Luna #5 Black Labrador Retriever Mix Female 9 Months Old ID#2894

black labrador retriever mixLuna is a 9 month old black female lab mix who came up North from Mississippi. She was surrendered to her vet by the previous owners because they were not able to care for her. Luckily, Luna landed with a wonderful volunteer who got in touch with one of our volunteers to see if rescue help for Luna was available. She is up to date on her vaccines, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventatives. Luna is now safe in a foster home.  Please read her blog from the bottom up.

black labrador retriever mixThis girl Luna…..what a great girl! She now knows a few basic commands (sit, come), goes into her crate with minimal or no coaxing (and is quite content while in there) and has been able to make it in the crate without accidents while FM and FD are at work. She is nothing but happy to greet and entertain anyone who enters our home.

black labrador retriever mixWhile we were told that she was able to escape from the walls of a 4 foot pen while in her previous residence, we have not seen her attempt to escape our 4 ft fence at all, even after seeing deer in the field or when the FedEx delivery man showed up with boxes from Chewy! But, because of her known past, we’re going to recommend a fenced in yard. She displays some typical puppy behaviors from time to time but stops quickly with verbal commands from redirection – she’s such a quick learner and so eager to please. She truly just wants to be a part of the family/our pack. While she would likely enjoy another furry friend to play and be active with, we don’t think that it is a necessity as long as her owners are active with her.

black labrador retriever mixBecause of all of these great things, she would be going up as available tomorrow. However, she’s been having some tummy issues. We took her to the vet at the end of last week and we found out yesterday that she’s fighting some worms and parasites. She’s on a few medications and once we have things under control with her health, we’ll make her available for someone lucky to welcome her into their family!

black labrador retriever mixIn the words of our vet, when we had her there for her tummy issues, “She’s perfect.”

Luna continues to adapt well to her foster home and foster family.  She is eager to please and learn! However, she is still a puppy and she’s had little guidance before now. So she shows puppy behaviors – mouthy while playing, chews on household items, has had one accident in the house so working on house training. She is also VERY high energy. For all of these reasons, we’ll be looking for a very active family who is not afraid to seek training for Miss Luna. We believe that once she is further trained, she’ll be the perfect companion! She is so lovable and sweet….she just needs a little guidance and attention!

Hello! Miss Luna had another great day! She is starting to go into the crate more easily with just a little help from treats. Once in the crate, she didn’t make a sound and slept till morning. She had one accident in the house but is otherwise doing well with house training so far.

black labrador retriever mixToday, Luna met my grandmother, as well as our neighbor and his daughter…..she was more than ready to happily greet all of them and receive greetings from them as well!! FM and FD were busy with cleaning the house earlier in the day and she followed FM around the house, as well as enjoyed play time with her furry foster siblings!

She is curious about the steps to the basement, but we haven’t not been able to get her to go down them yet…..we’ll keep working on that!! Luna is catching on to the “sit” command and is starting to come when called by name. She does need to learn that household items/shoes are off limits and we will keep working on that, too! All in all, it was a good day….she’s a sweetheart who is seeking attention and love!

black labrador retriever mixShe’s here – we brought Luna home last night and she’s such a sweetheart! Intro to our pack went well last night, immediately followed by a bath (we’ve never seen such brown water from a dog which she seemed to enjoy. They all played for a while then it was bedtime. black labrador retriever mixShe was introduced to her crate and whimpered for a bit but then she quietly slept throughout the night! No accidents in the house so far! She has discovered the couch and toys and I think she loves both! She especially loves playing with her foster brothers and sisters, as well as getting attention/belly rubs from FM and FD!

black labrador retriever mixMore to come as we get to know this sweet girl!
