Big Gus does not like the heat!
These days, he prefers soaking up snuggles instead of soaking up the sun, so we’re keeping activities light and the air conditioning running strong.
Gus enjoys belly rubs, lounging on the cool office floor, and spending time with “his peeps” on the team for plenty of social interaction and love.
He doesn’t even seem to miss his walks during these hot days. A little strolling around the office, some cuddling, and a bit of training are enough to keep him happy and content. He’s truly an easy keeper.
According to the girls on the team, Gus is a Class A snuggler with a gentlemanly flair. The moment someone pets him gently and with love, he relaxes completely, softens, and settles right in for affection.
One of Gus’s sweetest habits is asking you to hold his paw while you pet him. We like to think that’s his way of giving a high-five for all the love and attention he receives.
It should also be noted that young ladies regularly handle Gus, and he responds beautifully to a soft touch. He is perfectly manageable for a smaller person and always behaves like the gentleman he is.

Big news for our boy Gus!
Yes, he has been dog selective in the past, but if you have a well-mannered dog, this is the kind of greeting you’ll get. Both Libby and Gus were eager to say hi to each other and touch noses. There was lots of tail wagging and happy body language, sniffing “parts,” sniffing faces, and walking around in the training room together on leashes with their leaders.
Libby the black lab is my dog and her energy is demure and sweet (yet she can sometimes get fired up and want to play around)… But the core of her is sweet and I would say submissive. We kept this interaction calm and cool… no playing, just socializing calmly together.
In the next few days, we’ll have him meet my Brookline alum Ben, who has bolder energy, so we’ll see how that greeting goes.
But so far Gus is showing us so much congeniality with dogs; it will definitely be the right dog making the difference for him!

Gus, formerly Jingle, has been neutered (yay!) and is in the care of Robyn and Bill at Tall Tails Training and Boarding. Gus is very sweet and sincerely wants to understand life as a companion dog and be a part of a loving home! Previously, his life has been up and down, so he is looking for consistency and someone he can understand and someone who takes the time to understand him. Gus just wants to find peace and calm, acceptance and joy…
After his neuter and some decompression time, Gus began working with Robyn & Bill in an immersion learning experience. He has been in training for several weeks and when he is adopted, his owner will receive 7 private lessons (free!) as part of the package in which he is enrolled! 💛
He loves consistency in his daily structure. Robyn and Bill work with him every day and he has learned not only commands, but also how to ignore distractions and walk nicely on a leash. His training sessions twice a day engage him in a kind and loving experience, they encourage teamwork, and create an awareness of expectation which he is happy to accommodate.
As it turns out, Gus does NOT need a strong hand as once expected. He is eager to understand and eager to be treated calmly and fairly. If you ask him to do something, and you do it consistently with what he has learned in training, he is happy to earn his treats and your verbal praise!
He likes to take walks and play in the speed zone with a ball, although he only does a toss or two and is then happy and content to just stroll around and sniff the grass! He is not as high energy as once expected. He does also like to lay down and get belly rubs!
Gus has made many new friends and can even be walked and trained around dogs!
We have found him to be dog selective, as he has had play experiences that may have exceeded his comfort level and put him on defense with dogs. But he is indeed learning to be calm around them and knows he is safe in the hands of a trusted leader.
Gus also had a lot of stress from being on the street fighting for food, in a shelter etc. and while his decompression time with us has proven very valuable, the previous stress has made him protective of his food bowl. He would need to be fed in his crate or in another area where he’s not bothered until he is done. It’s a simple temporary fix but he will outgrow this with consistency, structure, quiet time at meals and a secure home.
You can see in his face, when he is treated with gentleness and tenderness, that he wants to relax into trusting his whole life can be this way. This guy has incredible potential to be such a loving and kind companion!

Jingles has been working with Joe Nick K9 Training and is working on manners, leash training and recall. He is one big, strong boy but definitely responds with a firm voice and clear expectations. Jingles wants to please, and just needs someone to take charge and let him know what is expected.
Jingles is great in the car and loves going with his person wherever they want to take him. He was a bit hesitant about the snow with the icy crust, but has quickly mastered the challenge, and now goes bounding out in the snow with pure abandon!
He has been interacting with lots of dogs at the training facility and will sometimes be a bit growly but listens to correction. And he definitely has a few he connects with – he is in love with one of Joe’s dogs!Jingles really responds to clear directions and routine. He loves being with his people and wants to please. He would do best with older kids and really needs to be an only dog. This boy is very loyal to his people and will be happy to notify you if there are strangers about. He would love being the center of attention and your best buddy. After spending life on the street, he deserves that!

This high energy boy needs a take charge kind of person. He needs consistency and clear expectations and will reward you by being your best buddy. He is extremely loyal to his people and would be your loyal protector and life long snuggler.Jingle is UTD on vaccinations, and crate trained.
Jingle has so much to offer and greets you with that wagging tail and smile on his face that we come to expect from Labs. He has your typical Lab energy, and needs to have consistent daily exercise. He loves to run and play, and walks are one of his favorite things! Outdoor activities along with inside puzzles or games will definitely wear him out!He is very food motivated, and wants to please. He becomes very connected to his people, and will be your loyal boy and loves being the center of attention.. He would do best with older teenagers in the home as he is young, big and strong and still is learning his manners. With your guidance, and lots of love and consistency, Jingle will reciprocate that love with lots of cuddle time and loyalty.
