Rocky #15 Yellow Labrador Retriever Male 6-7 Years Old

July 17, 2019

Rocky continues to win hearts wherever he goes.  He just loves everyone he meets, and enjoys walks and playtime in the yard.

He is a determined sniffer, so needs to continue to work on his leash skills.  He is adjusting nicely to the Gentle Leader, which definitely gives more control.  However, he is able to walk nicely on a flat collar with consistent reinforcement of good leash walking skills.

Rocky has now had the opportunity to walk with several dogs and he is doing great!  He is curious, wants to go give them a sniff, then walks along nicely beside them.  He is a bit selective about which dogs he likes, but then aren’t many dogs?

Evidently he is not fond of big noisy things like cars and lawnmowers.  He needs to work on learning to take those big scary machines in stride. For that reason, he would probably do better in a more rural setting.

He is definitely a dog who needs to know who is boss, and needs consistent expectations.  However, the reward is a dog who will greet you with tail wags and kisses and love you unconditionally.

yellow Labrador RetrieverRocky is getting more comfortable and seems very happy.  He gets to go out and play several times a day and loves playing ball, although he doesn’t always want to give it back easily.  He also loves exploring and sniffing everything.

He is fairly good on leash, only pulling at times, but he settles down quickly and walks nicely. He is not reactive to dogs when passing them on leash, but will sometimes growl at dogs on the other side of the fence even while wagging his tail.  Though he likes some dogs, he would probably do best being the “king pin” – after all, who doesn’t want to be the center of attention?

He is very sweet and affectionate with everyone he meets.  He is truly Rocky, the Rock Star!

Mr. Rocky landed at his new “digs” (Canine Kamp) on Saturday and is already a rock star!  He has been a perfect gentleman with every person he has met and is loving checking out all of those wonderful smells in the fenced yards. It turns out that he loves water and tennis balls – a true Lab!

Everyone there describes him as a sweetheart, and he is already capturing hearts!

Meet Rocky!  Rocky is though to be around 6 or 7 years old.  He is neutered, microchipped, and UTD on shots. Rocky was picked up by animal control in April.  He was emaciated, missing hair, and had a horrible ear infections.  He has been gaining weight, and his ears and coat are clearing up nicely.  He is a very friendly boy that enjoys belly rubs, toys, and food.  He is currently in foster care with 4 other dogs.  They are still learning about each other, but he is very curious and his tail is always wagging.  When Rocky was picked up he was found with a small dog.  He was very curious about the small dogs at the vet as well.  He is unknown with cats and kids.

His foster home is quickly learning that if he is in a calm environment he is a very chill lab, content to play with a toy or lay beside you to be pet. When around all of the resident dogs he seems stressed and will counter surf and mark outside. (Keep in mind he was just neutered). He is currently spending his day in a bedroom and he has not been destructive.  He will not tolerate a crate but luckily he doesn’t need one.

Please stay tuned as we learn more about this boy.
