Kiara Black Labradoodle/German Shepherd Mix Female 4 Months Old ID #3776

black puppy

Meet Kiara!! This sweetheart was part of an accidental litter between neighbors in Arkansas.  Their Mom is a pure-bred German Shepherd and Dad is a chocolate Labradoodle. Kiara was 1 of 9 in the litter, and grew up with her Mom and siblings until she was transferred to foster care with Monticello Second Chance Fur Dogs Rescue at 8 weeks.  As they are inundated with litters of abandoned puppies and adult dogs, they reached out to Brookline to help place the puppies into loving homes.  Kiara is now in a Brookline foster home.  Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about this adorable girl!

Hi Friends!  It’s me, Kiara, checking in again.  I’ve had 9 more days with foster Mom since the last update.Labradoodle/GS MixFoster mom says my funny belly in the car is just from nerves, whatever those are… so she’s been taking me for rides almost everyday.  Now she lets me sit in the front seat right next to her and she pets me and I feel sooo much better. We also end up at really fun places.  I’ve been to parks, and two pet stores.  I get to see lots of other dogs and people after our ride which makes me super happy.  I love getting pets from everyone I meet, and the butt sniffing has been amazing…  I’ve met big dogs, and little dogs and I love them all!Labradoodle/GS Mix Labradoodle/GS MixFoster Mom also took me on a really long ride.  She said it took us almost an hour!  Foster Mom said that she was really proud that I could ride the whole way two times and my belly didn’t go inside out!  Where we ended up was pretty cool too.  It was a place that trains dogs where we were meeting some people from Main Line Deputy Dog.  They wanted to see if I could pass some tests to see if I’d be a good service dog.  I met 3 nice ladies, and 2 men and a little boy.  I was really happy to see them all. One lady, named Mary, came with some mozzarella cheese and said she wanted to see what I could do.  Well, I think I did everything perfectly because she was super impressed and said that I was very smart and focused and that I’d make a great potential trainee. It was a busy day so  when I got home, I was ready for a nap!Labradoodle/GS MixSpeaking of cheese… my foster family had my foster Grandma over and she brought us all some cheese!  I love cheese. Foster Mom said I could have a taste if I sat nicely and didn’t try to steal any.  Grandma couldn’t believe how good I was even with the cheese right there at nose level.Labradoodle/GS Mix Labradoodle/GS Mix Labradoodle/GS MixFoster Mom says I should tell you that I not always perfect. Who can pass up a little fun with toilet paper… It rolls out so perfectly when you pull it!Labradoodle/GS MixFoster Mom has been teaching me some new tricks like “over” and “spin” since I know “sit”, “come”, “wait” and “down” pretty well. Now, I’m really good at playing fetch even in the rain!

I’m not sure if I like snow or rain better.  The end results are both so fun to play in.

I really like to go exploring in the woods!  Sometimes, I find something really stinky and try to keep it all to myself since foster mom usually wants it too. Foster mom says I shouldn’t pick up those stinky bits of things but I say “finders keepers”! I also like to play keep away with shoes and my toys too.

I hope that my forever family is out there reading all about me and think that I am perfect and say they want to take me home!  I hope they have fun toys too..

I’m growing bigger every day and learning lots of new things.  Ohhh that reminds me, it’s just about time to eat and then nap so I gotta go….  Labradoodle/GS MixSniffs & Licks from Kiara

Hi Everyone!  Foster Mom said it was my turn to update the blog!  I’ve been in my new foster home since last Friday and boy have I been busy and having so much fun! My foster mom also likes to take a lot of pictures and video of me because she says she’s never seen quite so amazing as mine!  She told me there are one of a kind!Labradoodle/GS Mix

I’ve been having a great time exploring my new yard, there is so much to sniff around here! I like to walk around the yard with foster mom but I especially like running after my foster fur brother Sammy!

I am obsessed with him and always try to do whatever he is doing. Foster mom keeps telling me he can be grouchy with new friends and not to get too close but I just think he’s fabulous and even though he can be one scary dude, I keep trying to convince him that I just want to be his friend and snuggle and share his sticks. Labradoodle/GS MixHe keeps saying no… I just don’t get it because I’m so cute!

