Lexi #7 Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 6 Years Old ID#3561

Yellow Labrador Retriever Everyone meet “Red Lexi.”  Lexi is a friendly, easy going 6yo “Red Fox” Yellow Labrador who had free roam on her breeding farm.  Lexi has had two litters, her last in 2022 where she had six puppies.  Lexi is now leaving her breeding life on the farm and is settling into foster care.  Please read her blog from the bottom up.

Red Lexi has had a fun week.Yellow Labrador RetrieverOur first ever foster  “Yellow Lexi” was here for the week while her parents have fun in Hawaii.

After a few little jealous looks from Yellow Lexi, because this is her house! They have been great pals and love to play tug of war.

And yes it has been as confusing as it sounds having two Lexi’s here, correcting one and the other wondering why they are in trouble! So we have resorted to just saying HEY!Yellow Labrador RetrieverRed Lexi has settled into our random routine.

As we have seen before in the third week of a foster she has become a little more cheeky.

She did counter surf one night when we went up to bed, she grabbed her bowl off the counter which had some dog food in it, so can’t blame her.

She is also getting up on the couch now for snuggles after the last walk of the day which is nice but she is a big girl!

Speaking of which she is down to 77 pounds from the 85 when she arrived.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexi has one more week of antibiotics for her skin, which has fully healed, and then she will be spayed on April 3rd.

Lexi is absolutely loving the comfort of home life! She sleeps soundly through the night on her mat by the glass deck door, where she can gaze out and keep an eye on the nighttime happenings.

When we went out for a couple of hours and left her in the kitchen away from our dogs, she handled it like a champ—she was just relaxing on her mat when we returned, with no signs of anxiety or mischief. Such a good girl!

Leash walking is great . She just pootles along at a Lexi pace.

She does everything in slow motion even retrieving a tennis ball (she has expanded  her tastes to green tennis balls!).

On a night walk she does alert to things she thinks she sees, in particular lawn signs in peoples

front yards!!

We took her for a walk in the park at the weekend and she met several dogs on leash. She behaved well just wiggly and curious with sniffing.Yellow Labrador Retrievertook Lexi to have her nails trimmed yesterday as she has a few nails that grow towards her foot pads. Consistent nail trimming will be essential for Lexi to keep her comfortable and prevent the nails from damaging the pads.

Of course she was excellent while having her nails done.

We weighed her while we were there and she had lost 5 pounds already, weighing in at 80 pounds.

All Lexis blood tests and parasite tests came back negative for any issues.

Her skin condition has cleared up amazingly quickly on the antibiotics, and she actually had hair under the dry skin, so she looks great.Yellow Labrador RetrieverWe have been feeding her a fish-based food and adding fish oil supplements to help her recover.

Lexi will be spayed in a couple of weeks and, after recovering will be ready to find her favorite sleeping spot in a forever home.

Lexi has settled into her foster home! This sweet pup has embraced indoor living with enthusiasm, proving that even former outdoor dogs can enjoy the comforts of a home.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexi has showed just how adaptable and eager she is to be part of the family. She sleeps peacefully through the night, no crate needed, she has free roam of the house and has had no accidents- an impressive feat for a dog adjusting to a brand-new environment!

At night Lexi is kept separated  from our two dogs because Lexi has fallen in love with our Frank and follows him around sniffing him .  Hopefully this will decrease after she is spayed and her hormones decrease , but who can blame her he is handsome!Yellow Labrador RetrieverAn amusing quirk about Lexi is her reaction to rainy weather. Despite her history as an outdoor dog, she is not a fan of wet conditions. When faced with a rainy day, she simply lays by the open door and refuses to step outside, as if waiting for the storm to pass. It’s entirely possible that in her previous life, she lounged under shelter, watching the raindrops until the skies cleared.

Lexi had her vet visit and weighed in at 83 pounds! She received her vaccinations, got microchipped, and was put on antibiotics for a skin condition. Luckily, she takes her pills with no issues at all, making her care routine a breeze.

In a fun and unexpected discovery, Lexi has shown a playful side—she loves retrieving tennis balls! She pounces on them like a puppy and eagerly drops them at your feet for another round. But Lexi has a unique preference—only red tennis balls will do!

Lexi has met our granddaughter several times this week . She loves interacting with her, showing a special curiosity for Mabel’s talking baby dolls. Whenever the dolls cry, Lexi adorably tips her head as if she’s trying to understand what’s going on!Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexi is also getting used to traveling in the van. She gets in and out easily, but she still needs a bit more practice to feel fully comfortable on the road. A few more short trips to nowhere will help her learn to settle and handle the turns with ease.

Next on the list of things to learn for Red Lexi is leash walking—stay tuned!

We picked up Lexi yesterday from Deb H’s house. Thanks Deb for transport and everyone that evaluated her .

Lexi is super sweet.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexi had no issues coming into the house and meeting Ellie and Frank.

We have a dog scale here and she weighed in at 85lbs  not the 65 the farmer thought .

Checked the scale by measuring Frankie, who loved that he was not the heaviest in the house!!

So we will work on losing some pounds as she is not that tall, like ours.    Although her feet are huge!Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexi is eating well from a raised bowl, she shows no food aggression and takes treats so gently they almost fall out of her mouth.

So far no accidents in the house ,I take her out frequently .  She is marking in our back yard just to tell everyone she is here.

Yesterday she was exhausted as you can see from the pictures she couldn’t keep her eyes open so we put off bath time until today.Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador RetrieverIt took two of us to get her in the shower as she planted her 85lbs and wasn’t moving.

Note to self don’t let her outside thinking she would run around to dry off she decided she wanted the mud back, hope you can see the video!

Lexi slept through the night on the living room carpet .   She snores.

I slept on the couch just to see how she managed and she literally didn’t move all night.

Lexi doesn’t react to noises in the house, even our dogs barking not sure if this is hearing or behavioral.

I feel like she may have spent a lot of time alone on the farm, she almost seems surprised when we talk to her and engage her in play, but she gets very wiggly when we do.

Lexi does have some dry skin and hair loss on her shoulders and neck but she is not scratching. She does chew the underside of her feet but not often.

Lexi is still getting to know Frank and Ellie and engages them by sniffing them, which they don’t like, so I am correcting that behavior with a distraction and praise when she stops.Yellow Labrador RetrieverAs far as I know there were no other dogs on the farm for her to learn from. She is not aggressive just uses her weight and gets a bit worked up.

Lexi has a vet appointment tomorrow for shots and health check.

Today Lexi is showing her true personality and living up to her AKC name  “Lively Lexi Of Lancaster” !!
