chocolate labrador retriever mixJava, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever mix made his way North from MS with his litter mates, and is in his new foster home.  Mom was a Chocolate Labrador Retriever and Dad was a true mix breed, otherwise known as a Heinz 57. Please read Java’s blog from the bottom up.

chocolate labrador retriever mixLittle Java has spent the past two nights with us and is settling in very well!  He’s very sweet and incredibly smart!  We got home pretty late in the evening on Friday (Thank you Lori for picking him up from the transport and bathing him!), so we didn’t have much time to play outside before it got too dark.  He did get a chance to run around the yard and play with my two much larger dogs and get some energy out before we hit the sack.
chocolate labrador retriever mixSince my husband was away, he slept the first night in his little carrier with a “snuggle puppy” stuffed animal.  I wanted to see if he was going to cry.  He did cry and whine a bit, but I think mostly to let me know he had to go out.  Now that my husband is back and another work week has started, Java has started sleeping with us.  It’s a much more restful sleep for everyone!  Last night, he even lightly booped me on the nose to tell me he had to go out.  My heart melted and he peed as soon as we went outside.
chocolate labrador retriever mixNow that Java has been with us for a few days, I think he’s starting to get a feel for life with a family.  He is so good with my older lab and loves to play with my large Russian rescue, Marley.  They’ve also been known to snuggle.  He has only had a couple of accidents in the house, but it was because I wasn’t paying attention.  Otherwise, he already knows to walk to the back door.  I think his only flaw is that he absolutely HATES being behind bars, whether in his crate, a carrier, or an exercise pen.

chocolate labrador retriever mixThe poor little guy cries the whole time he’s in there and there’s no treat, food or toy that will distract him.  Once he stops wanting to chew everything in sight, (which, BTW, he’s very easily redirected if you give him one of his toys), he’ll be a happy camper to free roam.

chocolate labrador retriever mixMeet Java!!  After a LONG ride from Mississippi to Pennsylvania, he finally made it to New Jersey and met his two foster brothers.  chocolate labrador retriever mix chocolate labrador retriever mix chocolate labrador retriever mixHe played for a bit and ran around in the yard, then came inside and snuggled on the couch before we called it a night.
