Young Labrador Seeking New Role After Career Change

Mighty is a 4.5-year-old purebred chocolate beauty. She recently retired from her former career as a breeding mom and is seeking a permanent opportunity with a loving family offering excellent compensation and benefits in the form of food, shelter and love.

She is very smart and has already excelled in her new career as lover of humans.  Mighty is an equal opportunity loving professional and does not discriminate against any human on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin or ancestry, ethnicity, sex, pregnancy, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, past, current or prospective service in the uniformed services, genetic information, or physical or mental disability. She may discriminate based on the amount of love offered to her and on the basis of species.

Mighty’s excellent qualifications include:

  • Knowing the following commands: sit, stay, wait, off, no and lay down.
  • Eating slowly, savoring each piece of kibble individually. Treats are appreciated and accepted gently.
  • Offering affection and seeing only the goodness of humans.
  • Receiving affection. If she hasn’t received her quota, she will graciously offer reminders.
  • Walking well on a leash when no squirrels are present.
  • Spending time with her canine colleague, initiating play and playing nicely.
  • Chewing on bones and chew toys, playing with select toys, and avoiding items that are not meant for dogs.
  • House training: she only had one accident in the house
  • Sleeping through the night. She sleeps soundly and quietly and does not stir until her human gets up. She goes into her crate willingly.
  • Desire to please, listening, taking direction and learning from training opportunities most of the time.

Mighty is seeking to expand upon her existing training opportunities to reinforce good habits, including:

  • Refraining from chasing squirrels while on a leash.
  • Not jumping on her loved ones when they come home.
  • Tempering her occasional assertiveness in seeking attention and affection.

Mighty’s ideal position has the following features:

  • A household where she will have lots of attention and affection.
  • Someone home with her most of the time, if a resident dog is not home with her.
  • If a resident dog is present, the dog should not play aggressively
  • Mental stimulation, continued training, and exercise at least twice daily.
  • A fence that allows her to chase squirrels to her heart’s delight.
  • No cats, as it is not known how she would react.
  • A household with children at least 5 years old. While Mighty could not be sweeter or gentler when she encounters small children, because of her tendency to jump with excitement when arriving home, she needs to first learn better habits before living with a small child.

If you are interested in giving love to a sweet and beautiful young lady who will give you exponentially more love back, Ms. Mighty is your candidate.  Anyone would be lucky to have her.

It’s your Mighty fabulous girl. I continue to make Mighty fine progress adjusting to home life and to show myself as a Mighty good, sweet, affectionate and smart girl.Chocolate Labrador Retriever

I am starting to like my foster sister even more than I did before. I get Mighty playful in the morning and instigate play with her before breakfast.

That’s all over when breakfast is served because my foster sister is Mighty hungry. I am not so hungry. I take a sniff at my food, but prefer Foster Mom’s pets and attention.  After some coaxing to eat the first bits of my food, I humor foster mom by eating, making sure my bowl is Mighty clean…at least most of the time. Foster Mom put pumpkin in my food. That was Mighty yucky and I left it for my foster sister. Blech!

I went to the vet and was Mighty scared and shaky there. I didn’t like the office from the beginning, but I stayed with foster mom and did as she said.  The people at the office poked and prodded me and touched me all over. I stayed Mighty still and they complimented me for being a Mighty good girl. I found out I weigh 72 lbs.  FM thinks I should be a bit lighter, but told me not to fear; I am building up some Mighty good stamina with all of our walks.

The following day, Foster Mom took me to a rescue event in Langhorne.  I was Mighty scared at first. It made me feel better when the humans came to pet me, but I wasn’t ready to be with the other dogs. After a bit of time, I settled in and enjoyed the event, especially all of the human attention. It made me happy that people came just to see me and Fern, my Brookline sister and I showed them how happy I was by letting them pet me as long as they wanted. I was Mighty tired when I got home. In the evening after a long snooze, I enjoyed cuddle time, as I do each night. I love to give Foster Mom lots of kisses and affection before I settle in.Chocolate Labrador Retriever

I continue to be a Mighty polite house guest. No accidents in the house. Foster Mom said I am Mighty stealthy.  I don’t do my business very often, but when I do, I need my privacy. I started to take an interest in a toy too. Others may be in my future.

I have started to feel comfortable in my new home. I now guard the yard and warn others of any potential dangers. I am going to be a Mighty good watch dog with my Mighty intimidating bark!

