Saquon Black Labrador Retriever Mix Male 4 Months Old ID #3576

March 8, 2025Black Labrador Mix

Saquon (who we’ve been lovingly calling Shayson (if you know, you know) is still thriving in our home. We’ve pretty much solidified a routine with a few fun surprise visits from my family. He loves having new friends to play with. He found his voice a bit when my resident dog barks at dogs on the TV, he sometimes will join in. He has no idea what he’s barking about, but he doesn’t want to be left out. It’s funny to see him creep closer and closer to her to try and cuddle, but she sleeps with one eye open, ready to play if he decides it’s time to play. He is very snuggly. My boyfriend and I have come to the conclusion that he reminds us of a marionette puppet where he will be content being plopped anywhere.

He was a calm passenger princess on the way to get his microchip inserted. We were not shocked by this; he just loves looking out the window but will happily sit in your lap. He was happy to watch the world go by, but upon reaching his destination, he was not thrilled to get stuck with a needle. But he’s a little trooper and made it out okay. Now he is microchipped and ready to go to his new home very soon. Keep your eyes peeled! He will become available to adopt shortly!

I am shocked at how easily he goes into the crate at night, considering how young he is. He sleeps completely through the night, and his foster parents are thrilled. He is the best coworker during the day and will play in the office behind me and then settle down and sleep on the dog bed for a majority of the day.Black Labrador Mix He is a fan of new toys and loved the Brookline welcome package.Black Labrador Mix As we know already, he is food motivated, so his favorite in the box were the little treats. Who knew food could taste so yummy? He is sharing his toys with our resident dog as they play together. I think he could do well in a home with another dog or even two, but at the same time, I believe he would make a great single dog, too. He would benefit from a household with a structured schedule and the ability to play with him to release his energy and then cuddle with him after he becomes tired. He loves to cuddle more than he loves to play.

Saquon has continued settling into his temporary home. Now that he has become more comfortable, his little personality is starting to shine through. He is a sweet, silly, curious little pup who LOVES to cuddle.

He spends his time split between exploring/playing with our resident dog, Lola, and cuddling up and watching TV with his foster parents. He continues to trend upwards with both the house training and the crate training. He’s proving to be good with other dogs and warms up to new people quickly. He spent most of the day playing with my future in-laws and Lola while the weather was nice.Black Labrador Mix

Saquon is going to make a great family member with so much love to give.

Saquon continues to be a laid-back puppy. I find that you can pick him up and plop him anywhere, and wherever you put him, he just will lie right down.Black Labrador Mix He’s learning to stand by the back door when he wants to go outside to use the restroom. Black Labrador MixI have officially switched him to a slow feeder because he is a vacuum with his food at mealtime. As chill as he is, he still loves to play. Toys with squeakers are starting to become his favorite. Black Labrador MixHe also will randomly get the zoomies and bounce around the entire house, but then he will settle quickly and nap to recover. Black Labrador MixHe’s been a really quiet dog, too. EXCEPT when he goes into the crate for bedtime. He’s okay after a handful of shushing and will settle down, but it was shocking to hear since he doesn’t make a peep otherwise. Even with my neighbor’s dogs barking at every human that walks by, his ears perk up, but he remains quiet.Black Labrador Mix I even have to quiet my resident dog (who is a grown up) when they start going nuts. He lets us know in the middle of the night when he wants to be let out and then goes back into the crate with no problem to finish his night’s sleep. Saquon is still settling into the house and routine, but he is thriving, and he will make a wonderful addition to his future family.

Black Labrador Mix

Saquon had a very calm welcome into our home. Black Labrador MixHe was the most peaceful puppy on the ride home just sitting in my arms and taking in the view of the ride home. He got home and was a curious boy exploring the entire house (of the rooms which he’s allowed in). He was thirsty and drank a bunch of water upon arrival and we were not quick enough to bring him outside on a few occasions on the first day, but I think he is starting to understand more and has had fewer accidents as time goes on. So far, we’ve had zero #2 in the house, so I’ll take that as a win. The first night in the crate was to be as expected as an adjustment for him. However, it actually was better than expected once he settled down. He slept from 10:30 pm-3:30 am when I woke him up to take him out (I always wake up to pee, so I thought it was a nice break for him to get out too). He went outside with me, peed & pooped, and then went back to bed with minimal whining after being put back in the crate. And then he didn’t get up again until my alarm at 5:30 am. I was impressed that there were no accidents in the crate at all. Fingers crossed that continues. He seems to be very food motivated and he might do well with a slow feeder. I fed him in the crate and it was almost gone by the time I closed the door. He’s enjoying all of the toys in the house and bounces around to each one and hasn’t settled on a favorite yet. He does not discriminate.Black Labrador Mix He’ll play for about 20 minutes and then pass out for an hour, wake up, go out, and do it all over again.

That’s the cycle we’ve been on since the morning. So far, he’s been a treat to have in the house and he will make someone very happy.
