Koko #3 Black Labrador Retriever Female 8 Months Old ID #3770

Koko was left behind after being let out of a car, but two kind strangers saw what happened and immediately stepped in to help. They lovingly cared for her for a week and then reached out to Brookline Lab Rescue, who are now working hard to find her a forever home. Please read the blog from the bottom up.

It was quite the eventful day for Koko! We discovered we have a little escape artist because when I checked the pet camera, she was casually lounging on the couch after getting out of her crate. I ended up leaving work early to check on her, and thankfully she didn’t get into nearly as much trouble as I expected. She did have one accident in the house, but otherwise she was just happy to have me home.

We went on a long walk to help tire her out, and she loved exploring the neighborhood. She was very appreciative of the neighbors who shoveled, though she seemed a bit surprised each time she broke through a layer of snow or ice.

Her fecal test came back completely negative, and her ear is looking much better than when we first got her. She’s still doing great with her medication and continues to be such a good girl.

Koko is almost ready to head home with her forever family so keep your eyes peeled for her availability status!

Koko is a sweetie pie with so much love to give. She’s still adjusting to being crated when we’re not home, and while it’s hard leaving her when she cries at first, our pet camera shows that she does settle after a little while, which is reassuring. She would do best in a home where someone is around more often than not (someone who works from home would be an ideal fit for her).

Koko would benefit from a slow feeder, as she eats her meals in under 10 seconds. We vacuumed today and she was definitely wary of it, sticking close to my husband for protection from the “big bad vacuum,” which was pretty endearing. She’s great at communicating her needs and gave me a nudge to ask to go outside, happily accepting treats as a reward.

She remains very calm when getting her ear drops and continues to be gentle and trusting. Koko loves playing tug-of-war with my resident dog and then curling up for cuddles with a human once she’s tired.

She’s a loving and affectionate girl.black labrador retriever

Koko had another great day in her foster home! She’s mastered the art of engaging my resident dog in play at all hours of the day. Watching her prance around in 15 inches of snow was an absolute joy, but sadly, no photos of that moment because I was busy prancing right alongside her. She truly seems like the happiest dog.

After some snowy fun, Koko came inside and enjoyed a long, well-deserved nap.

We had no counter surfing today, though it’s clear she’s very food-motivated and eager to please. She loves being a good girl and earning treats for listening to her foster mom. She has “sit” down and is starting to understand “crate.”

We did have one accident, but it was her first time exploring the unfinished basement, so I think she may have mistaken it for city streets. She follows my resident dog everywhere and I truly believe she would thrive in a home with another dog.black labrador retriever Koko is a total cuddle bug and would flourish with someone who can shower her with love every day.black labrador retriever

She happily enjoyed some peanut butter while my husband gave her ear drops. She’s such a trooper. Koko is an angel dog and will be a wonderful addition to a very lucky family.

Koko’s introduction to her foster home has been seamless. She settled in quickly and became fast friends with my resident dog.black labrador retriever Compared to my chocolate lab, Koko is very chill, though she still has plenty of puppy energy and occasionally tries to initiate playtime. Her demeanor is calm and affectionate, and she’s always ready to share love with my husband and me.

I took her to the vet because she arrived at the rescue with a bleeding ear, and the doctor diagnosed an ear infection.black labrador retriever She’s now on medication and has been amazing about it—she sits very still and lets us put in her ear drops without any trouble. She was quiet in the car, likely because she had such a long day, and she even fell asleep at the vet!black labrador retriever

Do you like Costco rotisserie chicken? Because Koko definitely does. If given the chance, she’ll happily counter-surf for food, but with a firm “no,” she’ll drop it and gives you the most apologetic puppy eyes. She just wants to enjoy what everyone else is having! She’s very food-motivated, which has been helpful as we use treats to get her comfortable with the crate. She’s a fast learner. She definitely likes it better when we’re in the same room when she’s in the crate. black labrador retrieverWhen we left for errands, it took her some time to lay down and relax. We have a pet camera, so it was nice to know that she did eventually fall asleep.

We put her crate in our bedroom at night, and she only woke up when I got up to use the bathroom. I took her outside in the middle of the night, she peed, and then went right back into the crate to sleep for the rest of the night. So far, we’ve had no accidents—though we’ve been home and letting her out frequently.

She has no idea that tomorrow she’ll get to run around in inches of snow, and I can’t wait to see her reaction!
