Summer #3 Chocolate Labrador Retriever Female 5 Years Old ID #3764
Meet Summer, a beautiful 5-year-old purebred Chocolate Lab (also known around here as a double chocolate chunk muffin ). This sweet girl started her life as a breeder Mama and was rescued about a year ago by her current owner, who gave her the love and stability she had likely never known before. Unfortunately, her owner made the difficult decision to surrender her due to health circumstances that made it impossible to keep her.

Hi everybody! It’s me, Summer, checking in from my new foster home. I’ve been here about a week now, and my foster family says they’ve already learned a lot about me, so I wanted to give you an update.
Number one — I am a true people dog.
I love to be with my people wherever they are. Big people, little people… doesn’t matter. If you’re moving, I’m moving. If you sit down, I sit down. I just like being close to my humans and knowing what everyone is doing.
In my former home, I lived with two small boys, so I already know how to be around little ones. I’m very gentle, and I understand that when kids are up walking around, sometimes I need to give them their space. My foster family says I have very nice manners when it comes to being around children.
Number two — don’t let my size fool you… I love my walks!
When I first got here, FM and FD took me for two or three walks a day, about half a mile each time, and I thought that was pretty great.
But this week FM decided to up the ante, and now we go for two or three walks a day that are closer to a mile each! That’s right… this big girl has some stamina.
Sure, I’m a little tired when I get home, but don’t worry — there’s always a big bowl of cold water waiting for me, and after a good drink, I’m ready to relax and keep my people company again.
I also have very nice leash manners. When FM or FD grabs my leash and collar, I walk right to the door, sit pretty, and wait patiently for them to put it on before we head out for our walk.
Now… I will admit… sometimes I get a little overly excited when we’re outside. If I see bunnies, squirrels, or chipmunks, I might pull a little because I really want to go say hello. FM says we’re working on that, and I’m getting better every day.
Number three — speaking of little creatures… I’m really not a big fan of cats.
Here at my foster house, there are two of them. One I hardly ever see, but the other one, Gladys, comes and goes whenever she wants. FM says she’s the queen of this castle.
I’ll be honest… I do like to chase her when she runs through the house. I think it’s a game, but Gladys does not seem to agree. Because of that, my foster family thinks my next home probably shouldn’t have a cat living in it. I would do best in a house where I don’t have any feline roommates to keep track of.
Number four — we’re still figuring out how I feel about other dogs.
When I see other dogs out on walks, I don’t seem to mind at all. I get curious, my tail wags, and I definitely want to go say hello and check them out.
I have had the chance to meet a couple of female dogs though, and I wasn’t always thrilled about sharing the spotlight. FM says I might be a little competitive when it comes to the girls. Because of that, my foster family thinks I might do best as the only dog, or possibly with a calm male companion who doesn’t mind letting me think I’m in charge.
We’re still learning more about this, but one thing for sure… I like to be the star of the show.
Number five — I’m still learning how to play, but I do know what I like.
In my former life, I never really learned how to play with toys, but I’m starting to figure out what makes me happy. I really enjoy chewing on a good bone, a pig’s ear, or a Kong filled with peanut butter, and that keeps me busy for a while.
I also love roaming around in the backyard and sniffing everything I can find. If my next home has a fenced yard, that would be pretty great. But if not, that’s okay too, because like I said before… I really love my walks, and I’m happy as long as I get to spend time outside with my people.
Number six — I have very nice house manners.
I’m very reliable in the house and completely housebroken. I haven’t been left alone for more than about four to six hours so far, but FM and FD think I would do just fine if needed. Honestly, when no one is around, I’m a pretty big couch potato and happy to relax until my people come back.
I do have one little vice… I love to counter surf. If there’s something within reach, I might try to check it out, so my next home should make sure to keep food and goodies put up high where I can’t get to them. This helps me stay on my best behavior — and keep the girly figure I’ve been working so hard on.
And finally — don’t let the gray on my face fool you.
I may have a little sugar on my muzzle, but I’m still a young chick at heart with a lot of love to give to the right family. I have plenty of energy for walks, lots of loyalty for my people, and I’m ready to spend my next chapter being someone’s very best girl. ❤️🐾

Summer has clearly been loved her whole life, and it shows in her gentle personality and easygoing nature. She is friendly, affectionate, and happiest when she’s near her people. Whether she’s going for a walk, exploring the backyard, or just lounging nearby, Summer is the kind of dog who simply enjoys being part of the family.
She has settled into foster care nicely and has already proven herself to be a wonderful companion. She loves attention, appreciates a comfy place to rest, and never says no to an adventure — especially if it involves fresh air and new smells.
At 5 years old, Summer is past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of life, love, and tail wags left to give. She would do great in a home looking for a loyal, steady, and affectionate dog who just wants to be your shadow and best friend.
We know her perfect family is out there, and we can’t wait to see this sweet chocolate girl get the happy ending she deserves.
Stay tuned for more updates on Summer’s foster journey.