Foster mom says it’s better if I sleep on my own dog bed and find my own sticks for now!!  I’m fine with that especially when my bed is right in front of the fireplace.Labradoodle/GS Mix Labradoodle/GS MixI like going on walks but foster mom thinks I do so much better when Sammy gets to go too. I must admit that I do like to sniff around a lot and occasionally like to play tug with the leash when its just me. When Sammy comes,  I’m just trying to keep up with the big guy and walk along next to him. Labradoodle/GS MixFoster mom has been teaching me about playing fetch so now when she throws the squeaky tennis ball for me, sometimes I bring it back to her and I drop it when she gives me a treat.  Sometimes, I just like to run after it and chew on that squeaky thing!

I also like to play tug with my people.

One thing  I really don’t want to talk about is that big moving thing that foster mom calls the car.  I don’t know what it is about that thing but everytime I get in it my stomach starts doing somersaults. Foster Mom keeps taking me for rides so I can just get used to it.  She thinks that its just nerves.  Yesterday, foster mom took me on a trip to the city to go say hello to my sister Hazel who just got adopted.  The ride there wasn’t so good but the ride home was so much better.  I just sat next to foster mom in the front seat and slept while she petted me. It was fun seeing my sister and her new family! Labradoodle/GS MixI met Hazel’s little girl. I liked giving her licks but she didn’t really like when I put my paws on her shoulders to do it. She did have the perfect sized chair for me though..Labradoodle/GS MixI was a little jealous that Hazel had a new family to love but Hazel told me I just need to be patient and I’ll find the perfect family for me too!  Until they come along, I’m having a great time with my foster family and learning lots of new things!Labradoodle/GS Mix

Kiara is just about 4 months old and boy has she grown and of course gotten more adorable! And those ears!!  Oh my gosh, they cutely flop in so many ways. I’ve been trying to capture each one!Labradoodle/GS MixLabradoodle/GS Mix Labradoodle/GS MixKiara was matched with an adopter but after about 4 weeks they realized that they had overestimated their ability to meet her play and training needs with their work schedules and she was returned to Brookline.  Raising a puppy is no joke!  It take lots of time and patience and of course treats!

Kiara has been here in her new foster home for 24 hrs and has settled right in. She is an active pup and requires a good amount of daily physical and mental exercise.  The combination of her breeds makes her highly intelligent so when it comes to being a puppy with that breed combination, a well exercised and stimulated puppy makes a very good puppy in the house.

When she first arrived yesterday, she met Sammy the resident dog.  She is good with other dogs and just wants desperately to be their friend. Sammy can initially be standoffish with new fosters and grumbly and just a plain jerk sometimes.  Kiara tried hard to show Sammy that she was friendly and Sammy played some chase with her.  Labradoodle/GS MixWe spent about an hour outside, playing and exploring the woods, and then came inside so she could check out her new home.

Kiara is curious, and confident and was busy checking out the toy bins and all the parts of the house. After that we settled in the office so I could get some paperwork done and Kiara took a nap after chewing on a collagen stick. Labradoodle/GS Mix Labradoodle/GS MixLabradoodle/GS MixLater in the afternoon and in the evening, we kept her busy with squeaky toys, food puzzles and marrow bones. She sat nicely on her bed while we ate our dinner. Labradoodle/GS Mix

And chewed away on a bone, while we relaxed in front of the fire.

We had lots quick trips outside to potty through out the day.  I am happy to report that she had no accidents in the house and does all her business outside on demand.Labradoodle/GS MixShe slept well over night in the guest room with me.  I took her out at 1:30am since I was up myself, and then we slept in until 6am.  She slept soundly in the bed next to me all night and only got up because I did.

We’ve been keeping busy today too.  We did our early morning walk around the yard and she discovered some sticks.

We took a mile walk with Sammy at the park early in the morning.  She did a great job walking on the harness and kept right up with Sammy.

