Meet Maverick – A True Companion Looking for His Second Chance
Maverick is a 7-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever mix with a heart full of love and resilience. He came to us after being surrendered to a shelter, where it was clear he had been neglected, emaciated, and underweight, along with two other dogs from the same home. Despite everything he endured, Maverick’s spirit remains unbroken. He is kind, gentle, and ready to embrace the love and care he’s always deserved.
Today, Maverick is safe, steadily gaining weight, and blossoming into the incredible dog he was meant to be. He’s in good health and simply needs nourishing food, companionship, and consistency. He may take a day or two to settle in, but once he does, he’ll be by your side—your shadow, your best friend, your loyal companion.
Maverick is extremely well-behaved in the home. He’s fully house-trained, doesn’t chew anything but his bone, doesn’t counter surf or get into trash, and is respectful of his space. He loves being near his people and lying at your feet while you work, keeping you company in the kitchen, or simply hanging out with the family. He thrives on inclusion, so a home where he’s treated as a member of the family, not just a pet, is exactly what he needs.
This sweet boy is very smart and easy to love. He goes with the flow and listens well, making him a great fit for a wide range of families. Maverick would do wonderfully in an active home with respectful kids over 5, or with a devoted single person or couple who wants a true companion. He would also do well with other dogs, but his behavior with cats is unknown.
Maverick is ready to leave his past behind and step into a future full of love, play, and belonging. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s looking for a family to finally call his own.
Could you be the one to give Maverick the amazing life he deserves?

It’s been a little over a week since Maverick arrived. He is a sweet, lovable, goofball. He loves to play with his toys, go for walks, and be with our resident dogs. He does really well in the house. He has been free-roaming since he arrived. No accidents or any negative behavior, no counter surfing or chewing, etc. He sleeps through the night, and when he wakes, he’s so happy to see you.
He brings a toy right to you, ready to start a happy day. He is well-trained. He listens so well and follows directions. It’s hard to believe he was treated unkindly and was in a shelter. Maverick really just wants to be loved and be with his family. He is a really wonderful dog. He met some family and a few neighbors. He was so friendly and snuggled with everyone. Maverick is easy-going and goes with the flow. He seems after only one week that’s he’s always been here. The only thing I think he needs consistent training in is his walking on lead. He pulls a little bit, nothing that cannot be corrected with training. He will be the best friend and companion in his forever home.

Day 2, Maverick had a great night’s sleep. He is much more relaxed today. He is fitting right in. Goes to the door to be let out. There was a concern about counter surfing. but he has not even tried. When in the kitchen, he sits and waits to see if you share. He is very smart and understands what he is being told. He sits and gives his paw. When I needed to redirect him, he listened and responded positively. He is playing with all the toys and is very good at sharing. He is eating well and is very food motivated, but being deprived of food for so long is understandable. Looking forward to him starting to gain weight. Maverick is super sweet and affectionate. He is playful but not overly excited. He had his big walk this morning, he did really well. He pulled some, but not difficult to walk. He was so cute last night; he was in the kitchen with my son, and then it got quiet. I looked over and he was sacked out with his stuffed animal on the floor. What a difference a day makes.

Today we met the amazing Maverick!! He’s a sweetheart. We met in PA to pick Mav up. He was a gentlemen and very sweet. He got right in the truck, and we took him to get a bath. He did so good he seemed to enjoy the bath. When we got home, he met our 2 labs, Mabel and Sadie. Happily, they hit it right off. They played in the yard and toured the house. He definitely needs to decompress, lots of nervous energy, but I think a couple of good nights’ sleep will do the trick. He goes right to the door to go out, and he is eating very well. He is very skinny, and we look forward to seeing him get to a healthy weight. Day 1 was great. I am surprised he was in the shelter as long as he was, but I think he was meant to be with Brookline and with us. Looking forward to a great weekend, getting Maverick settled in.