At one point when I was scouting the yard, Foster Mom saw me get to the wrong side of the fence. Even though the spokes of the fence are very close together, I found a part at the end where they are a tiny bit further apart, but not nearly wide enough for me. I was Mighty determined to get to the other side.  I pushed my way through the aluminum spokes bending them as I went. I don’t know why Foster Mom was concerned because I came right back when she called me.  Now Foster Mom has set up a contraption to keep me away.

This week, I went to have surgery so I couldn’t have more puppies.  When I arrived, the vet did a test and determined I am at the end of my heat cycle. This means I have to wait a bit longer before surgery and that I will be available for adoption very soon.

I will be a Mighty fine addition to a home that wants a Mighty good girl, who is loving, smart and very well behaved. More soon….

Mighty has made a lot of progress since leaving the farm just five days ago. Her tail is no longer stuck behind her legs. She is starting to be quite a happy girl, wagging  her tail more and more each day.  In fact, she was so happy to see me when I came home today, she started jumping on me.  Something to work on, but a positive change nonetheless.

Ms. Mighty has been an exemplary house guest. She has had no accidents, listens well, and has not been destructive. Mighty eats her food slowly and takes treats very nicely. She sleeps through the night and doesn’t make a peep or stir until I get up.  Even then, she sits very nicely until she gets the word to start moving. (She has been sleeping in a crate while her housetraining is assessed.)

Speaking of house training, like many farm dogs, Mighty is having trouble adjusting to doing her business in a strange environment. Not much action on her multiple daily walks. She must be doing her business when she explores the garden and is completely out of sight.

In the last couple of days, she is settling into a routine as a pet. She is pretty mellow and mostly wants to lay around, but enjoys following me around, going on walks, and especially giving kisses and getting pets. Mighty is very affectionate and generous with kisses. She has shown only delight when meeting new people, but appears uninterested in other dogs.

Thanks to Mighty, I noticed that squirrels are back to work collecting food for winter.  During the first encounter, Mighty spotted a squirrel that must have been 25 yards away. Although she is excellent on the leash, the squirrel was too tempting and she tried to bolt. Mighty was so strong she pulled her foster sister with her. This happened a second time, so  I purchased a new leash coupler with shock absorption. She may reserve her energy for small rodents because she drags by the end of our walks. Mighty may be a bit deconditioned, but her regular walking routine should fix this.

Mighty is starting to take an interest in her foster sister. They sometimes lay next to each other, and have started playing on occasion.Chocolate Labrador Retriever

She plays nicely. Even though she mostly appears indifferent, I suspect she likes the company.

Mighty is a very sweet, lovable and gentle creature. She will surely make her new family very happy and make sure they know how loved and appreciated they are.

Mighty here. I’m checking in from my new foster home. It’s been quite a day. I’ve been scared, but I am doing very well. I can’t believe I woke up on the farm and now I am living in a home with a new foster mom and sister!  In between, I rode in 2 different vehicles. It was scary, but I was a very good girl.  I met all kinds of new people. It was scary, but I was a very good girl.

Foster mom brought me to a store and gave me a bath. It was scary, but you know… I WAS A VERY GOOD GIRL!Chocolate Labrador Retriever

I’m not sure what I think of my new foster sister yet, but I don’t mind her. It’s been a big day and I will get to know her another time.

After sniffing around the yard in my new home, I got a nap, which really helped. FM kept telling me that I am a good girl and she is proud of me. After my snooze, I told foster mom she is a good girl by offering her kisses and asking for pets.

We explored the house and I got to see myself in the mirror. I will go back and look again because it was weird and I need time to figure out what to do with it.  I did stairs like a champ and ate my whole dinner, which FM gave me inside a crate. Of course, I dd. Drums please, because I AM A VERY GOOD GIRL!

I am tired now and think it’s time for sleep. Nighy from Mighty!

Chocolate Labrador Retriever

Mighty is a sociable and friendly 4.5yo purebred Labrador. Mighty has spent her whole life on a farm producing a total of 5 litters of puppies for her owners and now she is ready to retire from the puppy making business. Her last litter was in April.

Mighty has free roam on the farm during the day and socializes with the owner and their children and is good with all ages. She has an easy going personality and is good with other dogs, but has not met any cats. She sleeps in a shed at night, and has never lived in a home so she will need some house training.

Though Mighty has a big name, she is more petite in size and weighs about 65lbs and walks well on leash.Chocolate Labrador Retriever
