Lexie #5 Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 3 Years Old ID#3408

Yellow Labrador RetrieverMeet Lexie!  Her farmer decided he didn’t want to use her for breeding purposes anymore and surrendered her to Brookline.  This lucky girl is now getting settled in her foster home.  Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about her.

Lexie had her orthopedic surgery consult this week. Sadly, she does need TPLO surgery on both legs, but on a positive note the surgery will give her bionic legs and she can be the young pup she is longing to be.Yellow Labrador RetrieverRecovery will be long and restricting for her. We have been through this surgery with one of our dogs  so we know how difficult it can be but well worth the struggle! Despite her legs Lex is loving, happy, playful. She had fun at the meet and greet in Conshohocken.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLex is getting quite chatty, She sits in front of us and asks to go out to be busy, and is the first to start saying its time for the last walk of the day which is at 9.30pm but she thinks we should go at 7pm!Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe does have separation anxiety does not like being left cries and pushes against gates. We are working on her not barging through doors first.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe must be on a leash or behind a gate if a door to the street or driveway is opened because she will push past head butting any glass storm doors.

Lex has a journey in front of her but with love and support she will get there.

Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexie girl was spayed last week and recovered well.

She is still on restrictions for her knees so is getting very good at leash walking.

Lex has an appointment with a specialist in two weeks to help with  her arthritis.

Lexie is a people dog, has to know where everyone is. She gets up every time we do!  We’re trying to rest her knees so we are binge watching Monk while she is here!

She likes to chew so we are encouraging nyla bones rather than chewing the ears and noses off stuffed toys or my slippers.

She loves a car ride and is always thrilled when we end up back home again.

Lexie has been with us for over a week and has been a delight.

A trip to Pennridge for an x-ray show her limping is due to arthritis in both back knees as a result of previously untreated injuries.  They want her to rest and take some anti-inflammatories for a couple of weeks to see if there is any improvement.  She is also booked in to see an orthopedic specialist to find out the best treatment for her as she is only three,  poor little girl.Yellow Labrador RetrieverBefore being put on restricted activity by the vet, she did master coming down the stairs. She’s very determined!

She is also eating out of an appropriate dog bowl hooray!

Lexie will be spade on the 16th so she will be keeping it pretty low key for a few days any way.

Today, she received her Foster Box.  She loves everything especially the stuffed toys and promises to share with Frankie and Ellie, maybe. Yellow Labrador Retriever

Lexie is doing great! She is definitely a velcro dog so don’t expect to go anywhere alone again!

She is pulling on the backs of my pants if she wants attention, and nose bobbing our dogs when she wants them to play.  She likes to play fetch.

She is now eating off a dinner plate thanks to our mentors suggestion, so progress from hand feeding.

Lexie is not food motivated at all will stop eating and wander off much to the joy of our dogs!

Her thing is stuffed toys to the extent she chases down Ellie and Frank if they have one, steals it, puts it in her pile and lays on them.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe has started to chew slippers and shoes even if your feet are still in them!

We went for our first walk around the block and she did really well.  She walked in a forward direction with lots of sniffing, bit of bobbing and weaving in front of me but I was very pleased that she kinda knew how to do it.

Lexie is enjoying her time with the resident labs and is getting more sassy with her new friends!Yellow Labrador Retriever

She had her vet visit today for shots and microchip and weighed in at 74 pounds which surprised us as she seems stocky compared to our two.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe was perfect for the car ride and her visit to the pet store. Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe did get a bit excited when the people in front bought out 4 poodle puppies from a stroller!Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexie was very quiet for her shots and blood draw.  She’s very strong so she did pull her leg back when they were doing the blood draw but that wasn’t an issue.Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe’s doing well going upstairs but nervous about coming down so we are working on that with the resident dogs showing her how its done.Yellow Labrador Retriever

She slept on our bedroom floor last night but doesn’t like dog beds or furniture yet. We are still working on eating out of a bowl.

Lexie still loves muddy puddles!Yellow Labrador Retriever

Lexie arrived to our home yesterday.  She rode in the back and rested on our son for the ride.Yellow Labrador Retriever

She did very well meeting the resident dogs, and was very friendly with both our male and female resident labs. Yellow Labrador Retriever

She absolutely loves trawling through the puddles we have in the yard after all the rain, so that’s “fun,” but she was very calm for her shower after all the splashing. She is patrolling the fence perimeter but does come in with our other dogs when called.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexie loves to kiss everyone including our dogs which you can get a bit much for them, so have been redirecting her.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexie is a very sweet girl loves to be near everyone. She is interested in what we are doing. I’m not sure if she’s been in a house before, but she’s very comfortable and loves to see what’s in the fridge. She loves kids!

Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe was dry all night with no accidents, but we are still working out what she likes to eat.Yellow Labrador RetrieverLexie wanted company last night so foster dad slept with her. This morning, she was very happy and has already dug in the water bowl and trailed a toilet roll down the hall, lab classics! She loves stuffed toys with a squeaker and is not sure she wants to share them.  I did notice she started to rip one apart so we’ll watch her with that. Lexie does have a slight limp that was seen at her first evaluation so we will get her checked out for that.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe’s a very happy, lovely girl who just needs to read the room a bit but that’s to be expected. She makes good eye contact so she’s going to pick up cues quickly.Yellow Labrador RetrieverMany thanks to the volunteers that transported this sweet girl to us!

Lexie had her rescue ride off the farm today. Lexie is a 3 yr old yellow PB English lab with beautiful soulful brown eyes. She was a great passenger for both legs of her long journey.  I drove her on the second leg to meet her new foster family. She sat with her head on my lap for the ride and gave me sweet gentle kisses on the way to meet them.Yellow Labrador Retriever
