So this past weekend Tukker had some out and about time.

We went to tractor supply for a PetVet event so he could be tested for heartworms. He was great with the medical staff, letting them get a blood sample to be tested. We did run into a number of people and other dogs. We’re working on pulling when he sees another dog, as he wants to meet all the dogs.

After that we stopped at a motorcycle dealership just to walk around and socialize. No one really came up to us, but Tukker wished they would have. He was very good and walked on leash like the good boy that he is. To get to the second floor we either had to go up an escalator or elevator. Tukker walked right in the elevator with no hesitation, and waited patiently both going up and down.

At home, he just continues to act like he’s always been here. Will seek attention when he wants, but is also perfectly content lounging on the couch or on the bed in our guest room.

He is definitely vocal, as the video shows. Not loud, but just like to talk. He will do this when he wants to go for a walk, or needs to go potty.

We continue to see his enjoyment playing with toys and bones. He tries to engage with our resident dogs, but they are all small and geriatric, so we have re-direct from that because of the size difference. He really enjoys his outdoor time. We currently have snow on the ground and he loves to romp around in it. When we go for walks in the neighborhood, he prefers to walk in the snow instead of the pavement, actually he prefers the side of the road over pavement even when there is no snow.

He continues to be left at home alone for periods of time. There have been no issues with destructive behaviors or potty accidents in the house.

The morning of 12-24 we picked up Tukker from Bedminster Canine Kamp.

Linda met us at the door and told us Tukker was outside going potty. She told us he had been a good boy the whole time he was there. He had spent a couple days there after being picked up by another volunteer.

Tukker came in from going potty and was excited to meet Sandi and I. Actually he was excited to spend time with everyone there. We talked a little more with Linda, said our goodbyes and headed outside. Took him for a walk before getting in the car, but it was an adventure of smells and sights.

Tukker got in the car like a champ and quickly settled. Laid down most of the way home. Would stick his head between the seats for some attention, and if he didn’t think it was enough after you’d stop he would tap you with his paw so you could continue. Got him home and he explored the fenced in back yard and did his business. Brought him in and introduced him to our resident pack, which went well. The other blonde in the house, Mouse, was not amused though, she would much rather be an only dog. You can see the look on her face in a couple of the pictures.

Tukker went for a walk through the neighborhood with Sandi, and is pretty good on a leash. Does pull a little, but that may just be the excitement of new surroundings, sights and smells. Does stairs with no issue, is allowed to and does get on the furniture.

He sleeps in bed with our 16 yo son most nights.

Christmas morning he settled quietly while opening of Christmas presents was taking place.

Went on another walk with Sandi, and settled on the couch in our sunroom by the wood stove.

He got to experience a Holiday get together between Christmas and New Years, and was quite the hit with everyone in attendance. He went about from person to person getting a little bit of attention from anyone.

He knows some commands, sit, down, and shake. He can definitely stand to lose some weight, we don’t think it’s an over eating issue, but a lack of exercise availability with his former family. He does alert when we have deer in the back yard, but when outside, doesn’t seem terribly interested in them.

He alerts when he needs something by either putting his paw on you or talking to you. Will do little grunts groans and barks.

He absolutely loves to go for walks, we try to take him at least once a day. He is quite content hanging out with his people, or finding a quiet spot to just hang by himself. We have found him lounging in the bed in our guest room more than once.

For a nine year old dog he is still pretty active and likes his toys. Will grab his rope toy and play tug with anyone who’s interested. Will chew on and play with bones we have in the house.

He is house trained and has had no accidents on the house.

Make sure you follow Tukker’s blog for more updates while we foster him. Shouldn’t be long before he’ll be available for adoption.
