Shai Yellow Labrador Retriever Female 2.5 Months Old ID#3523

March 22, 2025

Shai had her first vet visit yesterday.  She and her big sister, Abby, had appointments at the same time.  Shai cried up a storm when Abby left the exam room briefly.  She is going to need a big sister or brother to hang and play with when she is adopted.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe has grown to a whopping 25 pounds already, got a few vaccines and clean bill of health, for the most part.  The vet believes she will need surgery to correct her hooded vulva issue and should probably be performed at the time she is spayed.Yellow Labrador RetrieverHouse breaking is going well, she has not had an accident in a few days.  She now rings her bell at the back door when she wants to go out to potty, she picked that up really quick.  She is very playful and energetic.  Yellow Labrador RetrieverLoves to chase tennis balls just like her big sister.  Still adores her big sister and Abby is still very patient with her as she chews and tugs on her.  She is still a bit apprehensive to go in the car but once in she rides fines.  She is looking forward to seeing everyone at the Brookline Event at Mason Dixon Distillery on April 6th.

Shai received her gift box earlier this week, She LOVES her duck, she tries to share it with the cats who are none too pleased when she offers it to them, but it is darn cute!Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador Retriever

Shai is doing great.  Housebreaking is going well, still a few minor accidents but progressing nicely.  Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe has finally accepted being in her crate without too much objection.  Loves to play.  Absolutely adores Abby and is never far from her.  The feeling seems to be mutual as evidenced in a couple of the pics.    Yellow Labrador Retriever Yellow Labrador RetrieverWe think she will most likely be best in a home with another dog (with a lot patience). She is also a big shoe and slipper fan.  She will search the house to find shoes she can reach; she generally will bring the shoe to someone or want to play a game of chase with them.  On occasion we find her gnawing on them.  She is all puppy with the short attention span, loves toys but she moves on to another toy after about 30 seconds of play.  Yellow Labrador RetrieverWe have her first vet appointment next week.

She loves to cuddle and give puppy kisses.  She is settling in very well.  Potty training is going well we still have a few accidents, but they are right at the door.  Shai will sleep snuggled up to Abby and generally sleeps through the night until about 5:00 or 6:00 AM.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe still hasn’t convinced the male cat, Fred, that she just wants to play and he will growl and hiss at her.  Sometimes she barks back but most of the time she just goes off and finds another toy.  She has started to go into the office with Rob for part of the day, with her big sister Abby of course.  She is surprisingly calm at the office for as young as she is.Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe will chase a ball, when Abby lets her, and she bring it back most of the time. She loves to play and keeps Abby on her toes.Yellow Labrador RetrieverWe will keep everybody posted on her progress and post more pictures soon.

We picked up this cutie yesterday from Jon, who transported her from the farm. Yellow Labrador Retriever Thank you, Jon, for transporting her to us.  We met up in the York Area.  Shai is the sweetest little thing.  Yellow Labrador RetrieverShe and her Big sister, Abby, hit it off pretty quickly.  Abby was really good about sharing her toy and even her beloved tennis balls.Yellow Labrador Retriever They had several games of tug-o-war which both pups seemed to enjoy tremendously.  Shai follows Abby around all the time.  She also loves to play ball and chase Abby when she is fetching.  Abby is very tolerant, even when Shai tries to chew on her face and ears. Yellow Labrador RetrieverWe had a couple of potty accidents but all in all a very good first day.  We have taken tons of photos, and we will continue to share as we document Shai’s adventures.
