Junior #4 Yellow Labrador Retriever Male 3 Years Old ID #3005

Junior is ready to find his forever home. He is a sweet and gentle boy who is full of energy that he loves to expend playing ball in the yard
Junior is hoping to find a home where he can continue to enjoy his favorite activity and have an active family that can give him lots of love and attention. He would also love a playful fur sibling or two.
Junior has previously lived with a child (age unknown). We would recommend over 5YO due to some nervous energy.

Junior had a great first week and was so excited to get a box full of goodies from Brookline! He also celebrated his 3rd birthday this weekend. No cake…we are limiting treats because he still has a sensitive belly, but lots of ball playing. If Junior could spend all day every day outside playing ball, he’d be happy with that. And we classed it up a bit in his brand-new bowtie from Brookline. He is looking mighty sharp these days.
Junior has been very good in the house. He had one accident that was due to a sensitive belly moment and he was very embarrassed by that. Otherwise, he will signal to go out with a stare and a whine…which coincidentally is the same signal for “I want to go play ball.” He has not yet ventured into counter surfing or trying to steal food from the table, but he does have a strong desire to hang out on the couch and sleep in bed. For now, though, since there is still a lot to learn, so we are going to keep off furniture. But don’t worry, he still gets lots of comfort.
Junior also knows the difference so far between things he is given to rip up if he chooses and things that don’t belong to him that he leaves alone… With the exception of one door stop. While it’s still good to be aware of what he is doing, he makes a good work from home pup because you don’t have to chase him around the house to keep him out of trouble. However, it is still important to note he does demand breaks for playtime or walks because he can get restless. A playful pal may be a big help to Junior. Resident dog Abby is not his biggest fan and also can’t run as much as he does.
What Junior needs to work on most are his walking skills. He is very inconsistent. He has shown better focus in the quiet streets of the neighborhood, but one whiff of something interesting in grassy areas can send him into a frenzy, and even in a good harness there is a lot of pulling. We will continue to work with him on that. Anyway, try to resist these gorgeous eyes and pearly white smile. Bet ya can’t.
Stay tuned for more on this super sweet boy.

Junior continues to share his shining personality and sweet smile with everyone. He is very smart, sensitive, and eager to please. He has a lot of energy and is always excited to play. He follows you very closely and likes to always know what’s next. He has also taken on watchdog responsibility, barking at noises outside he is unsure of or when other dogs bark, but I think that will become less often as he becomes more comfortable in a new environment. He still has some nervous energy while he’s figuring everything out. Coughs and sneezes are very startling to him and allergy season started early this year.
Aside from his first night, Junior has slept very quietly through the night. The pillow bed that was set up for him apparently did not look like the right spot so he would climb over it and stuff himself in the corner. We tried again with a different bed, and that seemed to provide the right level of comfort.
Junior is learning that working all day on the computer is quite boring. But for a three-year-old dog he’s handling it really well. We get breaks for walks and play time in the yard which creates the perfect opportunity for office naps. Bones and toys will also help to keep him busy. Today’s hobby turned into massacre. RIP Lambchop.

Junior had a great 2nd day in foster care. He hung out in the office for a half day of work, occasionally bringing his new favorite ball over for a game of catch, and when foster Mom was busy, he would sit on the other side of the desk and gently roll the ball towards my foot so I could kick it back over and over.
Junior did really well with work being done outside the house all day. He did not seem scared of all the noise and was excited to meet one of the workers in the yard.
Junior is a bundle of energy and joy for most of the day, with power naps taken in between to reboot. He loves to expand some energy running up and down the flights of stairs to keep track of where everyone is and, more importantly, what they are eating.
When it’s time to nap, he has started to use his crate as a nice quiet spot and we leave the door open for him for whenever he wants to use it. We have not yet left Junior alone, but we get the sense he has some separation anxiety. Today when I went out to the yard without him on a couple of occasions to check out the project going on, he ran through the house crying and looking in each room. We will need to work on his confidence there.

We met Junior’s temporary foster last night and took him home to start the rest of his Brookline journey. Junior was quiet on the car ride home and alternated between gazing out the window and curling up in the back seat. We arrived home before sunset which gave him the chance to check out the back yard and play some ball to calm his nerves. This boy is fast and was more than happy to get to know us by showing off his skills. Then we decided to head inside and he did not hesitate to climb the staircase up to the 2nd floor deck and head inside to check out his new digs.
Junior definitely had first night jitters and spent some time running circles through doorways of the living area and then down the hall to check out each bedroom. But it didn’t take long before all of the events of the day caught up to him and he started falling asleep sitting up. Once we were ready to go to bed, it took some time for him to settle. When he finally seemed to get comfortable, we all fell asleep ….until about three o clock in the morning when there was a crash. Junior, looking petrified, jumped from the floor over me in bed and landed between us, where he curled up at the foot of the bed. I told him we would discuss it in the morning. Morning came at 5:45 am with a very clear request for a belly rub. After finding the empty nightstand, I pulled the lamp, a picture frame and water glass out of the hamper, and we were ready to start the day.
Junior enjoyed breakfast and dinner from a fairly challenging slow feeder. He’s a gobbler so this definitely helps slow him down. He spins circles during mealtime to take on the challenge of getting every last pebble. Then he likes to top off his meals with a nice messy drink of water and then a face dunk into the water bowl to get any pebbles that may have landed there.
Intro with resident dog Abby went well, but she is not sure yet about this guy. We did take two successful walks with everyone having great manners and hung out with some tail wagging and lots of good sniffs, but Abby is making sure this young boy doesn’t get crazy too close to her, and so far, he respects her authority. Junior loved meeting his foster grandparents and having them walk with him too. He learned quickly his foster grandma always has treats in her pocket.
Junior was even up for having his foster aunt come to meet him. He was gentle all day with everyone and not overly excited or overwhelmed. He did not jump up to greet and showed he knows basic commands and follows directions well. Junior is friendly and already seeking out attention and showing affection. We can already tell he is a very sweet boy and will be a joy to have around.