Once we got back, we headed out to Vetco to get her Rabies vaccination.  Kiara rides well in the car, but she does seem to get car sick even on short rides so I’m going to have to get some ginger snap cookies to give to hear before getting in the car next time to see if that helps with her nausea.  I read that ginger 30 mins before a ride helps as does cracking the windows, and making sure they finish eating 2 hrs before a ride.  Hopefully, she will grow out of this with more trips as sometimes car sickness is just a puppy thing.

After all the excitement of the day, Kiara is now napping while I write this post!!  Labradoodle/GS MixStay tuned for more updates on this smart, sweet and beautiful girl.

Kiara continues to improve with her housebreaking skills. She is such a smart puppy! Kiara has learned that if she rings the bell and goes potty outside, she will get a treat. She has also learned to ring the bell just to see if foster Dad might give her a treat just for sitting pretty in front of the treat cabinet 😂

Her leash skill continue to need work but I have no doubt with consistency, she will be an expert before long.black puppy She is doing well with commands “sit”, “touch” and “come” but struggles with “stay” especially at meal times.black puppy

Kiara is very inquisitive and can find a way to squeeze her body in tight spaces (behind the toilet, in the bottom of the cat house, or behind the playpen).black puppy Speaking about the cat, Gladys has made it known to Kiara that there is only one queen in this castle and it ain’t her. Kiara is always very cautious when the cat walks by.

Kiara loves to be outside and explore the backyard and she is so thankful that foster Dad didn’t rake the leaves in the fall because they are so much fun to play in!

She also loves an afternoon nap being warmed by

the sun but also doesn’t mind some alone time in her crate.black puppy

She really is the sweetest puppy and we are so proud of how far she has come in the last week.

Night 3 went well also. After 1 small accident, I am happy to report that Kiara has been ringing the bell to alert us that she needs to potty! Kiara loves running and playing in the backyard and has a funny, determined streak—she’s convinced there must be a secret escape route along the fence and keeps checking (no luck so far!). She also likes to “challenge” the 120-lb Bernese Mountain Dog next door, who looks at her like, “That’s your bark?” It’s hilarious.

At the end of the day, Kiara is a true cuddle bug. She loves to snuggle, settles easily, and wants to be by your side whenever possible. Her fur is unbelievably soft, her disposition is gentle and sweet, and she’s going to make an amazing companion for a lucky family.black puppy

Her second overnight with us went well too. She slept from 11:30 PM until 3:00 AM and went out for a potty break and a little bit of playtime. She’s a very curious pup! and figured out very quickly where the treats were kept!

After another quick trip outside to pee she went back into the crate when I left for work at 4:30 AM and slept until 7:30 AM. My son decided to work from home on Monday and kept her on the schedule of potty breaks and playtime every two hours in between naps in the crate. She did well with only one miss during the day. We also learned that she’s a very dependable “pooper” and will go within 10 minutes of eating her breakfast, lunch and dinner. She is super smart and very eager to please. My son‘s girlfriend has been working with her to learn sit, and on Monday night we were able to teach her to ring the bell on the back door. She’s a fast learner.

Kiara joined our family on Saturday evening and settled in beautifully right from the start. She was a little sad saying goodbye to her sister, but before we even left the neighborhood, she was fast asleep in my arms. When we got home, she was greeted by my sons—who fell in love instantly!black puppy

Her first night went better than expected. I slept downstairs to be closer to her. After a brief protest, she settled into her crate and slept until 3:30 AM, then went right back down until 6:00 AM after a potty break and some belly rubs. Since then, she’s continued to impress us with how quickly she’s adjusting to a routine.

She spent Sunday morning with foster dad because I was called into work. He said she was very playful and had a great appetite. She has loads of puppy energy

She had a few potty accidents in the house, but improved after he started a routine of taking her out every hour and giving her nap time in the crate. When I got home from work, we had some family over to watch the Eagles game. She doesn’t seem to be bothered by loud noise. She slept through all of the yelling and cursing that happened throughout that game. She really loved being around people and being the center of attention. She’s very social and loves to snuggle. She was also very curious about my one-year-old granddaughter and kept circling her play yard.black puppy

She’s so incredibly smart and eager to please, a true love bug 🥰
