Wilma Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees Mix Female 4.5 Years Old ID#1049

Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixWilma is a 4 year old, 90lb Labrador/Great Pyrenees mix.  She was surrendered by her previous owners as she was not getting along with a new puppy in the house. She is as sweet and brave as they come. Please read her blog from the bottom up to learn more about her.

Wilma loved having two walks during the snow day, and cuddling in between.Black Labrador/Pyrenees Mix Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixIn the last few days, Wilma’s calm demeanor is interrupted for just 30 seconds with bursts of pure joy. Sometimes she gets excited about a toy, and today it was in the snow, with a toy.

Wilma likes balls but doesn’t totally understand fetch. She runs after balls but only retrieves about 1/3 of the time, so we both get exercise.

Wilma is up for adoption!

Wilma is brave and adaptable! Realizing that men might spook Wilma, we invited another man into the house!  There is never aggression, just timid-ness and spooked by sudden movements. It took about 20 minutes for her to warm up to him (plus occasional treats), and then they were friends. After 30 minutes, he sat on the floor and her head was in his lap- belly rubs and all. This seemed like a faster progression than a previous male friend. I imagine this timidness won’t be long lasting.

This morning we went to Lowe’s for our morning walk. Wilma was so well behaved. Some loud sounds made her jump, but she had great leash manners, and did well in the store. Black Labrador/Pyrenees Mix Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixWe walked by many men, but appreciated that they minded their business. It was good exposure therapy to co exist in the same space of a potential threat. Wilma was not bothered by the Christmas blow up decorations at all. She is more and more comfortable riding in the car, getting in with no hesitation now.

Wilma continues to be a curious, yet hesitant girl. Her confidence has grown, and she is learning quickly!

She has been slow to warm up to strangers, especially men. However, she is much more friendly with each interaction with a new person, especially during repeat meetings. Training treats and patience have helped her warm up to strangers, especially men.

Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixShe is eager to walk twice a day, typically in the city. She especially liked a more natural walk on a trail in county park. She has a growing interest in squirrels, and can lunge at initial excitement. She typically only uses the bathroom in the yard, on a lead line. Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixSaturday morning, she did quite a bit of alert barking – but in retrospect, she might have just wanted to join the fun outside!

Today, we met a docile puppy. The dogs were curious about each other, tail wags and sniffs, but ultimately Wilma cared more about the squirrels on the walk than the puppy.

Wilma crate trained very easily, and occasionally will rest in her crate. She is a slight flight risk, so I always keep hands on her collar during lead to leash transitions, and typically crate (or hold her collar) her if opening the door for guests.

Wilma went to the vet this week to get up to date on her shots. She was a little overstimulated but overall did great. She weighs 86 pounds, down from approximately 90 pounds. She still is adjusting to her new location and eating just about a cup per day.Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixWords she knows: couch, up, walk, outside, crate, peepees (potty word). Words we are working on: stay, come.Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixShe continues to love attention, cuddling and belly rubs.

Wilma enjoyed the “snow day” today. We went on a walk with all sorts of stimuli – trash trucks and umbrellas, oh my! She was skeptical but it didn’t affect our successful, long walk (almost a mile!).

This is Wilma’s first day that I am working from home. She is learning independence, and self amusement in different rooms, or snoozing in my office during my meetings.Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixWilma is challenging herself regularly, trying activities she was once scared of (just 3 days ago) – with no external encouragement or bribes. Wilma does growl when she doesn’t understand a noise or is scared of a person. But if she has the chance to investigate or observe the offender, it is no longer an issue.

Wilma impresses me with her bravery and ability to learn. Wilma’s favorite activities are cuddling, being pet and going for walks.Black Labrador/Pyrenees Mix

After Wilma’s bath earlier in the day yesterday, we had the easiest time trimming her nails – a full pampered spa day for a well deserving dog.Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixShe can’t get enough cuddles and pets, especially when waking up in the morning. She soaks in attention, and asks for more. She loves the couch where she can relax. Black Labrador/Pyrenees Mix Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixWilma did great on both of her walks today. She is already more confident walking – even on busier roads. She doesn’t mind the cold, but we totally forget to take outdoor pictures. She did great in the crate while I was at work.

Wilma doesn’t like to be caught off guard, but with proper warning she warms right up to new people. Her introductions are getting exponentially more trusting.

