Lance #2 Yellow Labrador Retriever Male 8 Years Old ID #3567

Meet Lance: The Sock Bandit With a Heart of Gold 🧦💛Yellow Labrador Retriever

Allow us to introduce Lance—an 8-year-old, cream-colored English Lab with movie-star looks, a zest for life, and… a slight misunderstanding about what qualifies as food.

Lance recently found himself at the vet after his previous family made the difficult decision to surrender him due to life changes—and, well, his impressive (and expensive) hobby of eating things like socks and eye drops. While his culinary choices are questionable at best, his former family clearly cared deeply and wanted him to have the best chance at a happy, safe life. Enter: Foster Mom (FM), Foster Dad (FD), and their resident dog crew. Please read his blog from bottom to top.

The Meet & Greet (a.k.a. “Will Melissa Approve?”)

Before making things official, FM and FD brought their chocolate Lab, Melissa (self-appointed CEO of the household), to meet Lance at the vet. First impressions matter, especially when Melissa prefers to be the alpha.

FM took Lance out for a much-needed walk after his 8-day kennel stay. He came in hot—pulling, huffing, puffing—but eventually settled into a more civilized stroll. Meanwhile, FD and Melissa approached from a distance. No barking. No drama. Promising!

As they got closer, Lance showed a bit of enthusiasm (understandable—new friends!), and Melissa issued a polite but firm “I’m in charge here” grumble. Message received. Moments later, they were mostly ignoring each other… until Lance sealed the deal by rolling onto his back for belly rubs and completely winning over FD. Classic move, Lance.

Freedom Ride & First Adventures

After confirming his microchip, updating his vaccines, and saying goodbye to his biggest fans at the vet, Lance hopped into FM’s car and headed to his foster home.

But first—adventure! FM wisely took Lance and Melissa on a 2-mile hike in the woods to burn off energy and build some neutral ground bonding time before heading home. Both dogs did great! There may have been a brief, suspicious encounter with horse manure (Lance says: “10/10 would try again”), but FM was quick on her feet. Jury’s still out on whether he got a tiny “snack.” 🙈

Meeting the Whole Crew

Back home, Lance met the household’s senior yellow Lab, Freda. There was a quick sniff, a mutual agreement to mind their own business, and peace was declared.

Dinner was served—separately, of course. Lance doesn’t just eat… he INHALES. Even with a slow feeder, it’s less “dining” and more “competitive sport.” Given that both Lance and Melissa are highly food-motivated, all meals (and even meal prep) happen under strict supervision and separation. No one’s taking chances with flying kibble.

After dinner? Total collapse. Lance found his dog bed and powered down like he’d just completed a marathon.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Night One: Success!

At bedtime, Lance needed just a little encouragement to enter his crate—but once inside, he slept soundly through the night. Gold star, Lance!

Day Two: The Learning Curve

Morning brought excitement! FD let Lance out of his crate, and he bolted upstairs to greet FM and his new housemates. Everyone headed downstairs for the morning routine… and FM quickly learned an important lesson:

👉 Lance must go outside immediately.

He couldn’t quite hold it and had a little accident while waiting to be leashed. FM takes full responsibility—lesson learned!

After a quick walk and successful potty break, FM headed out for a run while Lance relaxed in his crate (with the proper treat-based incentive, of course). Breakfast was served and, unsurprisingly, inhaled. Another walk followed before FM left for an appointment. Lance remained calm and content in his crate—such a good boy.

Workday Vibes & Toy Temptations

The rest of the day was filled with naps in FM’s office and a couple of leisurely walks. We also discovered Lance LOVES toys—but since all toys technically belong to Melissa (according to Melissa), everything was put away before excitement levels could escalate. Safety first, fun later.Yellow Labrador Retriever

Evening Adventure & Sweet Dreams

To wrap up the day, Lance enjoyed a 3-mile hike in the woods. Despite the summer-like heat (and some enthusiastic huffing and puffing), he loved every second.

Dinner followed (again, inhaled), and now? He’s snoozing peacefully on the couch next to FM as this blog is being written. Not a bad life upgrade, Lance.

The Bottom Line

Lance is a lovable, goofy, affectionate Lab who is settling in beautifully. He’ll thrive in an experienced home that understands his one big quirk: he is an ingestion risk. Socks, random objects, mystery items—if it’s within reach, Lance may consider it fair game.

With the right, savvy family who can manage his environment and keep him safe, Lance is going to make an incredibly loyal, fun, and snuggly companion.
