Jade #2 Chocolate Labrador Retriever Female 9 Years Old #3589
Meet Jade! Super sweet, 9 yo purebred Jade came into the rescue when Jade’s owner suffered an unfortunate health crisis and as a result Jade has been living alone in her house with only periodic visits from the owner’s daughter to feed her and let her out. Fortunately, she reached out to Brookline for help and now Jade is safe in a foster home.

Jade had a fun weekend celebrating Easter with her foster family! After a change in plans, it turned out that we would be hosting our family. Jade was super enthused about this, because it meant she now had a dozen choices for fetch partners! She was very well behaved around the crowd, and got along with everyone – from 3 month old squeaky babies, to crazy little kids running around with toys, and men she doesn’t know wearing baseball caps! She doesn’t beg or steal from the table unless you invite her over. She stayed away from the doors and gates and we didn’t worry about her getting out. She just wanted to be part of the action and soak up as much love as possible. She did deliver her fetch stick to everyone’s laps, and found a very willing partner in my 7 year old niece who wanted to practice her softball throws.
Our neighbors were also hosting Easter and had 3 small dogs visiting! Jade went to the fence to sniff them, but even when the neighbor dogs were barking and charging the fence line, Jade kept her manners and did not bark. We were very proud of her for keeping her cool so well.
We’re continuing to monitor Jade with other dogs – if they are on the other side of the street or in a yard, she has no reaction and does not even notice them. If they need to pass in tighter quarters, we keep a strong grip on the leash and Jade’s attention can usually be redirected quickly. We’ve been enjoying the sunny days and Jade has been cruising around the neighborhood. She is a welcome guest at the groomers, coffee shop, bakery, and neighborhood market. She enjoys dining al fresco, and is very well behaved if we decide to stop and have a drink or snack on an outdoor patio. She will also willingly stay in our yard for hours – sometimes we need to get the treats out to tempt her to come in. She loves to be outside.
Jade is an easy going lady who is ready to find her forever home. She is looking for someone who will keep her active in her golden years, relax on the couch and let her snuggle into you, and give her all the attention she deserves. She doesn’t mind if you need to leave her alone to go to work during the day – she won’t be destructive or have any accidents, and she will be so happy to see you when you get home! Jade does need to be your one and only pet, but she promises to be the only one you need!

Sweet girl Jadie has calmed down quite substantially after starting to feel at home. She has settled into our routine, and knows how to use her puppy dog eyes to get what she wants (usually… a ride to the park, a few rounds of fetch, some treats, or just to go outside and lay in the sun). She is starting to show us some of the famous lab appetite, and she is instantly clearing her plate at breakfast and dinner. She loves to get special treats mixed in, like sardines, pumpkins, or eggs.
We had some visitors stay with us this week, and Jade lovingly welcomed them into our home. Everyone got lots of attention, and if you are relaxing on the couch, Jade will come sit next to you and put her head in your lap for pets. She is incredibly sweet and loving towards every human she meets. We have had a few contractors come out this week about some work we need done, and she was a very hospitable host to everyone.
She still has seemingly endless amounts of energy, and we spend some time in the yard playing fetch every day. Our freshly planted grass does not stand a chance against Jade!
Jade is getting better on a leash, and walks are quite enjoyable for everyone. We love to take Jade to a new neighborhood to explore and go on Sniff-ari. Jade did have a meet and greet with another dog, and she confirmed our suspicion that she is not dog friendly, and will do best as an only dog.Jade also took a walk with my sister and her newborn. She enjoyed the walk – but as soon as the baby started making “squeaky toy noises,” Jade wanted to investigate a bit too thoroughly. We think Jade would do best in a home with no children under 5.
Foster mom started a new job, and Jade has spent a few hours unsupervised in the house each day, and she is doing great. She has been watching some nature TV shows and seems totally uninterested in the TV…. maybe we will try a rom-com next.

Jade is really starting to settle in and get comfortable here. Her first 2 days she was definitely very nervous… couldn’t get settled, with a bit of panting and pacing. Now, she is relaxed in the house and yard, and starting to know her way around town on the leash. She is still a grazer, but she is eating all of her food throughout the day.
She’s earned herself many nicknames in the past few days… Jadie Foster, Jader-tot, Jadakiss, Jada-lada-ding-dong, but mostly she is my Jadie girl.
This morning we took a nice long walk to the park, and played fetch in the large gated area. She is FAST and loved the opportunity to show off her speed.
We stopped by the coffee shop on the walk home, and Jade had the opportunity to meet some of her fans, who showered her with pets and compliments. When we got home, she took a nap to recover. On her mid day walk, Jade met the neighborhood mail carrier, Steve, and got a treat! She may be in the dog minority – but she thinks mailmen are pretty cool. She actually thinks everyone is pretty cool, and loves to meet people.
We’ve officially found a toy that Jade cannot destroy – the Woof Pupsicle. She loves it and it keeps her busy for quite a while!
Jade is a great companion and she is along for the ride, wherever you want to go. She is so happy to be around people, and will make you feel very loved. She’s not a velcro dog, but she’s never far. I think she will become more independent as she continues to settle in.

Jade has had a very exciting 24 hours!
As promised, she took a trip to the pet shop for a bath and to pick out some toys. Jade was very well behaved in the bath, and even let us give her a nice blow dry. She is softer and more beautiful than we could have imagined!!
Jade picked out a toy for herself, which she promptly disassembled as soon as we got home. It seems like she understands boundaries and although she has a passion for destroying stuffed toys, she does not chew on anything else.
After a few rounds of fetch and a bedtime walk, she was finally ready to settle in and sleep. Jade got a good night of rest, and only woke us up to give us kisses once or twice.
We headed to the vet first thing in morning, and poor Jade has a double ear infection and an ear hematoma. We are treating her ears and she should be feeling better soon! We will head back to the vet for a recheck next week. She was very nervous at the vet but still her sweet self – they gave us some meds to help her relax for her recheck.Jade got a pup cup as a treat for being such a good girl, and spent the whole drive home with her head out the window.
We arrived home to a package from her foster auntie that had a new toy inside! Jade kindly volunteered to destroy the intruder, and our home is once again safe from stuffed octopi.
Jade loves outside time and ball is life. One of her favorite indoor tricks is to roll the ball under the couch and make me fetch it for her. She is a sucker for attention and never gets tired of playing and affection.

Yesterday we brought home Jade, a beautiful 9 year old chocolate lab. Jade is in great shape, and clearly came from a very loving home. Jade is a little anxious being in a new place, but she is curious, excited, and so so sweet. She got in and out of the car with no problem and was an angel on the ride home (partially thanks to a new ball she was playing with). She has explored and sniffed every inch of the house from the basement to the attic – she handles the stairs well and isn’t scared of anything.
We spent some time playing fetch in the yard, have gone on several walks to explore the neighborhood, and have eaten lots of treats. She’s a little picky with her food… but very indiscriminate towards treats!
She loves balls and it seems like she would play fetch for hours. Foster mom had a bunch of tennis balls, and Jade really went wild.
She is great on a leash, barely pulling at all. She notices the squirrels, cats, birds, and dogs in the neighborhood, but doesn’t lunge or bark. She does make sure she goes up to every person she sees to ask for a pet!
Jade seems very excited for her afternoon – we have a trip to the pet store for a bath and some new toys planned! Tomorrow, we will head to the vet for a check up to make sure this girl is in tip top shape to find a new home.