She is filled with love (and a desire to know she is loved).Black Labrador/Pyrenees Mix

Wilma is the sweetest, most brave girl. When she arrived into our foster care, she was very nervous, but she has proven to be so adaptable and loving in the first 24 hours.

Wilma slept great in bed, and wanted cuddles in the morning. She loves the couch, and affection. She seems very scared of the bathroom, so we went to a pet wash station today. She did not enjoy the bath, so it was very helpful to be at a professional wash set-up. She showed no signs of aggression despite not feeling comfortable. When we got home, she got her first zoomies – happy to be clean! She was hesitant to get in the car, but we made a few stops, and her willingness to get into the car is improving.

She loves her short walks, we will build up walking distances slowly. She has pretty good leash manners, and when we have seen dogs from a distance she has had no reaction. She is a little spooked by city sounds, inside the house and out. However, with a little reassurance they are not causing problems. So far, she is cautious but calm, and adapting very well.Maybe a chef in her past life, Wilma is very curious about cooking – but has not begged for food as I’ve been eating.

She is on great behavior, so far, no accidents, inappropriate chewing, etc. Looking forward to working with her for the next few weeks!

Tis the season…

Wilma enjoyed a peaceful fall afternoon, exploring the yard and taking in every scent the season has to offer. This is Wilma in her happy place — calm, curious, and completely at one with nature – leaf included.Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixIt only takes one look to fall in love with Wilma.  Those soft, soulful eyes that make you wonder if you might be the one she’s been waiting for.Black Labrador/Pyrenees Mix

Anyone up for a walk?
Wilma sure is. The moment she hears the jingle of a leash, her tail starts to wag and she’s ready to head out the door. After a long day patiently waiting for her family to return from work and school, nothing makes her happier than a little fresh air and the chance to stretch her legs.Black Labrador MixWhile she isn’t always fond of meeting other dogs up close, Wilma handled her walk like a pro—calm, focused, and unbothered even when neighborhood dogs glanced her way. As the saying goes, a good walk clears the mind, and that could not be more true for Wilma. She loves exploring the world at a gentle pace and would thrive with a family who enjoys getting out for daily strolls just as much as she does.

It’s been a little while, so we’d love to re‑introduce you to Wilma — our sweet, gentle, empathy‑filled Labrador Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix who is still patiently waiting for the family she can call her own. Over the past six months, Wilma has come close to finding her match, but her forever home hasn’t quite appeared yet. Through it all, she remains the same affectionate, people‑loving companion who melts into anyone willing to offer a kind touch and a warm spot beside them.Labrador/Pyrenees MixAs the weather turns colder, Wilma has been showing off one of her very best qualities: her love for snuggling in with her family. After a long week, she happily rotates from person to person, offering gentle nudges, leaning in for affection, and settling in for a cozy evening. Her current family jokes that all you have to do is choose your seat, give her a couple of soft pets, and she’s yours for the night — free cuddles included!Labrador/Pyrenees Mix Labrador/Pyrenees MixWilma will be sharing weekly updates, photos, and videos so everyone can see the wonderful dog she truly is. Maybe, just maybe, someone following along will realize that Wilma is the missing piece to their family. Stay tuned for more of her sweetness each week.

Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees MixWilma has lived with her owners since she was a puppy.  She is affectionate and playful with the kids who are now 9 and 11 yo.  She is reported to do well with men, women and children and strangers of all ages.  Black Labrador/Pyrenees MixShe has been around and has done well with children ranging in age from infants to 11yo. She is reported to be very empathetic of feelings and senses others emotions and will nudge and offer her cuddles when someone is feeling down.Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees Mix Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees MixWilma loves to run and play in the yard but as a known escape artist needs supervision while in a fenced yard.  As Wilma is not currently regularly walked, she will need some leash training.  Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees Mix Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees MixOnce inside, she is calm and relaxed. Like most dogs, she is opportunistic when it comes to unattended food, or trash.  Wilma knows “sit” and “down” especially if there are treats involved.

We are looking for someone who has Pyrennes or reactivity experience who will work on her training as she does display some dog to dog reactivity in her current home and out on walks.  Think of her as your own snuggly security system with a big bark, big paws but with an even bigger heart. Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees MixWilma is a loyal, confident and cuddly companion that loves to be loved on, all she needs is consistent guidance, structure, and unwavering commitment. Wilma might be the girl for you even if your name isn’t Fred!Black Labrador/Great Pyrenees Mix
