8th. She was quite apprehensive at first with all the dogs and people around but eventually settled and was able to socialize with everyone. We had a vet visit this week. In good health, had some minors ear stuff going on but we got her ears cleaned and some drops. A lot less ear shaking now. The vet still could not tell if she was spayed.
She is still quite the athlete when it comes to playing ball, she definitely loves those tennis balls! Does very well off lead and listens intently! on Leash she still doing a good deal of pulling.
She is an absolute sweetheart! Alway up for pets and belly rubs.!
Busy time of year with work so we will try to be more regular with blog updates as thing slow down.
I will also try to get some pictures up soon.

Abby (formerly hook) is just plain awesome! She met the neighbor dog, Lucy, and they played through the fence. We left her alone for the first time yesterday and she just went and laid down, with her tennis ball of course. She has gone to work with Rob and has been very well behaved. Still playing a lot of ball. Still pulls some on leash but is getting better. We are working with her off leash some in controlled areas and she is doing extremely well. She received her box of toys and treats, thank all who provide and send those. She was most happy to see, you guessed it, the new can of bright yellow tennis balls. She also enjoyed the new Kong toy, especially when we put peanut butter in it! We are still thinking she may have some hearing deficiency, but she can hear.
A little explanation on the name change. First, Hook was not a name befitting such a wonderful girl. She did not listen or react at all to the name. We came up with the name Abby. She already seems to listen and come to it. Just mentioning Abby, will get an intense tail wag.

We picked up this beauty from Val and Mark in Mechanicsburg. Big thanks to them for transporting her for us. There were a number of other folks involved with springing her from the Vets office and getting her to us, thank you all. We stopped and picked her up some toys on the way home, but we have found there is only one that interests her to this point. As you can see from the picture, she doesn’t like tennis balls at all, LOL. When we got home, she just settled right in, met the whole family had a drink and some dinner. Then we went out in the yard and started to play. This beauty is ALL lab. Will fetch to she falls over if you would let her. She fetches the ball, runs back and lays down at your feet with the ball. She is such a good girl! House broken, has no issues thus far with the cats. She had a good night and laid on the floor in the bedroom even though there were multiple dog beds for her. At some time during the night, she figured out the dog beds were for her.She walks much better on lead with the harness but still pulls a lot. We are already working on that. We have a question about her hearing, she does not seem to respond to any verbal commands or other stimulus. We are continuing to monitor/evaluate the hearing to see if she just “ignores” well. She seems to have some training in hand signals, she seems to respond to pointing for example if we point to the ground she will lay down without any other prompting. We are also thinking of changing her name as Hook is just not befitting this beautiful girl! more to follow
