Jules Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female 4 Years Old #3420

Meet Jules!  This adorable 4 year old Labrador Mix was pulled from ACCT Philly just in time as she was time stamped to be euthanized.  Luckily a volunteer was able to pull her in the nick of time and she is now safe in a Brookline foster home.  Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about her.

Greetings, friends and soon-to-be-friends!  My name is Jules.  I think that name can apply to both males and females; I am of the female persuasion.  I haven’t been in Brookline-land very long but I can tell you life as a Brookline dog agrees with me. Having moved around a few times before landing in my current doggie digs, I really crave consistency. I hope to find a family who will provide that. And big bonus points if they like a dog who is affectionate.

So here’s how I got here:

I had been brought to ACCT (big shelter in Philadelphia) as a stray in late February.  I was very scared and nervous there, and I would flatten myself on the floor when I felt anxious.  So… the ACCT folks decided to name me Pancake. Sort of a sad reason for a cute name.  Anyway, because of overcrowded conditions at the shelter I was in grave danger of being put to sleep. That’s when Brookline stepped in and rescued me. I am so grateful!  New life, new name. I am now known as Jules. I had a car ride and checked out my new place. After a few days in my first foster home, we concluded that I would be better off in a home where someone is around most of the time and where there were no other pets.  You see, I caught a cold while I was in the shelter, and I was still contagious when I arrived in foster care.

Also, there were some initial concerns about my ability to tolerate a crate, to be left alone in the house, and take care of my business outside.  So before getting too settled in that foster home I was offered a relocation package.  And that brings me to my current location.

I’ve been in this interim foster home for three weeks and have made a lot of progress, if I do say so myself. I have shown no sign of separation anxiety since I’ve been here. I am very quiet and well-behaved in my crate and have been just fine for increasing lengths of time. I was alone in the crate for four and a half hours recently, with no issues at all.   AND… I’ve learned the drill about going outside to take care of business, and only rarely will have an accident now.  Oh, and my cold is gone. I’m in excellent health.Black Labrador MixMy remaining to-do list has two main items: learning to refrain from pulling when I’m leash-walking and learning the art of polite interactions with dogs I meet along the way.  I truly love people and I long for every bit of social contact I can get. That translates into a very eager approach to people and dogs.  I am told I should tone it down a bit.  I’m a smart young lady and I do think I will master those skills with a family who will provide the guidance I need.

My foster mom wants you to know that I am very affectionate, love physical contact, and like to be close to her whenever possible.

So… That is the story of my recent past and my present.  Now I’m ready to launch my future.  Would you like to share it with me?

Hugs and cuddles —  Jules
