Keller Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix Male 1.5 Years Old ID#3449

Yellow Labrador Retriever MixMeet Keller! Keller is a sweet but shy Labrador mix who was residing in a shelter in North Carolina.  Keller was brought to the shelter after he was left behind alone when his family was evicted from their home. Through a collaboration with a rescue partner in NC, Keller was transported north and is now safe in a Brookline foster home.  Please read Keller’s blog from the bottom up to learn more about him while in foster care.

Yellow Labrador MixKeller had a great weekend! He’s really starting to show his playful side—enjoying chasing balls and happily chewing on his dog toys.

We took Keller for a long walk around Falls Lake, where we passed lots of other dogs on leash. Even when one gave a loud bark, Keller handled it beautifully—walking right by without a flinch and just a quick glance back once we had passed. He’s proving to be a calm and thoughtful companion out and about.

Keller also had a vet check to monitor his progress, and we were thrilled to see he’s gained 5 pounds since arriving, now weighing 45 pounds. He’s on a great path with his nutrition, and we’ll continue his current routine as he fills out and reaches a healthy weight and the ribs disappear.Yellow Labrador Mix Yellow Labrador MixKeller is a gentle, observant boy who likes to take in the world at his own pace. Around young children, he tends to hang back and watch from a comfortable distance, especially when things get a bit noisy or busy. Because of this, Keller would likely do best in a home with older children or a quieter environment where he can continue to build confidence and feel secure.Yellow Labrador MixIn our home, Keller has become very comfortable . He moves easily throughout the house—going upstairs without hesitation and even exploring the basement with curiosity.

Car rides are still a bit of a work in progress, as Keller can get a little nervous. We make sure he’s safely clipped into a seatbelt harness so he feels secure.

He’s always so happy when we pull back into the garage—he clearly loves that sense of comfort and routine.

We look forward to Keller finding that same feeling in his forever home. He truly is a very sweet, easygoing boy who is simply looking for love and a peaceful place to lay his head.Yellow Labrador Mix

Keller Day 3 🐾

Yellow Labrador Retriever MixKeller slept well again last night in his crate—he’s really settling into a nice routine.

Last evening, Keller spent time snuggled up on the couch with Ellie, Frank, and me…basically becoming a warm, furry blanket! Frank eventually had to jump down—it was a bit too cozy for his taste.

This morning I was out, so Mark took over “foster duty,” and everything went smoothly. At one point, Mark had a meeting and left Keller loose in the TV room with Frank and Ellie. When he came back, all three were still snoozing—always a great sign!

It looks like Keller may do just fine being left for short periods…fingers crossed. Our next step will be putting that theory to the test by actually leaving the house 😁

We took Keller on his first leash walk yesterday. We had been holding off, thinking it might feel a little overwhelming for him—but once again, he surprised us.

He was a delight—taking his time with appropriate  sniffing and walking gently on a loose leash right by our side.

Don’t think this was his first trip out on a leash hopefully he was getting outings while at the shelter.

He wasn’t quite ready to say hello to the neighbor up close, but he handled it well—staying at a distance where he felt comfortable and patiently waiting while we chatted.

We have a way to go in helping Keller reach a healthy weight, but it’s only day three and he’s already doing so well. He’s adjusting to new foods and a new routine, so we’re taking things slow and steady and  giving his body time to settle and gently building him back up.

Keller continues to show us what a gentle, sweet soul he is.❤️🐕

Keller had another great night. He slept peacefully in his crate with our two dogs in the same room and didn’t make a sound.

We’ll continue giving him some time in the crate since he’s so relaxed about it—it’s a great skill to maintain if his future family chooses to use one.

As we continue getting to know him, we’re pretty confident that  he’ll do just fine sleeping freely in a gated room with our two for company. He’s such a calm, easygoing pup around our guys.Yellow Labrador MixKeller is really enjoying spending time outside on the deck now that the weather is getting a little warmer. It may not be quite like the South Carolina climate he’s used to—but perhaps he’s appreciating the fewer bugs!Yellow Labrador Mix Yellow Labrador MixKeller seems to have chosen our Ellie as his official snuggle buddy, and she doesn’t seem to mind one bit. Although, knowing Ellie, it might have more to do with not wanting to give up her favorite spot on the chaise lounge!Yellow Labrador MixKeller is still a bit skittish when we first come into a room—he’ll duck under the kitchen table—but as soon as we sit down, he comes right over looking for affection. And he definitely loves his affection! Be prepared—your arm might just fall off from all the leg tickles he  demands.Yellow Labrador MixTo help ease those initial nerves, we’re just going about our normal routines and letting him come to us on his own terms. Little by little, he’s getting used to everyday household noises… even the sound of Chris shouting at the Phillies. It gonna be a long season! ⚾️😄

Hi everyone—meet Keller. 🐾

Keller is about a year and a half old and so handsome. His eyes are so soft, with just the tiniest hint of eyeliner that makes them even more expressive.Yellow Labrador MixKeller was rescued after being abandoned when his family was evicted from their home. He has been in a shelter in South Carolina since last October.

After his rescue flight yesterday with “Pilots To The Rescue”, Keller was understandably exhausted and a bit nervous. Even so, he ate well, had a quick rinse to wash off the shelter dust, and then was ready to meet our two rascals, Frankie and Ellie.

This was one of the easiest, most relaxed introductions we’ve ever had. They all just seemed to fall into step together. Keller greeted them gently with a couple of kisses and has been watching and copying them ever since.

Honestly, it felt like Keller was simply relieved to be around other dogs again—his whole body seemed to relax almost immediately.Yellow Labrador MixKeller currently weighs just 40 pounds and needs to gain at least 20–30 pounds. We’re feeding him frequent, small meals to help his body adjust gradually and safely.

He was a bit startled when the TV was turned on and retreated behind the couch at first, but it didn’t take long for him to figure things out. By the end of the evening, he had settled in and was snuggled up comfortably on the couch.Yellow Labrador MixLast night we settled Keller into his crate, which he had no problem with at all. He slept in the same room as our two dogs, and we didn’t hear a peep all night.

When I got up at 6 a.m., Keller was already sitting up, ready to head outside and take care of business.

And yes—this is a big plus and a wonderful thing for both us and Keller—he appears to be house trained! 🎉🐾

Stay tuned for more Keller adventures—new experiences, growing confidence, and plenty of love coming his way! 🐾❤️

Mark, Chris, and I drove up to Essex County Airport in NJ this afternoon to pick up young Keller from his rescue flight from North Carolina with the amazing Pilots To The Rescue.  You can see Keller’s television debut here: https://www.wect.com/2026/03/31/rescue-organization-flies-6-dogs-north-carolina-new-jersey/

Yellow Labrador MixHe was understandably exhausted, timid, and unfortunately a bit airsick after his journey. Despite that, he quietly hopped into the crate in our van and slept peacefully the entire ride home. Yellow Labrador MixHe was very interested in meeting Frank and Ellie—it’s clear he’s been around other dogs before, as he is incredibly gentle and respectful with them.

Keller is quite underweight, but otherwise he appears to be in good condition.

He is a very gentle, quiet boy—timid for now—but with the help of our two easygoing resident pups, we’re hopeful he’ll soon realize just how safe, loved, and deserving he truly is of a wonderful home.Yellow Labrador MixMore updates to come as we get to know young Keller better. 🐾❤️
