Iggy #2 Chocolate Labrador Retriever Mix Male 2 Years Old ID#3433
Meet Iggy! The sweetest lab mix you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. Iggy was found as a stray and taken to ACCT Philadelphia and then to a Brookline foster home shortly after. Weighing 27 lbs, he is severely underweight, but we have no doubt he’ll gain steadily with regular small meals and lots of love.

Iggy here once again. I’m getting healthier each day and as you’ll see by my pictures, I’m looking pretty good! I continue to gain weight and even gaining some muscle mass. I continue getting weekly manicures and my nail are looking good too. The ladies at the salon are amazed at my transformation. At home, I am still trying to fit into everyone’s lap but I’m just a smidge too big.
I’m enjoying learning how to play with my dog siblings; I especially like playing chase around the yard! FM says I am getting stronger and faster as the weeks progress. I don’t play chase with the cats, love giving the kitties kisses, even while upside down.
I’m continuing to learn about living in a house. I’m doing well with housetraining with only about one accident (if any at all), per day. FM is keeping the male wraps until I’m 100%. I’ve learned to sniff and try to steal food on the counters in the kitchen which FM says is a big no-no, so she keeps all food put away when I’m not being supervised… that makes me sad. She said that I need to trust that she won’t let me go hungry and just eat the food that is offered to me. I like the food she gives me so I will try to follow the rules. I received a wonderful box of toys and snacks in the mail this past week. I love the treats and am trying to figure out what toys are. I did like the tennis balls and am learning to play a game called fetch. I go to have my sutures out from the neutering surgery tomorrow and am hoping the vet says I’m healthy enough to leave my foster home for a new life-long adventure with a new family!

I had my neutering surgery on Monday, 3/10 and got through it with flying colors. The 1st night, FM put a silly yellow innertube thing around my neck. I gave her the major sad puppy dog eyes and she told me if I leave the sutures alone, I don’t have to wear it. I’ve been very good and don’t bother my sutures at all. While I was at the vet, FM had him take a look at a few bald spots on my hind legs and tips of my ears. The vet said it is from being malnourished and is treating me with medication.
FM is feeding me nutritious dog food and giving me vitamins and fish oil. The vet said the hair will grow back as I continue to get healthier and heal. I have gained 13 pounds so far at my foster home. I weigh a whopping 40 pounds now! I am not a big guy so my normal weight will be between 45 and 50 lbs.I’ve enjoyed learning how to play with others. This is a totally new concept for me, so I’ve had to learn manners with other dogs. I am a quick study because I really like it! I get to run in the woods with resident dog Jax who is a good listener, and I am learning from him. I also enjoy playing with Joey, one of the other resident dogs; we like to be mouthy with each other. FM calls it “lazy play”.
I continue to work on housetraining. FM says it’s going slow but she’s sure I will get it because “I’m a smart cookie”.I’ll be at my foster home for a little bit longer while I heal from the neutering and get treated for the few bald spots on my legs, but after that, I’ll be ready to find my furever home! I cannot wait to have a family of my own to shower with lots of love!!

I went to the Vet on Friday, and I have gained 7 lbs! I’m going to continue with 5 small meals a day then it will go to 4 pretty soon. I have an appointment to see the Vet again on 3/10/25 when I will get neutered. The vet said other than needing to gain weight with good nutritious food, I’m a health boy! Now enough about the boring medical stuff… here’s what I have learned about living in a house: I love to sneak up on the couch with FD is working or FM has her head turned.
FM reminds me that the comfy dog beds are for me. I ride great in the car and enjoy visiting with the ladies that are filing my nails weekly to help shorten them. They all love me and want me to come live with them.
I love going for walks and walk very nicely with a harness; FM believes I might even do well without a leash once I know the basic commands. I love people, big and small. I did learn that I’m not supposed to climb on and lick the little ones though.
I am still working on potty training, but FM said I’m super smart and food motivated so I’ll learn quickly. I know “sit” and run to her when she calls my name. She said we are starting “training camp” this week. I know I’ll love that because there are treats involved.

Hello, Iggy here. I’ve had lots of fun at my new foster home. FM is learning new things about me every day. She says I am such a good boy. I am very quiet and hardly ever bark. I’ll join in now and then if my 4-legged foster siblings are barking. I sleep through the night, 9 hours, (or more) at a time. I like sleeping in a crate, but FM says as soon as I learn the bathroom rules, I won’t need to do that if I don’t want to.
I’ve met a few neighbors and have gone right up to them for some pets. I’m a bit timid but as soon as a new person pets me, I’m very happy and not worried one bit. I also met 2 neighbor dogs and loved them too!
FM says I walk very nicely on a leash. She puts a harness on me, and I don’t pull at all. She also bought me a coat – even though it’s been a bit warmer, she said I might need it when it’s cold out. I like it. It’s very cozy.
I also had a bath and a manicure, I’m not sure if I liked it but FM says I was a very good boy!
My favorite thing in the world (besides food), is to lay my head on my people’s laps and just soak in the gentle pets!!
I have an appointment with the vet on Friday, 2/28 so FM is hoping I’ve gained a few pounds. Right now, I am eating 5 small meals a day, but if I keep doing really good and gain some weight, that might change. Paws crossed!

His current foster home has 3 dogs (all big) and 3 cats, and he loves them all. His favorite kind of companion has 2 legs. He follows his foster family (mom, dad and sister) wherever they go and then lays down quietly beside them.
He will lay his head in anyone’s lap for a gentle pet. He absolutely loves being a member of a family… what’s not to love about a comfy warm bed and blankey!
Stay tuned as Iggy’s journey has just begun…
