Black Labrador Retreiver MixMeet Olive!  Due to an unforeseeable change in Olive’s owners life and by no fault of her own, Olive found herself homeless and had to be surrendered to Brookline.  She is now safe under Brookline’s care.  Please read Olive’s blog from the bottom up to learn more about this sweet girl.

Olive has been great on leash now that she has been taking walks with fellow foster, Badger.  She has had less of her moments of stopping and not wanting to follow.  She loves sniffing and exploring.  Olive is doing better passing other dogs, since she has had more time playing and walking with her friend Badger.  She is much better while passing if the other dogs are quiet, laid back and on the submissive side.

Olive sometimes needs a little encouragement to get in the car, but once in, she is very well behaved.  She’s learning that car rides could lead to some fun like hitting the trails with Badger!Silver Labrador Retriever Silver Labrador Retriever Silver Labrador RetrieverOlive’s recall is improving slowly, through us of very high value treats.  She is somewhat picky when it comes to treats, especially if she is busy.  She is very affecionate with people, and loves getting petted and cuddled.

Olive got to go on a sniffari today!  She was a little bit nervous getting in the car, but was very good for the short drive to the trail.  She had a great time sniffing everything and then was much more relaxed for the drive back.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix

I took Olive on a walk down a backstreet today.  She got tired on the way back and wanted to lay down in the shade for a few minutes.  She has a tendency to plant her feet when she doesn’t want to go somewhere, such as back to her kennel.  She is not difficult to get moving again though.Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador Mix Black Labrador MixOne thing we did discover is that she is not a fan of UPS trucks or some other dogs on her walks, and does bark at them.  We are practicing walking back and forth until she was calm but it will be something to work on.Black Labrador Mix

What we know about Olive so far…

Olive is super, super sweet, and very gentle with people.Black Labrador Retreiver MixShe walks beautifully on leash and takes treats very delicately.

Black Labrador Retreiver MixShe loves to explore and sniff, and had a great time playing with toys, often entertaining herself by tossing it in the air to then chase.Black Labrador Retreiver MixI have walked her past some other dogs, and although she was curious, she did not react to them at all.  We will continue to do more dog testing before moving on to dog introductions.Black Labrador Retreiver MixShe has not had great recall so far, but I’m not terribly surprised since there are so many new smells and distractions.  We will continue to work on that too.Black Labrador Retreiver MixOlive does love to jump up and hug you and try to kiss you.  She is gentle about it and it’s only when she first sees you.

Stay tuned for more Olive updates!
