Westy and Barton Black Labrador Retriever Males 6 Years Old
July 23, 2024
This handsome duo is seeking a new home together. Westy is a 6 yr., 2 mos. old and Barton is a 6 yr., 10 mos. old Pure-Bred, intact, Black Lab. They are being surrendered because their owner became ill and is unable to return home to care for them. Barton and Westy are two BIG, sweet boys who are gentle and love attention. Barton is 87# and Westy is 110#, they are UTD on shots and have no known medical conditions. They are currently being kenneled until a new home can be found for them.
Both dogs are good with other dogs. They had routine visits to the dog park with their owner and met all kinds of dogs and people without incident. They also enjoyed playtime with each other in their large, fenced yard. They have been exposed to their owner’s Grandkids 7 – 10 years old and were great with them.
Barton loves tennis balls, squeaky toys and tug games. Westy was more reserved and didn’t initiate play during the evaluation. It may have been the heat or the fact that his brother wasn’t there. The family feels that Westy looks to Barton for reassurance.
Barton and Westy are not crated and are reliable left with run of the house providing the trashcans are covered. They were not allowed on the furniture but Westy would sneak up on the loveseat. He responded immediately when told to get down. They know sit and demonstrated it for us. The family said they also know wait, down and paw but will need practice with those. Both boys allowed us to check their ears and teeth and to take food and toys away from them without concern. The dogs haven’t had much leash experience and both dogs pull moderately on leash but did respond to corrections when we walked them.
The boys do not seem to have any fear issues with people, storms or fireworks. Although the family has said that Westy will whine with sirens.
Both boys are good in the car. The boys both alert bark and will run to the gate with company arriving. They follow commands to wait while the visitor enters the gate.
The boys are up to date on their vaccinations. Since they are still intact, their adoption will include a Sterilization Contract.
