Otis #2 Chocolate Labrador Retriever Male 1.5 Years Old ID#2953

chocolate labrador retriever

Just like the song says, “…all you gotta do is try a little tenderness” – which is what Otis is receiving in Brookline’s care to build his confidence. 20 month old Chocolate Otis is as sweet as he is handsome, playful and smart. He came to Brookline as an owner surrender. Otis loves: playing with other dogs, frolicking in snow, running, and Milk Bones. He’s a quick learner and curious about everything (countertops, shoes, new smells) and is eager to show off his obedience skills. He’s an excellent passenger for car rides (he snoozes) and he takes treats very gently. He’s also particularly fond of cheese.

chocolate labrador retrieverOtis loves everyone he meets and delights in playing with his furry friends!chocolate labrador retriever chocolate labrador retriever chocolate labrador retrieverHe has a lot of energy (he LOVES to RUN) and is very busy and curious, but he does settle down and likes to cuddle on the couch.chocolate labrador retriever chocolate labrador retrieverOtis loves attention, loves to play with toys and with a tug, and going for walks. Otis loves water – he’ll be happy to jump in a kiddie pool anytime! He also loves baths and actually fell asleep one time in the bathtub.
chocolate labrador retrieverchocolate labrador retrieverOtis loves all people and is affectionate, loving cuddles and back scratches. Once he bonds with a person, he is very attentive to them, checking in frequently. When he’s by himself, Otis looks for things to entertain himself and may get into mischief. His curiosity causes him to explore everything in his environment, so he often is found with random things in his mouth. He is usually more interested in carrying them than chewing on them, but he does need to be watched. He will trade items for treats (which he takes gently). With the right situation and enough exercise and mental stimulation, he can be left alone (e.g. gated) in a safe area.
chocolate labrador retrieverOtis has lots of love to give and will be a loyal family member. He is still working on his manners and when he gets excited may jump up on people and sometimes “mouth” them. He has learned not to do it to the trainer, but still does it to others when excited. He is doing well with his leash walking, and is generally walked on a Gentle Leader, though can be walked on a flat collar too.

Otis needs someone who will set consistent expectations and reinforce them appropriately. He will need patience as he learns his new environment and learns to trust his new people and learn that he’s a beloved family member.

chocolate labrador retrieverOtis has been having a good time at Kamp.  He became fast friends with fellow fosters, Tuuk and Marley.  All three have been spending time out in the yard, playing chase and tug.chocolate labrador retriever black labrador retriever black labrador retriever chocolate labrador retriever

Otis has been doing very well at Kamp!  His trainer says that Otis is always very attentive and respectful to her.  He has been going to her home every couple of days and they have been spending a couple hours each time working on his house manners.  He is very inquisitive and likes to check out all sorts of random things and pick them up and carry them around.  He doesn’t chew on them, and you can get the items back pretty easily.

chocolate labrador retrieverOtis’ leash skills have improved dramatically.  He is usually walked on a gentle leader, but now he can be walked on his regular flat collar too!  Otis is still working on his jumping, but it is much less now and only when he is excited.chocolate labrador retrieverOtis loves people and would enjoy an active family with older children or an active couple/single person, or another young playful dog, or regular time at a doggie daycare or dog park.  He has a lot of energy and is very busy and curious, but does settle down and like to cuddle on the couch.  Otis isn’t picky about his doggie playmates.  He plays with all ages and sizes of dogs and he’s great with everyone.  He even doesn’t mind puppy antics.chocolate labrador retriever

Otis loves toys and playing tug, and is a superstar in the bath after a good play day in the muddy, spring yard!chocolate labrador retriever

Otis is continuing to work on his good manners at Kamp.  He still likes to jump up and explore the counter tops and thinks everything is a toy put out especially for him but he is doing much better walking on his leash, and working really hard on not jumping.chocolate labrador retrieverOtis is very dog friendly.  Over the last week, he met new Brookline arrival, Biscuit, and a fun, sweet German Shepard named Ember.  He loved chasing them around and exploring a new yard with Biscuit.

Otis is doing very well at Kamp.  His trainer reports that he loves playing with other dogs, and loves people.

Otis is working on his leash skills, and jumping up when he’s excited or wants to play.  He’s been doing better with his crate training!  They are practicing calm sitting, and he’s getting plenty of rewards for a good job done.

Otis should be heading to his foster home in no time!  Keep up the hard work Otis!

Hello Everyone!  Otis here.  I’ve been hanging out here at Canine Kamp.  They said I’m a “sweetie” and settling in well.  chocolate labrador retrieverThis place is great.  So many places to sniff, and dogs and people to meet.  I really like to play with all the new dogs and people that I’m meeting.chocolate labrador retriever chocolate labrador retriever chocolate labrador retrieverThe other day it snowed and I got to play with my new friend in the yard.  He was showing me all around the yard and we had a great game of chase too!  He almost got away because he blended in with the snow!
